Past online Vivint reviews don’t always paint a pretty picture…but, the management team at Vivint Security made a number of changes since 2017 including measures to increase transparency, improve customer service and enhance the overall experience of Vivint Home Security owners.
Consequently, Vivint continues to rise to the top of online rankings!
HINT: Have you had “security professionals” come knocking on your door to upgrade or sell you a home security system? To be sure that you get the latest promotions and the most accurate information…we highly recommend that you call the number listed below and speak with authorized Vivint personnel.

Hands-On Reviews
Many of the products we review are items that we have been sent for evaluation or even chosen to purchase for our own use. In the case of home security companies, such as Vivint, that require professional installation, this is not feasible. However, we have had direct experience with the actual hardware that is used by the company.
We review hundreds of personal and home security products and companies and analyze thousands of customer reviews so that we can lay out both the good and the bad when we evaluate the best home security companies…or any other products or services.
When a hands-on review isn’t practical, we research items thoroughly online and may scrutinize hundreds of customer reviews to better assess the actual owner experience.
In many cases, we provide additional sections of important things to consider to help you determine what makes the most sense for your situation.
Quick Link TOC

2024 Vivint Security System Review
Reputation and Credibility
Founded in 1999 by Todd Pederson as APX Security, the company was rebranded in 2010, as Vivint. While they were plagued by BBB and customer service complaints during the APX years, since the rebrand and acquisition by The Goldstone Group, much greater emphasis has been placed on quality assurance, customer service, and complaint resolution.
They have shown many signs of their commitment to enhancing the customer experience. Much progress has been made in the past year and they are currently listed as the 3rd largest company on the SDM Top 100.
Monitoring and the Vivint App
Vivint offers 2 monthly monitoring options. Smart Security for 29.99 and Smart Home for $39.99.
Equipment is purchased separately. It can be paid in full in advance or financed on either a 42 or 60-month basis with 0% interest.
If paid in full…monitoring is available on a month-to-month basis.
If the equipment is financed, system monitoring is coterminous. Monitoring payments must continue for the duration of the equipment contract.
Vivint Monitoring Center
Their UL Listed, Five Diamond Certified monitoring station was awarded the CSAA Central Station of the Year Award in 2012. and provides 24/7 protection against intrusion, medical and personal safety, fire, and environmental hazards.
Vivint App
Vivint uses only fully integrated cellular-based communications connections to the CMS. This eliminates the possibility of defeating the system by disabling the main unit or cutting a phone line or cable. The interactive remote management capability is provided through the proprietary Vivint App.

Vivint Pricing and Vivint Alarm System Equipment
The equipment is professionally installed by Vivint.
The Vivint equipment is made to their specifications by 2Gig, one of the fastest-growing home security equipment manufacturers. It carries a Lifetime Warranty (while it is monitored by Vivint) and requires no activation fee(in most cases).
The touchscreen Vivint Panel is state-of-the-art and is more feature-rich and aesthetically pleasing than most panels. Add-ons, such as an indoor camera, are competitive with other professionally installed systems and can be financed for either 42-60 months.
They do not offer broadband or landline monitoring, so all packages include cellular monitoring. This eliminates the possibility of a system being compromised by cutting cable or phone lines.
Cellular monitoring is becoming increasingly popular to ensure secure communications in the event of an emergency.
Vivint Customer Service
They has made great strides in the quality of the Customer Service team.
While the current customer experience is generally positive, there is significant room for improvement in the customer resolution area when problems do arise.
Summary
Vivint offers a premium program with outstanding technology and home automation capabilities. Their product packaging offerings are limited to the higher end of the pricing spectrum and the value-conscious consumer would likely need to look elsewhere.
As they continue to put customer service issues behind them and can keep their customers happy, Vivint is a great choice for one seeking a premium, professionally installed security, and home automation solution.
However, we do highly recommend avoiding spur-of-the-moment decisions based solely on the sales presentation by their outside sales personnel. The majority of Vivint’s complaints have been lodged based on experiences stemming from the “door-knocking” marketing efforts.

Vivint Security Reviews - Video Transcript
Vivint Reviews – Video Transcript
Vivint Home Security was founded in 1999 by Todd Peterson as APX security. The company was rebranded in 2010 as Vivint.
While they were plagued by Better Business Bureau and poor Vivint Security reviews during the APX years, since the rebrand and acquisition by the Goldstone Group, much greater emphasis has been placed on quality assurance, customer service and complaint resolution. Although they currently have just a b-minus Better Business Bureau rating, much progress has been made.
They are currently listed as the fifth largest company on the SDM top 101. They won the Stevey award for the customer service department of the year in 2014.
Vivint incorporates most of the equipment costs into the monthly monitoring fees and requires a 42-month agreement.
Their UL-listed, 5 diamond certified monitoring station was awarded the CSA central station of the Year award in 2012.
Vivint uses only fully integrated cellular-based communications- thus eliminating the possibility of defeating the system by cutting a phone line or cable.
Three equipment package options are offered by Vivint ranging from 53.99 to 69.99. The equipment is professionally installed by Vivint and the security components are made by 2gig. They are one of the fastest-growing home security manufacturers.
The system carries a lifetime warranty and is a state-of-the-art, feature-rich, and aesthetically pleasing system.
Activation fees range from $99 for the smart home security package to $199 for the full home automation package. There are three equipment packages:
The smart home security is $50.99 a month and includes a wireless touchscreen control panel, 3 door and window contacts, a wireless keychain remote. It features 24/7 monitoring and free interactive and remote monitoring with severe weather alerts.
The smart energy management plan provides the same security coverage with the addition of energy management capabilities for $59.99 a month. You’ll get all of the smart home security features plus a smart thermostat, one small appliance control, and light and temperature management capabilities.
Their smart home automation is available for $69.99 a month. It is their premium package that includes all of the same features of smart energy management, plus a video camera, electronic remote door lock, and video capabilities.
While quality components are included in each of the packages for free, add-ons can get pricey.
While Vivint home security reviews indicate they have made great strides in the quality of customer service… this area still remains in question. Although newer Vivint Reviews are generally positive, the B – Better Business Bureau rating would seem to indicate there’s still some room for improvement in the customer resolution area. When problems do arise the 2014 Stevie Award would seem to indicate that Vivint is definitely heading in the right direction.
In summary, Vivint pricing is in line with a premium program with outstanding technology and home automation capabilities. Their Vivint packages and the Vivint cost of equipment are on the higher end of the pricing spectrum and the value-conscious consumer would likely need to look elsewhere.
However, if they’ve truly put their customer service issues behind them, the Vivint security system is an excellent choice for one who is comfortable with the Vivint pricing and wants the most comprehensive security and home automation solution.

Vivint Alarm Systems vs ADT Monitored Security
Vivint and ADT are two of the best-known, national companies that professionally install security and home automation systems.
The Vivint brand has become more well known, recently, while ADT has been in business for over 140 years. They have over 6 million customers and have sat at the Top of the SDM Top 100 since the turn of the century.
Vivint has been installing 2 Gig Technologies systems in recent years, since rebranding in 2010…and has differentiated itself by focusing on the home automation capabilities of their systems.
While Vivint owns their own monitoring center, ADT owns and operates 6 UL Listed, 5 Diamond Certified monitoring stations staffed with the most highly trained professionals in the business. This enables them to route calls to another monitoring center in the event of a natural disaster.
While Vivint security systems are 100% cellular-based only, ADT customers have the option of landline-based security systems if they live in an area that does not have cellular service.

Vivint Alarm System vs Frontpoint Home Alarm
Vivint Home Security vs. Frontpoint Security
In 8 years of operation, Frontpoint has carefully cultivated a reputation for providing world class customer service and has maintained an A+ BBB rating.
Since rebranding as Vivint Security, (previously APX Security) they have struggled with the many of the reputation-related issues of the previous company…which is likely a by-product of the aggressive door to door marketing approach.
Consequently, they have a B- BBB rating.
Vivint alarm system uses some of the most technologically advanced home security and automation equipment by 2Gig Technologies. The standard Frontpoint alarm system is the GE Simon XT, but they now offer an upgraded Qolsys IQ panel which has similar premium features such as:
- 7″ Touchscreen Display
- Photo Slide Show, Video Camera Display, Current Weather Display
- Integrated Image Capture/notification when the system is armed/disarmed
- Severe Weather Alerts
While Vivint home security may offer a bit more equipment with their home automation packages, they are a bit more expensive than Frontpoint when it comes to the monthly monitoring.
Frontpoint Security Monitoring prices range from $34.95 to $49.95.
Vivint monitoring requires no contracts if the equipment is purchased outright.
Equipment can be financed with 0% interest over42 to 60 months.
In conclusion, while the technology of the professionally installed Vivint security system is outstanding… some may prefer the DIY install and top notch customer service from Frontpoint Security!

Vivint Smart Home vs Armorax
Vivint Smart Home vs Armorax
2018 Update of Armorax vs Vivint Reviews
Our initial interest pertaining to Armorax has slipped off significantly as they continuously demonstrate indicators that it is having difficulties. The BBB status has slipped off noticeably coming from an A (from the time of the original Vivint reviews) to a C+. This might be indicative of the fact that Armorax has not resolved customer complaints-even when they are lodged with the BBB. During our secret shopping endeavors, we have found that even the sales department will not pick up the phone. Inbound calls are usually met with with a voice mail which prompts one to contact 911 if this is an emergency…or to remain on the line for the sales representative. Following 2 or 3 additional minutes on hold, one is finally greeted by an answering service that’ll demand a name along with phone number for a return call. This makes one wonder what takes place if I have a issues with my security system?
Frequent Changes Since Original Vivint Reviews
In addition, Armorax has switched suppliers 3 x in the last calendar year. They have converted from the state-of-the-art 2 Gig lineup, briefly marketed the Interlogix Simon XT, and are now offering the less popular Resolution Helix panel. They also have dramatically changed their monitoring rate plan multiple times in the last year. With regard to online Armorax reviews, you will notice that virtually no 2 websites indicate the same pricing structure. They originally featured no contract plans and also plans together with Free equipment and monitoring rates as little as $19.99/mo. (their one time fee of $24.99/mo. for security and full home automation was an exceptional value for money, when our original evaluations and side by side comparisons in our Vivint Smart Home reviews had been completed …but, are no longer presented) Their present-day package costs you $99.00 up-front together with basic monitoring starts at $34.99. This price does not include the Mobile APP-which is extra!
Lack of Transparency
While the Vivint Smart Home program has made great strides to enhance transparency, Armorax has gone the other direction. Presently they’ve got a a single page website that gives minimal details about the company track record, products, pricing, monitoring provider and services, Mobile App, Set up instructions or even online videos …or almost anything other than that that a possible client will want to appreciate. Although the Armorax showed excellent promise originally, we feel that the Vivint Smart Home, we are seeing a marked improvement in online Vivint reviews showing renewed consumer satisfaction. The Vivint Smart Home is a much more reliable choice to protect your home and family.
Home Alarm System Design
Vivint Reviews – Designing your Vivint Alarm System
- Perimeter Protection – One of the first steps in creating an effective home security system is to put potential criminals on notice that your home is protected by a well-recognized home security company. Make sure to place your yard signs, window stickers and Vivint security cameras where they can easily be seen. In most cases, they will move n in hopes of finding an easier target. Nevertheless, you don’t want to risk the safety of your home and family on it. The next step would be to install sensors on your doors and any vulnerable windows.
- Interior Protection – In the event an intruder is able to get past the perimeter protection, you want to have a secondary line of defense. This would include motion sensors, glass break detectors, additional keypads, and interior Vivint Home Security Cameras. Motion sensors can cover larger areas and hallways or stairways. The control panels can monitor security cameras as well as provide easy access to system management and panic alert buttons. Many people like to have them in a home office or master bedroom.
- Asset Protection- Most alarm systems allow you to set up certain sensors as “non-reporting. This means that, if they are set off, they will only send a signal to you through your Vivint App. However, they will not set off the system or call the monitoring station. This lets you monitor sensitive areas without alerting the police. Common applications might be gun cabinets, medicine or liquor cabinets, pool gates, or office doors.
- Environmental Protection – Your security system can also be set up to monitor environmental hazards such as fire, carbon monoxide, flooding, or freezing. They provide specific sensors for each of these applications.
- Home Automation- Vivint Security Systems are optimized for home automation. You can control lighting, cameras, heat and air conditioning, doors, and garage door openers. Your Vivint Alarm can control virtually any home automation feature right from your smartphone.

Should I Include Garage Security Devices in My System?
Should I add the Garage to my Vivint Home Security System?
While there may be cheaper ways to enhance garage door security, there are some good arguments to be made for adding the garage to your system.
Quality – First of all, if you are buying components from Vivint, you know that they have been tested, tried, and proven in the field. They aren’t going to use shoddy equipment that will result in complaints, service issues, and lost monitoring customers.
Service – If you do have service or support issues, it is best to consolidate those issues with one provider. It affords you additional leverage and prevents you from having to track down support numbers and deal with multiple providers.
Selection – Vivint Home Security offers a wide selection of security and home automation equipment that is compatible with their equipment and home automation platforms. You won’t have to worry about getting devices that won’t play well with your other equipment.
Installation – Your Vivint Security equipment will be professionally installed and you will have an experienced support team that can ensure that everything is working the way it should.
Top 6 Ways to Enhance Garage Security with Vivint Home Security Systems
In addition to arming the front door and all perimeter doors, installing doorbell cameras, and a smart drive…savvy homeowners are taking additional steps to protect their garages. Popular additions include:
Outdoor Vivint Security Camera – Keep an eye on who approaches your garage doors and monitor activity. Most outdoor security cameras offer 1080P HD resolution with motion detection and night vision.
Overhead Door Monitors – Always know whether the largest entry is open or closed. Tilt sensors use an inclinometer to detect the angle of the garage door. They send a signal to the control panel whether the overhead garage door is in an open or closed position.
Garage Door Openers – Allow automation and remote management of the overhead doors. With a wireless connection to the main home security system control panel, the doors can be controlled and even automated from the panel or right through the alarms system App.
Indoor Vivint Security Camera – Monitor activity within the garage when access is gained. In our household, we have shipments and grocery deliveries inside the garage. With an inside camera, we can keep an eye on things remotely.
Exterior Door Contacts – Keep all vulnerable garage doors protected. Exterior and/or home entranceways should be protected.
Heat Detectors – Not affected by smoke and fumes…a heat detector senses rapid rises of temperature due to fire. This is especially important in homes with an attached garage.
So, if the budget allows…updating or installing a home security system that includes garage door security can be well worth the investment!
Do I need a permit to install a Vivint Alarm?
Is it required to secure an alarm permit to put in a Vivint security system?
As it happens, you won’t need a permit if your system is not going to be professionally monitored. Even so, because your home security system is going to be remotely monitored, a lot of local towns must have a permit. Generally, this calls for basic enrollment with a community law enforcement or sheriff’s agency along with some sort of reasonable payment. You will probably be also instructed to provide the company name, address, and phone number of the Vivint monitoring station.
In instances where permits are essential, nearly all towns will demand some sort of 1-time charge to enroll your home security system, even though some towns and cities ask for an annual renewal also. Regarding municipalities with higher crime combined with false alarm rates, failing to register may result in a refusal to respond to locations that don’t have any security alarm permit…although this really is relatively rare. on the other hand, you might be subject to supplemental fines in the event law enforcement officials, fire, or perhaps emergency medical services are sent to a home without a permit present in municipalities where one is required.
Regardless of whether a license is actually purchased, virtually all towns will most likely assess fines for multiple false alarms. Most towns currently have guidelines set up wherein the initial one or two dispatches may not demand fines. While most Vivint Reviews don’t mention it, we would be remiss if we didn’t point out that, subsequent to that, fines ordinarily rise from $25-50 to your 1st enforceable offense…to $100-200 for subsequent recurring infractions.
Consequently, it is recommended that alarm customers get a hold of their neighborhood police department, determine what permits are needed, acquire a full familiarity with the local guidelines, and be certain that they take into account the compulsory ideas in order to prevent false alarms.
Does Vivint Home Security require a landline?
Security Monitoring Options
A Vivint alarm does not require a landline for monitoring.
As a matter of fact, many security systems do not use landlines at all. Cellular monitoring is built into all Vivint prices so that everyone has access to the mobile app. This also means that there are no phone or cable wires that can be cut to defeat the system or prevent the app from sending a notification. Many homes are defraying Vivint prices by eliminating their home landline completely.
False Alarms-How to Avoid Them
Ways to help you Prevent Vivint Security False Alarms
To be clear, Vivint will not charge you for a false alarm.
However, as stated previously, false alarms resulting from your system could become more than just an inconvenience, They can create a substantial overload on your local authorities as well as emergency services resources and could quite possibly result in steep fees and penalties.
While most Vivint Reviews don’t disclose it, the vast majority of dispatches are caused by false alarms.
Consequently, a large percentage of towns assess fines to property owners when they go over a specific volume of false alarms.
To prevent this from this happening to you, here are some ideas for preventing a false alarm with your Vivint system.
• Make sure everyone knows the way to disarm the burglar alarm. Your security alarm has a master code, as well as a number of supplemental customer passcodes that can be programmed into the system. Make sure everyone knows their code along with learns how to disarm the security system.
• Be certain that everybody also knows the security password. If there is an alarm, the central monitoring station will definitely contact the home first and ask for the password to verify that the individual picking up is definitely a legitimate party. If they are unable to give the proper security password, the authorities would be dispatched.
• Confirm that doors and windows are properly secured prior to setting the system. Any entrance that has been left a little bit ajar may very well be blown open while you are away and set off the alarm. • Make certain that all detectors are attached correctly and in the most suitable positions. Motion detectors must be set up at a height of 6’ as well as away from fans, heaters, fireplace, and air conditioning units.
• Take note of items that might possibly trigger a motion sensor. It’s not just pets ..AC units could cause fluttering draperies or plants…even helium balloons which can be moved within your home by means of air currents. Confirm they have been tied down away from the motions.
• In a perfect world, your pets really should be limited to zones away from motion detectors. Any time that is not viable, check into “pet-friendly” or “pet immune” detectors which can screen out smaller pets below 40, 50 even 80 lbs. Another option is to make use of glass break sensors instead of motions.
• Be certain to switch out batteries when required. The majority of alarm systems utilize Li-Ion batteries which have at the very least a 2 year estimated life expectancy.
Your Vivint App will in most cases inform you once the batteries are becoming low and continue to alert you when there is nearly 1 month of useful life. It is advisable to acquire spare batteries on hand and replace them promptly. Your system will also alert you in case there are any other failures of sensors.
In the event that you get a system fault alert, do a status check and examine the sensor. Contact Vivint Security if it appears not operational. Keep your user manuals/codes/passwords in a reliable selected spot specifically where they can be consulted if required.
Keep in mind, the easiest way to avert false alarms is by using your system on a consistent basis and being sure everyone is aware of how to operate the system.

Vivint Reviews – Tips for Keeping Your Security System Safe from Hackers
Transcript:
If your equipment package includes smart home devices, such as a Vivint Security Camera or thermostat, you should be advised that extra precautions should be taken to protect your WiFi networks. The convenience of having a smart home that can be managed by your Vivint App is wonderful. However, it can also create weak links that can be exploited by hackers.
Consequently, when installing your Vivint Smart Home, be sure to follow the best practices below to ensure that your home network is protected properly.
Research the Device
If you are planning to add 3rd party smart home devices to your Alarm System, it is important to follow recommended guidelines to minimize the chances of being hacked. First, it is best to purchase equipment from reputable smart device manufacturers. They are more likely to incorporate encrypted signals and require password protection, one or two-step authentication, and offer frequent over-the-air firmware and security updates.
Register the Equipment
It’s important to register each device. This will accomplish a couple of things:
- Activate the warranty and
- Qualify you for receiving any firmware updates.
Pay Attention to Passwords
Make sure that you change the default passwords. Try to use different combinations of letters, cases, numbers, and symbols.
In addition, it is best to set up unique passwords for each smart device. This prevents a hacker from gaining access to all your sensitive accounts if the password for one is discovered.
Make Sure Your Wi-Fi Network is Secure
To keep your security system safe, you need to secure the entire home network. Changing the name of the network and the default password is a good place to start. Use a network name that doesn’t include your address or any personal details.
Consider Professional Installation
While the basics of the DIY system installation are pretty straightforward, you might want to get professional help to enhance your network security.
An expert technician can help if you have questions with the Vivint App or setting up storage parameters for a Vivint Home Security Camera.
Reset to Factory Default Settings
Before you dispose of, sell or give away any of your Vivint Alarm System smart devices, make sure to remove all of your data. For more information on Smart Homes, Vivint Pricing and Vivint Reviews… visit The Home Security Advisor.

Emergency Response Times
Vivint Home Security System Response Times
How Long Will It Take for Vivint Home Security to Respond to an Intrusion?
An alarm system will typically employ a 30-60 second entry delay on your primary entry for you to allow you the opportunity to disarm the alarm.
The unit can also be put on “Instant” mode in the event that everybody is home.
Typically the alarm will go off after any delay if the system is not disarmed. The monitoring center reaction times usually are determined from the time that a signal is received to the time the monitoring center calls the home to confirm the alert. These times certainly ought to turn out to be inside a minute.
Vivint Home Security suggests that the system is subjected to testing on a weekly or at least on a monthly basis to make certain that security system is operating correctly.
Nationwide, the typical response period by the authorities is roughly 7 minutes, but, this can fluctuate dramatically with regards to the locale of your house, the nature of the circumstance, whether there’s audio or perhaps video confirmation (On a Vivint Security camera through the Vivint App) as well as the current demand and even accessibility to neighboring emergency assistance at the time of the call.
Verifying Door to Door Sales Personnel
Avoid a Vivint Scam – Verify Your Sales Rep
With the summer upon us, there are many thousands of home security door-to-door sales reps hitting the streets with offers for “free” home security systems.
It is important to exercise great caution in dealing with these companies.
While most are honest, there are many unscrupulous reps who will say almost anything to make the sale. Vivint has come under scrutiny in the past for their door to door sales efforts…and now takes great pains to provide additional oversight and transparency to the Vivint door to door program.
To avoid a potential scam, if a door-to-door sales rep comes to your home, you should first get their badge number and verify their identity.
Each Vivint sales rep is issued a photo ID with a badge number that can be entered online to verify that they are an authorized representative.
There are Vivint Reviews that reference a Vivint scam involving unscrupulous competitors posing as Vivint sales reps updating equipment to a competitors system which had “bought them out”
So when it comes to any door-to-door sales “pitch” – be wary.
Make sure to verify their identity- and don’t sign anything on the spot. The “deal” will still be available tomorrow.
Make sure to do your due diligence. Frankly…for the best deal, we recommend that you deal with any company directly.

Vivint seems to have a great understanding about Home security. I like the nice looking touch screen monitor and the smart technology they offer. However; I find them super expensive. I had a bad experience with a few of their marketing guys. They are some what pushy and overall over aggressive.
Thanks Mike
