Armorax Security Review – 2018

2018 Armorax Security Review Update

While we were originally impressed with the Armorax Security program, our initial enthusiasm for Armorax has dropped off significantly as the company continues to show signs that it is struggling. There have been a number of changes over the past year that may be cause for concern for potential Armorax customers, and have been reflected in our Armorax reviews summary.

Armorax BBB Rating

The BBB rating has dropped off dramatically from an A (at the time of our original Armorax review) to a C+.

Additionally, the lines of communication are inconsistent.  In our most recent secret shopping efforts, we have found that even the sales department does not consistently pick up the phone. Inbound calls are typically greeted by a voice mail that instructs one to contact 911 if this is an emergency…or to stay on the line for the sales department.

After 2 or 3 minutes on hold, one is finally greeted by an answering service who will take a name and number for a return call.

This makes one wonder what happens if I have a l problem with my system?

Frequent Pricing and Equipment Changes

Equipment Vendors

Additionally, Armorax has switched manufacturers three times over the past year.  They have switched from the state of the art 2 Gig Technologies line up, briefly offered the  Interlogix Simon XT, and are now offering the lesser known Resolution Helix panel.

Rate Plan Changes

Moreover, they have also dramatically changed their monitoring rate structure three times in the past year.

In online Armorax reviews, you will find that practically no two sites reflect the same pricing structure.  Even worse…the rate plans depicted in the reviews are typically not the plans you will find on the web site. (or should I say landing page…more on that later) This is indicative of poor communication between Armorax and their affiliate partners.

They originally offered no contract programs  and programs with Free equipment and monitoring rates as low as $19.99/mo.

Subsequently, they moved away from multiple packages to an all-inclusive rate of $24.99/mo. for security and full home automation. This  was an outstanding value, but, it is no longer available.

Their current offering costs $99.00 up front and basic monitoring starts at $34.99 and this does not even include interactive services.  The mobile app is an additional monthly fee.

Lack of Transparency

Moreover, the total lack of online transparency does little to inspire confidence.

Currently they have a one page website that offers little or no information on the company background, equipment, pricing, monitoring company and services, Mobile App, installation instructions or videos…or just about anything else that a potential customer might want to know.

2018 Armorax Security Review Summary

While the company showed great promise originally, we are no longer enthusiastic  about  endorsing them as one of  the top alarm companies. Perhaps it is just a case of a young company going through some growing pains…and they will ultimately prove to be a strong contender.

However, in the interim, in our opinion, there are much better alternatives. Check out our top alarm companies and see how they compare in our home security company comparison chart.

Below is the original post for our Armorax Security Review. This is for informational and comparison purposes only-as much has changed in the last year. However, it does show why we were enthusiastic about Armorax at the time.

Armorax Security has introduced ultra-affordable, full feature monitoring for just $24.99/mo. to catapult to the forefront and challenge the perennial leaders of our best home security companies list.  Armorax Security Reviews praise the young company for offering top of the line 2GIG Technologies equipment for free and couple that with super affordable monitoring that includes the most sought after Alarm.com  home automation features.

Armorax Blackbox Home Security Review

Can the new kid on the block compete?

Armorax Security

While they may indeed be the new kid on the block in the world of DIY home security, Armorax is carving out a space amongst the top DIY alarm companies by offering state of the art equipment and a laundry list of options for customizing the Armorax Blackbox home security system to customer’s individual needs.

Will they succeed in meeting the needs of discerning DIY home security customers? Time will tell…but, the prospects look quite promising so far.

There are few online  Armorax Blackbox Reviewsbut the few we’ve come across are positive.

>February 2017 Update< – Armorax aligns with Safe Home Security and Introduces Ultra-affordable monitoring Rate- $24.95/mo. with Alarm.com and Crash and Smash!

Our Armorax review  summary and detailed editor’s reviews are followed by the customer Arrmorax  Reviews and  a FAQ section in which we compare Armorax DIY Security with some of our top rated alarm companies.

Reputation and Credibility

Armorax  came on to the DIY home security scene in 2014.  Located in Chicago, Illinois, Armorax  quickly established themselves as a legitimate DIY alarm equipment and service provider by offering the very latest in home security products with a wide selection of monitoring options.

Unlike most traditional home security companies, Armorax does not require a long term contract.  Instead they offer their customers the latest 2 Gig Technologies equipment and the choice of getting a non-monitored, self monitored or professionally monitored home security system.

The website reflects well on the young company.  It is professional, informative and well laid out. However it could be more transparent in regards to add-on equipment pricing.

While they have a limited track record in the industry, they have been accredited by the BBB and have a C+ rating.  Even more impressive is the fact that they enjoy a 4.71 out of 5 rating from 60 customer reviews with the BBB.

Armorax Monitoring

Armorax offers the full spectrum of monitoring options.  A prospective Armorax Home Security System customer can select from:

  • Unmonitored with no equipment subsidies
  • Self Monitored -with or without a 3 year billing commitment
  • Professionally monitored- with or without a 3 year billing commitment

With an unmonitored system there are no equipment subsidies.  Consequently the basic Armorax Blackbox security system package starts at a rather hefty $649.

For the purposes of our Armorax review, we will focus on the latter two, with the industry standard 3 year monitoring agreement. This is by far the most popular option…and includes generous equipment subsidies.

The Cover plan includes 100% Cellular monitoring for just $19.95.  This is an exceptional rate for cellular monitoring services.

Both Control and Complete include remote system management and interactive capabilities from the award winning Alarm.com App. This App enables you to manage the security system and  home automation functions remotely, receive event notifications and observe video on your iOS, Android, Blackberry, Windows, Pebble, and Kindle devices…as well as through a standard web browser.

The Control plan, for $29.95/mo. is a self monitored system and does not include professional monitoring or Alarm.com’s Crash and Smash protection.

The Complete package is an exceptional value, which combines maximum equipment subsidies with comprehensive  interactive capabilities AND top notch professional monitoring services for just $39.95/mo.

>February 2017 Update< – Armorax has aligned themselves  with Safe Home Security and simplified their  rate plan structure by introducing a new Ultra-affordable monitoring Rate- $24.95/mo. with Alarm.com and Crash and Smash!

That’ right...$24.95….and that rate is NOT an introductory rate.  It is locked in for the duration of the 36 month agreement.

This is not some bare-boned plan to get you to call in so they can upsell you.

This is a full featured, comprehensive interactive security and home automation plan that includes:

  • Alarm.com
  • Interactive Service- Arm/Disarm/Notifications and Alerts
  • Comprehensive Home Automation
  • Video Surveillance Monitoring/Management
  • Crash and Smash
  • Geo Services….and more.

All for $24.95/mo.

This blows away pretty much every offer in the marketplace…and renders the old Armorax offers obsolete.

Armorax Customer Service

Although Armorax is a relatively new company, they have a solid A BBB rating and very positive feedback on the BBB reviews. While their posted sales/support is rather limited (10AM-6PM M-F), they do offer 24/7 chat support.

Negative 3rd party feedback is virtually non-existent..which is generally a good indicator that they are taking care of their customers.

In addition to offering the full spectrum of billing options, Armorax backs their equipment with a 30 Day Money Back guarantee and a 3 year equipment warranty.  They’ll even pick up the tabe for return shipping if you are not 100% satisfied!

Overall, it is clear that Armorax is committed to exceeding customer expectations and taking care of their customers.

Do I need a permit to install an Armorax Security system?

Is it compulsory to procure a burglar alarm permit to put in an Armorax Security system?

Because the Armorax alarm system is getting remotely supervised with the objective of making use of emergency response services, lots of local municipalities need to have a permit. In most cases, this will involve standard application with a city police or sheriff’s department as well as some sort of manageable charge. You will likely be expected to provide the name, address and phone number of Armorax, as well as the C.O.P.S.monitoring station, as the  two organisations happen to be different. While most Armorax Security Reviews don’t mention it, when permits will be required, almost all towns will stipulate a 1 time payment to enroll your alarm system, while some towns must have a yearly renewal also. Within towns with higher criminal offense and false alarm rates, failure to register can result in some sort of refusal to respond to places that don’t possess a burglar alarm permit…although this can be somewhat exceptional. However, you may be subject to various other fines if law enforcement officials, fire or emergency medical services might be sent to a residence without a permit in towns in instances where one is requested. Even if a permit is in fact procured, almost all cities will likely assess fines with regards to frequent false alarms. The vast majority of communities have got procedures put in place where the 1st One or two dispatches usually do not require penalties. Subsequent to which fines generally rise from $25-50 for the initial enforceable offense…to $100-200 for succeeding repeat infractions. That’s why, it is necessary that Armorax customers communicate with the local area police department, determine what permits are expected, acquire a complete understanding of the local policies and be certain they consider the crucial simple steps to forestall false alarms.

Ways to prevent false alarms with Armorax.
Ways to help you Prevent Armorax False Alarms As mentioned above, false alarms caused by Armorax security systems may be not just a nuisance, but camn also create a substantial strain on your neighborhood police force as well as critical services departments… and could quite possibly wind up generating costly fines. Most Armorax Reviews don’t mention it, but the vast majority of police calls to homes with Armorax Security systems are due to false alarms.  As a consequence, the most municipalities can assess charges to homeowners if they go beyond a selected amount false alarms. To prevent this from happening to you, the following are some recommendations to avoid a false alarm with your Armorax Blackbox system. • Make certain that everyone knows the right way to disarm the security alarm. Your alarm will have a master passcode, and in many cases a number of supplemental customer codes that can be programmed into the system. Try to make sure everyone knows his or her code as well as understands how to disarm the burglar alarm. • Be sure that everybody also has learned the password. In the case of an alarm, the central monitoring station is going to  call your home initially and request the security password to verify that the man or woman replying is really an authorized user.  In the instance of an alarm, should the individual picking up the call not be able to produce the proper security password, the police will probably be sent. • Check tthe windows and doors to make sure that they are properly shut before arming the system. A door that has been left a little bit ajar may very well be blown openin your absence and set off the alarm. • Confirm that all sensors are securely mounted and in the proper places. Motion sensors ought to be affixed at a height of 6’ as well as clear of fans, heating units, fireplace and ac units. • Take into consideration things that may very well trigger a motion sensor. It’s not just the pets. Air conditioning units might cause fluttering draperies or plants. Watch out for helium balloons which can be transported around the your home because of air currents. Ensure that they strapped down away from the motions. • If at all possible, your pets should really be limited to zones clear of motion detectors. In the event that’s not  viable, look into  “pet friendly” or “pet immune” detectors that could screen out smaller sized pets under 40, 50 even 80 lbs. Motions can be set up to generate pet alleys in which pets may move freely about. Or, you could use glass break sensors as an alternative to motions. • Make sure to remove and replace batteries when needed. Just about all systems utilize Li-Ion batteries which have at a minimum a two year expected lifespan. Your Armorax App will usually notify you if the batteries have gotten low and continue to warn you if there’s less than a month of functional life. It is advisable to get additional batteries available and remove and replace them promptly. Your Armorax Blackbox system may also notify you should there be any other troubles with sensors. In the event you receive a system error notification, perform a status check and investigate the sensor. Contact Armorax customer service if it looks to be not operational. Save your user Armorax Blackbox manuals/codes/passwords in a reliable specified spot where they might be checked if needed. However, the easiest way to avoid false alarms is to utilize your system on a regular basis and ensure everyone understands how to operate the system.
