Vivint Reviews

Online Vivint reviews don’t always paint a pretty picture…but, the management team at Vivint Security is aware of the issues and taking the necessary measures to increase transparency, improve Vivint customer service and enhance the overall experience of Vivint Home Security owners.

If you own a Vivint Alarm, we encourage you to share your experience in our section for Vivint Security Reviews.

Vivint Security introduces new business model

In recent months, Vivint has elected to change the way that they structure their offers. Their new Flex Pay business model enables the customer to purchase the equipment outright and pay for monitoring on a month to month basis.  To make the equipment package more accessible to the majority of consumers, they provide 42-60 month financing on the Vivint Security equipment.

Is a Vivint Security System worth the price? With so many negative online Vivint Reviews one might conclude that customers were often misled about the contract terms associated with their Vivint Alarm System.  To be certain, the Vivint Customer Service team fields thousands of complaints about such concerns…most of which would be unnecessary if their customers were as diligent as you are in researching the company and making sure that they had a full understanding of the terms of the agreement before entering  42-60 month contract.

To be fair, Vivint Security Reviews are  much more common from those who are disgruntled , than those who are satisfied with their services.

Vivint Home Security

In response to negative online Vivint Security reviews, Vivint executive management has made great strides in recent years by implementing better customer communication standards and internal oversight.

Consequently, Vivint has dramaticaly improved their BBB rating to an A- in the past year (previously C+). They are committed to providing a superior customer experience and have recently restructured their plans to enhance transparency and better meet the needs of home security customers. (outlined below)

Nevertheless, customer complaints regarding door to door sales practices continue to raise doubts in the minds of prospective customers. If your neighborhood is being targeted by an army of enthusiastic, but perhaps overzealous “door knockers” we strongly encourage you to continue your due diligence in researching Vivint home security reviews.

To make sure you have 100% accurate information and a complete understanding of all the details….make sure that you call in and speak with Internal Corporate Vivint Personnel who are being recorded and supervised.

Visit their site and you will find that their products are top notch… but, they don’t come cheap.

Vivint professionally installs state of the art security and home automation equipment and charges a premium price for a premium product.  They are not the cheapest game in town-but, they offer a superior product for those who are willing to pay for for it.

Is creating a Vivint SmartHome in 2017 really they worth it?

Vivint Security – 2017 HSA Review

Reputation and Credibility

Founded in 1999 by Todd Pederson as  APX Security, the company  was rebranded in 2010, as Vivint.  While they were plagued by BBB and  customer service complaints during the APX years, since the rebrand and acquisition by The Goldstone Group,  much greater emphasis has been placed on quality assurance, customer service and complaint resolution.

They currently have an A- BBB Rating, which is indicative of their commitment to enhancing the customer experience.  Much progress has been made in the past year and they are currently listed as the 5th largest company on the SDM Top 100.

They won the  Stevie Award for the Customer Service Department of the Year in 2014.

Monitoring and Vivint Sky App

Vivint offers 2 monthly monitoring options.  Smart Protect for 39.99 and Smart Home for $49.99.

Equipment is purchased separately.  It can be paid in full-up front,  or financed on either a 42 or 60 month basis with 0% interest.

If paid in full…monitoring is available on a month to month basis.

If the equipment is financed, the system monitoring it coterminous.  Monitoring payments must continue for the duration of the equipment contract.

Their UL Listed, Five Diamond Certified monitoring station was awarded the CSAA Central Station of the Year Award in 2012. and provides 24/7 protection against intrusion, medical and personal safety, fire and environmental hazards.

Vivint uses only  fully  integrated cellular-based communications connections to the CMS. This eliminates the possibility of defeating the system by disabling the main unit or cutting a phone line or cable.  The interactive remote management capability is provided through the proprietary Vivint Sky App.

Two monitoring plan/equipment package  options are offered by Vivint:

  • Smart Protect– The security plan provides 24/7 coverage including intrusion, medical and personal safety, and environmental hazards. The cost is $549 up front  and $39.99/mo.  It includes:
    • 1 Vivint SkyControl Wireless Touchscreen Control Panel
    • 2 Door and Window Contacts
    • 24/7 Monitoring
    • FREE Interactive and Remote Monitoring-with Severe Weather Alerts
    • Professional Installation
    • Vivint Sky App

  • Smart Home  -This plan provides the same security coverage with the addition of  Home Automation and Energy Management capabilities.  For $549 up front and $49.99/mo. you will get:
    • 1 Vivint SkyControl Wireless Touchscreen Control Panel
    • 2 Door and Window Contacts

Pricing and Vivint Alarm System Equipment

The equipment is professionally installed by Vivint.

The security components are made by 2Gig, one of the fastest growing home security equipment manufacturers. It carries  a Lifetime Warranty (while it is monitored by Vivint) and requires no activation fee(in most cases).

The touchscreen Vivint SkyControl Panel is state of the art and is more feature rich and aesthetically pleasing than most panels. Add ons are competitive with other professionally installed systems and can be financed for either 42-60 months.

Vivint does  not offer broadband or landline monitoring, so all packages include cellular monitoring.  This eliminates the possibilities of a system being compromised by cutting cable or phone lines.

Cellular monitoring is  becoming increasingly popular to ensure secure communications in the event of an emergency.

Vivint Customer Service

Vivint has made great strides in the quality of the Vivint Customer Service team. In the past couple of years they have improved their BBB ranking from an anemic C+, to a very respectable A-.

While the current customer experience is generally positive, an A- BBB rating still leaves significant room for improvement in the customer resolution area when problems do arise.

Summary

Vivint offers a premium program with outstanding technology and home automation capabilities.  Their product packaging offerings are limited to the higher end of the pricing spectrum and the value conscious consumer would likely need to look elsewhere.

If they have truly put their customer service issues behind them and can keep their customers happy, Vivint is a great choice for one seeking a premium, professionally installed security and  home automation solution.

However, before making a decision, I would highly recommend checking out our Top Alarm Companies, and avoiding spur of the moment decisions based solely on the a sales presentation by their outside sales personnel.

Vivint and ADT are two of the best known, national companies that professionally install security and home automation systems.

Vivint has been installing 2 Gig Technolgies SkyControl  systems in recent years, since rebranding in 2010…and has differentiated themselves by focusing on the home automation capabilities of their systems.

While Vivint owns their own monitoring center, ADT owns and operates  6 UL Listed, 5 Diamond Certified monitoring stations staffed with the most highly trained professionals in the business. This enables them to route calls to another monitoring center in the event of a natural disaster.

While Vivint security systems are 100% cellular based only, ADT customers have the option of landline based security systems if they live in an areas which does not have cellular service.

Vivint Home Security vs. Frontpoint Security

In 8 years of operation, Frontpoint has carefully cultivated a reputation for providing world class customer service and has maintained an A+ BBB rating.

Since rebranding as Vivint Security, (previously APX Security) they have struggled with the many of the reputtion related issues of the previous company…which is likely a by  product of the ab aggressive door to door marketing approach.  Consequently Vivint has a C+ BBB rating, with about 3,500 complaints registered  in the last 3 years.

Where as Frontpoint reviews are mostly very positive, Vivint security reviews are predominantly negative with complaints of misrepresentation and predatory sales tactics.  They have faced government actions on multiple occasions in recent years.

However, Vivint alarm system use some of the most technologically advanced home security and automation equipment by 2Gig Technologies.  The standard Frontpoint alarm system is the GE Simon XT, but they now offer an upgraded Qolsys IQ panel which has similar premium features such as:

  • 7″ Touchscreen Display
  • Photo Slide Show, Video Camera Display, Current Weather Display
  • Integrated Image Capture/notification  when system is armed/disarmed
  • Severe Weather Alerts

While Vivint home security may offer a bit more equipment with their their home automation packages, they are significantly more expensive than Frontpoint when it comes to the monthly monitoring.  Frontpoint Security Monitoring prices range from $34.95 to $49.95,Vivint Security Reviews- vs Frontpoint - Frontpoint Security where as Vivint prices START at $52.99 and range all the way up to $69.99 a month.  In addition, Vivint monitoring contracts range from 42 to 60 months- compared to the 1 or 3 year agreements for Frontpoint monitoring.

In conclusion, while the technology is great… the aggressive sales approach, significantly higher costs and ongoing legal problems and issues with their reputation and credibility make it hard to justify selecting Vivint over any of our top alarm companies.

Vivint Security vs. Protect America

Where as Vivint struggles with their past, Protect America has a solid track record for providing exceptional value and quality customer service.  They have an A BBB rating as opposed to the C+ rating and government actions that still plague Vivint.

We like the fact that Vivint alarms are 100% cellular…but, there are times and places when cellular service may be unavailable or unreliable.  For this reason, Protect America offers cellular, broadband and landline monitoring services….starting at a very affordable $19.99.  That’s more than $30/mo less than Vivint’s least expensive monitoring plan.

Protect America systems don’t have all the bells and whistled of the Vivint security and home automation systems…but, they also don’t charge you an arm and a leg for upgrades…which can mount quickly with the Vivint security systems.  Protect America includes a ton of equipment with their premium monitoring packages, i.e.Vivint Home Security Systems vs Protect America

Platinum Package includes:

  • Simon XT Panel
  • 1 Motion Sensor
  • 14 Door Window Sensors

That’s $1400 in FREE equipment when you sign up for the Platinum Plan for just $42.95/mo.!

Is it required to secure an alarm permit to put in a Vivint security system?

As it happens, you won’t need a permit if your system is not going to be professionally monitored. Even so, for the reason that your Vivint home security system is going to be remotely monitored with the motive of employing emergency response providers, a lot of local towns must have a permit.

Generally, this calls for basic enrollment with a community law enforcement or sheriff’s agency along with some sort of reasonable payment. You will probably be also instructed to provide the company name, address and phone number of  Vivint Security , together with Vivint monitoring station, when the two vendors might be different.

In instances where permits are essential, nearly all towns will demand some sort of 1 time charge to enroll your home security system, even though some towns and cities ask for an annual renewal also. Regarding municipalities with higher crime combined with false alarm rates, failing to register may result in a refusal to respond to locations that don’t have any a security alarm permit…although this really is relatively rare. on the other hand, you might be subject to supplemental fines in the event law enforcement officials, fire or perhaps emergency medical services are sent to a home without a permit present in municipalities where one is required.

Regardless of whether a licence is actually purchased, virtually all towns will most likely assess fines for multiple false alarms. Most towns currently have guidelines set up wherein the initial One or two dispatches may not demand fines. While most Vivint Reviews don’t mention it, we would be remiss if we didn’t point out that, subsequent to that, fines ordinarily rise from $25-50 to your 1st enforceable offense…to $100-200 for subsequent recurring infractions.

Consequently, it is recommended to that Vivint home security system customers get a hold of their neighborhood police department, determine what permits are needed, acquire a full familiarity with the local guidelines and be certain that they take into account the compulsory ideas in order to prevent false alarms.

Ways to help you Prevent  Vivint Security False Alarms

To be clear, Vivint will not charge you for a false alarm. However, as stated previously, false alarms resulting from your Vivint Security ity system could become more than just  an inconvenience, They can create a substantial overload on your local authorities as well as emergency services resources and could quite possibly result in steep fees and penalties.

While most Vivint Reviews don’t disclose it, the vast majority of dispatches are caused by false alarms Consequently, a large percentage of towns assess fines to property owners when they go over a specific volume of false alarms.

To prevent this from this happening to you, here are some ideas for preventing a false alarm with your Vivint system.

• Make sure everyone knows the way to disarm the burglar alarm. Your security alarm has a master code, as well as a number of supplemental customer passcodes that can be programmed into the system. Make sure everyone knows their code along with learns how to disarm the security system.

• Be certain that everybody also knows the security password. If there is an alarm, the central monitoring station will definitely contact the home first and ask for the password to verify that the individual picking up is definitely a legitimate party. If they are unable to give  the proper security password, the authorities would be dispatched.

• Confirm that doors and windows are properly secured prior to setting the system. Any entrance that has been left a little bit ajar may very well be blown open while you are away and set off the alarm.

• Make certain that all detectors are attached correctly and in the most suitable positions. Motion detectors must be set up at a height of 6’ as well as away from fans, heaters, fireplace and air conditioning units.

• Take note of items which might possibly trigger a motion sensor. It’s not just pets ..AC units could cause fluttering draperies or plants…even helium balloons which can be moved within the your home by means of air currents. Confirm they are tied down away from the motions.

• In a perfect world, your pets really should be limited to zones away from motion detectors. Any time that is not viable, check into “pet friendly” or “pet immune” detectors which can screen out smaller pets below 40, 50 even 80 lbs. Another option option is make use of glass break sensors instead of motions.

• Be certain to switch out batteries when required. The majority of alarm systems utilize Li-Ion batteries which have at the very least a 2 year estimated life expectancy. Your Vivint Sky  App will in most cases inform you once the batteries are becoming low and continue to  alert you when there is nearly 1 month of useful life.

It is advisable to acquire spare batteries on hand and replace them promptly. Your system will also alert you in case there are any other failures of sensors. In the event that you get a system fault alert, do a status check and examine the sensor. Contact Vivint Security if it appears not operational.

Keep your Vivint Sky user manuals/codes/passwords in a reliable selected spot specifically where they can be consulted if required. Keep in mind, the easiest way to avert false alarms is by using your system on a consistent basis and be sure everyone is aware of how to operate the system.

Can Vivint Security lower my insurance premiums?

In most cases, yes, installing a Vivint Sky Alarm can help you save money on your homeowner’s insurance.

Many insurance companies provide significant reductions on property owner Insurance if the home is safeguarded by a monitored burglar alarm system. Although rate reductions vary from business to business- typical discounts range between 5-20%. Vivint reviews contend that they often have to request a certificate of installation to furnish to their agents. Be sure that the insurer is aware that the system will be monitored and whether things such as fire, flood and freeze protection has been included in your security system. Vivint ought to provide a certificate of installation outlining the sorts of services for which your system is monitored.

To discover precisely how budget friendly peace of mind might be, Check out Vivint…and then compare them to our Top Rated Security Systems.

Vivint seems to have a great understanding about Home security. I like the nice looking touch screen monitor and the smart technology they offer. However; I find them super expensive. I had a bad experience with a few of their marketing guys. They are some what pushy and overall over aggressive.
