Setting Up the ADC V722W Outdoor Security Camera
Adding a security camera to our Link Interactive Security System, in Alarm.com is fairly straightforward. To get started you will need to position the device within range of your 2.4GHz or 5GHz WiFi Router. Assuming that you already have access to the Alarm.com App, just navigate to the Video page and select “Add Video Device” at the bottom.
From there, the App just walks you through the process. Video tutorials are available for each of their security cameras.
The entire process is pretty straightforward…and takes less than 5 minutes.
The Alarm.com App
We found the Alarm.com App to be one of the most comprehensive, yet intuitive security and home automation apps on the market. For further details, see our Alarm.com Review.
Amazon reviews gave it a 4.1 out of 5-star rating. Many of the reviews cited picture quality and ease of installation and set-up. 59% of the reviews gave it 5 stars.
Mounting the ADC-V722W Camera
Mounting the camera does require that it be located within range of your router and close enough to an AC outlet to provide power. The camera includes a 10′ power cord and separates at a junction point in the middle to make it easy to feed through a relatively small hole in the wall, which can easily be covered by the camera mount – so there was no visible wiring. The camera is mounted at a height of a bit over 8′ so that it is not easily moved by most potential intruders but still has a line of sight that would enable facial recognition.
This position allowed an excellent view of the driveway, as well as the path most people would use to the front walkway. Alarm.com’s video analytics capabilities enable us to screen out activity on the street and only record clips that occur within the selected areas.

The 1080p High Definition camera provides a panoramic field of view. A motion sensor detects alerts and activates the recording and notification alerts. The light sensor which automatically switches to IR “night vision” in low light situations.
Alarm.com Camera Settings and Navigation
When it comes to security cameras, the hardware is only part of the equation. The software App that you use to set up and monitor the camera is just as, if not more, important. There are lots of 1080P HD outdoor wireless cameras out there…but, this one sets itself apart by the quality of the Alarm.com App. It allows you to utilize comprehensive video analytics to fine-tune sensitivity, coverage area, and notifications so that you can customize the video notifications to your needs.
The Alarm.com App is intuitive and user-friendly…so that with a bit of trial and error, even a novice can control and manage the cameras. The App provides tutorials and walks you step by step through the process.
Why is this important?
Well, the camera is set up to record short video clips whenever it detects motion within its field of vision. It stores up to 3000 of those clips in a standard account for 30 days. The camera may generate a clip every time a car drives by, a bird flies by or the neighbor’s dog runs through the yard. Check out the frequency of the clips before setting parameters.
As you can see in the “Highlight” bar running along the bottom, the camera was set off each time a car drove by…6 times in a 45-minute span. (Note how the software uses AI to identify each of the major subjects in the image)
The Alarm.com App allows you to set up parameters so that you can control the sensitivity of the motion sensor….
…as well as the area in which that motion will generate a video clip. In this case, we screened out the street using the “Ground Zone” feature, so that passing vehicles and neighbors walking their dogs would not generate a video clip.
Additionally, we took advantage of the system’s artificial intelligence ability to recognize the difference between objects and set up e-mail notifications when the system recognizes a human in the selected field of vision. This is a great way to know when the mail has arrived!
As a result of the changes made, the ADC-V722W camera no longer generates a video clip whenever a car goes down the street, and I now get notifications only when a human being enters the selected field of vision. And the real beauty of it was that it was a simple and intuitive process!

ADC-V722W Outdoor Security Camera Summary and Final Thoughts
Alarm.com set out to fill the need for a quality outdoor wireless security camera that is simple to install – at a reasonable price. It succeeded with the original ADC V722W and upped the ante with the new ADC-V723W, which has a new form factor and includes 2-way voice capability.
If one were looking to mount a camera in the doorway…that might be an important consideration. For our purposes, this was not a factor.
The 1080P HD picture was crisp and clear…and the night vision performance was reasonably good as well.
The IP66 weatherproof rating should be more than adequate for all but the most hostile and extreme climates.
The ability to easily adjust motion sensitivity, control the field of vision and even use AI and video analytics to manage the notifications seamlessly through the Alarm.com App makes this an attractive option- especially for those already enjoying the benefits of the Alarm.com home automation platform.
It can be a valuable addition to a Frontpoint, Link Interactive, or any Alarm.com compatible system.
