2024 Brinks Home Security Reviews – Costs, Prices, and Ratings for Brinks Security Systems
In our 2024 Brinks Home Security reviews, we explore the resurgence of one of the most storied home security brands and take a close look at how Brinks Security systems stack up to the competition.
Brief History of Brinks Security
Founded over 100 years ago as a bank courier service, Brinks launched a home security division in 1983 and evolved into one of the nation’s most recognized home alarm companies until they were bought out by ADT in 2010. However, they retained the branding rights and recently entered into a long-term licensing agreement with Moni Security.
Moni Security – LiveWatch Security – now Brinks Home Security?
Recently renamed Moni, Monitronics is a national security company that provides top-rated monitoring services and installations primarily through a network of authorized dealers. In 2018, they rebranded as Moni and began the process of expanding their business model to include the integration of corporate-owned sales and installation efforts to supplement the dealer program.
Moni is hoping the acquisition of the rights to market their Moni and Livewatch product lines under one of the oldest, most trusted, and highly recognized Brinks Security brands will accelerate their growth.
Brinks Home Security-On the Move
In addition to providing direct-to-consumer DIY security solutions, Brinks Home Security sells security systems through a large network of independent authorized dealers and agents.
To further drive their aggressive growth, they purchase large groups of contracted accounts from other companies. In June 2020, Brinks announced that it was acquiring 114,000 residential alarm contracts from Protect America. The structure of the acquisition included a $15 million upfront payment as well as substantial monthly earnout payments to Protect America over the course of the next 50 months. (as reported by Globe News Wire)
Those previously under contract with Protect America will now be monitored by Brinks Home Security.
2022 Update- Brinks Home Security…now Brinks Home
In yet another chapter of the evolution of the Monitronics branding, Brinks Home security has announced that they are re-branding to Brinks Home to better reflect the home automation capabilities of their systems.
In an excerpt from a recent article in Security Info Watch, Brinks Home CEO William E. Niles stated.
“Our company is undergoing a transformation from the top down, and part of this is recognizing that we offer customers more than just home security, we remove the worry from day-to-day life with our smart home security. In order to reflect this shift in how we think about what we offer customers – a home that is connected, safe, and protected – we have dropped ‘security’ from our name and included it in our new tagline: Security for Life.”
Additionally, Brinks Home has committed to a top-down approach to refine internal operations, enhance the culture and improve the customer experience.
We encourage our readers to share their new experiences in our section for Brinks Home Security Reviews.
Brinks Security Reviews
One of the reasons that Monitronics elected to revamp its program and rebrand was not only to capitalize on the name recognition of a powerhouse security brand but also to counter negative perceptions from existing customer Monitronics reviews.
While overall our LiveWatch reviews were positive, Monitronics reviews were not always as kind.
We hope that folks will weigh in below in our section for Brinks Alarm reviews.

Brinks Home Security Pros And Cons
This section aims to provide an objective analysis of the pros and cons associated with Brinks Home Security.
Our objective is to present some common factors to consider
This approach ensures that readers can make informed decisions regarding their home security needs.
Brinks Home Security Pros
Professional UL Listed Monitoring
One advantage of Brinks Home Security is its 24/7 professional monitoring service. This feature ensures continuous surveillance and prompt response to any security breaches or emergencies that may occur. With trained professionals monitoring the system round the clock, homeowners can have peace of mind knowing that their property is being watched over at all times.
The professional monitoring service provided by Brinks Home Security offers several benefits. Firstly, it allows for immediate detection of any unauthorized entry or suspicious activity within the protected premises. In such cases, a signal is immediately sent to a central monitoring station where trained operators assess the situation and take appropriate action, such as contacting the homeowner or alerting emergency services if necessary.
Secondly, this constant monitoring helps deter potential burglars or intruders from targeting homes with Brinks security systems. The knowledge that an alarm will be triggered and authorities alerted as soon as they attempt to break into a property acts as a strong deterrent against criminal activity.
Furthermore, the professional monitoring service extends beyond just burglary protection. It also includes features like fire and smoke detection, carbon monoxide monitoring, and medical alert systems. These additional safeguards ensure that homeowners receive timely assistance in case of fires or other emergencies, potentially saving lives and minimizing property damage.
Brinks Home – Professional Installation
Brinks Home offers professional installation services for its home security systems. Their team of trained technicians will come to your home and install the system, ensuring that it is set up correctly and functioning properly.
During the installation process, the technician will assess your home’s security needs and determine the best placement for the various components of the system, such as sensors, cameras, and control panels. They will then install and configure these components, making sure that everything is connected and working seamlessly.
The technician will also provide a tutorial on how to use the system, including arming and disarming it, setting up alerts and notifications, and accessing the system remotely through a mobile app or web portal. They will answer any questions you may have and ensure that you are comfortable using the system before they leave.
By opting for professional installation, you can have peace of mind knowing that your Brinks Home security system is installed correctly and optimized for your home’s specific needs.
Brinks Security Cons
Upfront Equipment and Monitoring Costs
A potential drawback of the mentioned security system is its higher installation cost compared to other options. Brinks Home Security, while offering top-of-the-line security features and services, comes with a higher upfront investment. This can be attributed to various factors such as the advanced technology used in their equipment and the professional installation services provided by Brinks technicians.
Compared to DIY security systems that allow homeowners to install the equipment themselves, Brinks requires professional installation. This ensures that all components are installed correctly and functioning optimally. However, this additional service comes at a cost. The fees associated with professional installation can increase the overall expense for those seeking a Brinks Home Security system.
Moreover, when compared to other professionally monitored home security systems on the market, Brinks tends to have slightly higher monthly monitoring fees. While these fees are justified by the quality of service provided and the extensive monitoring network offered by Brinks, they may be seen as a disadvantage by some customers who are looking for more budget-friendly options.
It is worth noting that although there may be an initial higher cost of installation and ongoing monthly expenses with Brinks Home Security, it is essential to consider the long-term benefits and peace of mind that come with their comprehensive security solutions. Ultimately, customers need to evaluate their specific needs and budget constraints before deciding if Brinks Home Security aligns with their requirements.
Long-Term Brinks Security Contract
The typical Brinks security contract is for three years and requires a security check.
Here are some key aspects of a long-term Brinks security contract:
1. Security System Installation: Brinks will install a comprehensive security system that includes surveillance cameras, motion sensors, door/window sensors, and a control panel. The system is designed to detect and deter intruders and alert the customer and Brinks monitoring center in case of any security breaches.
2. 24/7 Monitoring: Brinks provides 24/7 monitoring of the security system. This means that trained professionals at Brinks monitoring centers will continuously monitor the customer’s property for any security threats. In case of an alarm activation, the monitoring center will notify the appropriate authorities and the customer.
3. Contract Terms and Renewal: A long-term Brinks security contract typically lasts for three to five years. At the end of the initial term, the contract may automatically renew for a further period unless either party decides to terminate the agreement. The terms of the contract, including pricing, services, and cancellation policies, are agreed upon before signing.
It’s important for customers to carefully review the terms and conditions of the Brinks security contract and understand their rights and obligations. Consulting with an attorney or security consultant can be beneficial to ensure the contract meets the customer’s specific security requirements and provides adequate protection for their property.
Additionally, customers should consider the following factors when entering into a long-term Brinks security contract:
1. Cost: The cost of a long-term Brinks security contract can vary depending on the services and features included. Customers should carefully review the pricing structure, including any upfront fees, monthly monitoring fees, and additional charges for upgrades or maintenance.
2. Service Level Agreement: The contract should outline the specific services and response times that Brinks will provide. This includes the duration of alarm response, the average time it takes for the monitoring center to alert the authorities, and the expected timeframe for maintenance and support.
3. Liability and Insurance: Customers should clarify their liability and insurance responsibilities in case of any damages or losses that occur during the contract period. Brinks may have limitations on their liability, and customers may need to obtain additional insurance coverage to protect their property.
4. Termination Clause: It’s important to understand the terms and conditions for terminating the contract before its expiration. This includes any associated fees or penalties for early termination and the procedure for canceling the service.
5. Transferability: If the customer plans to sell or move their property during the contract period, they should confirm whether the contract is transferable to the new owner or location. This will ensure a smooth transition of security services without any disruptions.
6. Reputation and Reviews: Before entering into a long-term contract, customers should research Brinks Home Security’s reputation and read reviews from other customers. This will help determine the reliability and quality of their services.
By considering these factors and carefully reviewing the contract, customers can make an informed decision about entering into a long-term Brinks security contract.

Some customers have reported issues with the system’s reliability, such as false alarms, delayed notifications, or malfunctions. Additionally, there have been complaints about the pricing structure and contract terms of Brinks Home Security System. Some customers have found the pricing to be higher than expected, and have been dissatisfied with the cancellation or renewal policies outlined in their contracts.

Brinks Security Summary
Brinks offers a quality home security alarm system alternative to one seeking a nationally recognized brand. They offer either DIY or a professionally installed system, installed by a local authorized dealer. While they certify the individual dealers to help assure quality and customer satisfaction, the service experience may vary significantly depending on the caliber of the independent dealer in your area.
Having been involved in a couple of major acquisitions in the last couple of years, it appears that the customer experience may have been suffering. In light of the fact that there has been so much change in the past few years, one might be better served by companies that have a more stable track record and business model.
If you are getting your system professionally installed, we recommend that you research the local dealer, and explore our top alarm companies before making any long-term commitment.

Brinks Home Security Cameras, Common Sensors, and Components
Brinks offers a full line-up of security and home automation equipment. This lets you customize your home security system so that it fits your needs and budget.
Our Brinks Home Security reviews reveal that customers want alarm systems that are fully expandable and compatible with home automation devices. Brinks alarm systems can start out fairly basic, and allow you to build upon them when your needs change and/or your budget allows.
We have listed many of the most commonly used components, below.
The Basic Brinks Security Package
The Control Panel Hub
At one time, it was common practice to have a separate base unit and keypad. Now, most companies integrate the two. You still find very basic units with pushbutton controls, but most will offer a touchscreen display.
Touchscreen Panel – Most top wireless systems are equipped with a touchscreen panel where you can arm and disarm your system and manage any connected devices. The panels can be just plugged in and set up with a desktop display mount, or they can be permanently mounted on the wall. Most modern systems will have an internal cellular antenna that can function as a primary or backup means of communication.
Cellular Communicator – Sometimes the cellular communicator may be a device all on its own. It can be mounted independently in a spot where it gets the best cellular service. It can be used, in some cases, to keep connected to the app as well as the monitoring center. A cellular connection can be a major advantage because it can’t be cut, unlike regular phone lines and cable.
Window/Door Sensors – Otherwise known as contact or entry sensors. Each sensor is two parts, one that goes on the door or window frame, and one that goes on the door or window itself. One is a magnet and one is a transmitter. When the magnetic field between the two is broken, a signal is sent to the main unit. It is usually recommended to place sensors on all doors and the most vulnerable windows on the main floor.
Motion Sensors- Motion sensors detect movement inside the house. They typically screen out smaller objects (below 40 lbs.) and can be placed in larger common areas in the home where an intruder might pass.
Glass Break Sensors- Glass break sensors, as the name implies, can detect the sounds of glass breaking, as intruders will often break windows to gain entry. They are not typically included in basic packages, but can sometimes be swapped out and often used instead of motion detectors when there are larger pets in the home.
Keypad- Keypads are used to enter passcodes to arm and disarm your system. In many systems, they are integrated into the main hub. They should be placed on the wall or near where you most commonly enter and exit your home. Secondary optional wireless keypads can be placed in master bedrooms or other areas where one might want to arm or disarm the system
Panic button- Panic buttons are often included on the main keypad. They can immediately alert the monitoring station of an occupied medical, fire, or personal threat or emergency. There are also separate wireless buttons or pendants available which can be activated anywhere with range of the base unit
Key Fob- Often referred to as keychain remotes, key fobs work with most wireless security systems so that you can arm and disarm them even away from the keypad. Some key fobs can also include a panic alert feature.
Yard Sign- Yard signs can serve as a deterrent. They alert anyone that the home is protected by either Frontpoint Home Security or a Vivint alarm system. Company. While some people argue that this will ward off would-be intruders, others argue that they may provide insights as to the age and make of the systems to a savvy criminal. Realistically, they are more likely going to move on to easier targets.
Window Stickers- The same arguments arise when it comes to window stickers. Some experts suggest that it might make sense to use signs and stickers from a different company if you are concerned.
Siren- The majority of security system touch screen panels or base stations have sirens built-in. We recommend sirens of at least 85 decibels. Auxiliary sirens are typically available for larger homes or systems which don’t have built-in sirens
Environmental Sensors
Top wireless alarm companies provide equipment that will allow you to monitor a variety of potential threats within your home. Typically, each of the components below can be integrated seamlessly into the system and monitored right through the system’s app.
Smoke Detector- In the event of a fire, a wireless smoke detector will automatically send a signal to the central monitoring station if no one is home or if they are unable to get to the phone. Many of them also incorporate a rate-of-rise heat sensor which can detect rapid increases in temperature. This is helpful in extreme temperatures if cooling systems fail, or if there is a flash fire that doesn’t have a lot of smoldering smoke.
CO Sensor – Carbon monoxide is a tasteless, colorless, and odorless gas that can be lethal if ingested in large quantities. Wireless alarm systems equipped with monitored CO detectors will alert you of dangerous levels of CO even when you’re not home.
Smoke/CO Firefighter Module- Already have standard smoke and CO in the home? Some wireless home security systems are compatible with smoke and CO alarm modules that can detect the sounds of your existing smoke and CO alarms going off and alert you via your mobile app.
Flood Sensor- You may be able to prevent major flood damage if you can catch leaks as soon as they happen. Flood sensors, sometimes called water leak detectors, can be placed near the dishwasher, washing machine, sump pump, or any other areas where floods can occur.
Heat Detector- While temperature sensors may be built into smoke alarms, they can be sold as separate devices that alert you of rapidly rising temperatures in your home, which could indicate fires. It is often a good idea to use these in a garage or near the furnace, where emissions tend to set off smoke detectors.
Low-Temperature Sensors- Low Temp Sensors can be set to monitor if the temperature dips below 45 degrees to prevent frozen pipes. These can be placed on exterior walls where the plumbing runs and in the coolest areas in the home that might be vulnerable to sub-freezing temperatures.
Brinks Security Cameras, Appliance Modules, and Smart Locks
Brinks Indoor/Outdoor Cameras- Wireless security cameras allow you to monitor and record what is happening in and outside of your home. Most wireless alarm systems offer a variety of camera options for both indoor or outdoor use. The current standard is 1080P HD resolution which is motion-activated and offers night vision. Cameras are also available with two-way voice capability and some even offer Artificial Intelligence (AI) which can distinguish between persons and objects such as pets.
Micro-SD card- While most cameras offer cloud storage of video clips, (at a price) some cameras come with storage capabilities on micro-SD cards. These are typically purchased separately, gaining up to 64 GB of local storage.
Video Doorbells- Video doorbells integrate a doorbell and a camera into one component. They may operate through the existing doorbell wiring or function as a stand-alone unit with a rechargeable battery. Many of the better systems are motion activated and include 2-way voice to allow you to speak with your guest through the system. If it is incorporated into your wireless alarm system it can be operated from your control panel or directly through your system’s app. These are a popular add-on to enable wireless security system owners to monitor packages dropped off at the front door…esp. during the holiday season.
Appliance and Light Modules- These are separate modules that plug into the existing 110v outlets that enable you to control lighting and small appliances right through your wireless home security system. You can turn lights on and off, start the coffee in the AM, raise the shades and turn on fans right through your app. The best wireless security systems even let you set up rules or scenes which will let you automate a whole series of events when you issue a single command.
Smart Locks- Never worry about placing a spare key under the doormat again. Smart locks can be locked and unlocked remotely. Brinks smart locks can be managed with your wireless home security system so that your doors can lock when your system is armed, ensuring that your home is truly secure when you leave the house. Some systems can even be set up to unlock the smart locks automatically when the system detects that you (and your phone) have driven in the driveway!

ADT has been in the home security industry for over 140 years and is one of the largest and most recognized providers in North America. They offer comprehensive security solutions for both residential and commercial properties, including 24/7 monitoring and professional installation.
In 2010 ADT bought out Broadview Security which was formally Brinks Home Security.
Brinks retained the branding rights and licensed them to MONI Smart Security in 2018. They also offer a range of security products and services, including monitoring, video surveillance, and home automation.
While ADT and Brinks Home Security may compete for customers in the same market, they operate as separate entities with their own unique offerings and business models.
It is important for consumers to research and compare the features, pricing, and customer reviews of different home security companies to determine which one best meets their needs and preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do Brinks Home Security Systems compare with the top competition?
Brinks Home Security is the 2nd largest home security company in the US and has a network of authorized dealers that cover the majority of states. If you want a nationally recognized company with professional installation and are looking for an alternative to ADT, Protection One and Vivint -Brinks is a reasonably good choice…IF you are willing to sign a 3-year contract.
Because installations are handled by local dealers, there is some inconsistency in the customer experience…and, as a result- negative online reviews and feedback regarding their sales and contract renewal practices. We feel that there are a number of better security options offered by our top-rated security companies and those listed in side-by-side comparisons, below.

Brinks Home Security Reviews
Brinks Security vs Vivint
You can get professional installation from either of the companies, although Brinks also offers a DIY option.
However, Vivint uses primarily their own employees, whereas Brinks installations are either DIY or primarily done through their network of 3rd party authorized dealers.
As a result, the experience can vary significantly from one Brinks dealer to the next. As a result, you may come across a number of negative Brinks Security reviews that complain about the installation performance of a local dealer.
You may find that there are discrepancies in Brinks home security systems pricing and equipment selection which is often determined by the local dealer.
Vivint introduced a new Flexpay option in 2017 which enables prospective customers to finance the equipment over 42-60 months with 0% interest. Equipment is purchased separately from the monitoring.
If a customer elects to purchase the equipment outright…there is no monitoring contract required!

Uses for Brinks Alarm System Sensors
Brinks Home Security Reviews Unique Sensor Uses
Brinks Home Security sensors can be used for many other things besides just contacting doors and windows.
Many top-rated home alarm systems can be set up so that specific door or window sensors function as non-reporting devices. With this configuration the magnetic sensors will only activate the chime and send an alert signal through your Brinks Security Systems App -without activating any alarm. The mobile app will let you check out your Brinks Security Cameras right on your smart phone.
Brinks Security Systems -Optional Sensor Applications
Some less traditional sensor uses might be:
- Gun Safe – Mounting a Brinks Home Security sensor on your gun cabinet will provide a second layer of protection. That way, if someone gets into your gun cabinet, you will be notified.
- Liquor and Medicine Cabinets- Your Brinks Home Alarm system can also help with monitoring the contents of your liquor and medicine cabinets.
- Hazardous Materials- Prevent an accidental poisoning. Mount Brinks alarm system contacts on any cabinet that a youngster might be able to reach that might contain harmful or toxic materials.
- Tool Shed- If the tool shed is close enough to the control panel of your Brinks Home Security system, a sensor can be mounted in the tool shed door. You should inquire about special outdoor sensors to deal with extreme temperatures and the elements
- Mailbox- No need to wonder if mail has been delivered. Brinks alarm system door/window sensors can be placed on the mailbox to let you know.
- Pool Gate – Families with young children should be extra careful if they have a swimming pool. An outdoor sensor on the gate can let you know when someone accesses the pool area.
Keep in mind, outdoor applications may require more robust sensors. In addition, mounting on some surfaces can be difficult and you need to be sure the sensor is within range of the Brinks alarm system.

Customizing a Brinks Alarm System.
Things to Consider When Installing a Custom Brinks Home Security system.
Before deciding on how to best customize your Brinks alarm system, make sure that they can provide the equipment you require for a fully customized and cost-effective system. For a truly custom install and to get the most bang for your buck, make sure the system you choose has the versatility and can accommodate the multi-function components described below.
1 The best home security companies offer a full line of “take-over” devices that allow you to upgrade your current security equipment to the most advanced system available. If you are upgrading a system with a fair amount of existing equipment, this is an important consideration.
2 Top alarm companies offer multiple specialized sensor options for your doors and windows include recessed, plunger, and bypass – providing custom solutions for nearly any installation scenario.
3 It is optimal to be able to open and close your garage door with the same keyfob you use for your alarm system. You can also control it with a smartphone thanks to Z-wave products that interface with most garage door brands.
4 Protect your home from frozen and broken water pipes and furnace and air conditioning failure with this multi-purpose sensor. Check to see if multi-function sensors are available with your system.
5 Triple-duty detectors can activate your alarm system when it senses smoke and high and low temperatures.
Brinks Security Response Time
How Much Time Will It Require Brinks Home Security to Respond to an emergency?
While pretty much provider claims to provide the fastest response, it is important to understand the variables that are involved.
Your Brinks Alarm system will typically have a 30-60 second entry delay that will allow you enough time to disarm the alarm system. (The system can also be placed on “Instant” setting whenever everyone is home)The siren goes off after the delay if your system is not disarmed.
The Brinks monitoring center response times tend to be estimated from the time a signal is received to the time the dispatcher contacts the house to verify the signal. These times will usually be less than sixty seconds.
If no one picks up from the household, the monitoring personnel will try to get hold of everyone listed on the emergency call list …and they will then dispatch the authorities. Each step is time-stamped and recorded at the monitoring center.
Although you might find Brinks security reviews with claims of higher than average reaction times, most of the leading security alarm providers do a first-rate job – provided the Brinks home security systems are functioning properly.
Brinks recommends that the system is tested on a weekly, or at least monthly, schedule to make certain the system along with communications are actually operating correctly.
Nationally, the average response time frame by the police is approximately 7 minutes, though, this can vary considerably based on the location of your property, the type of the circumstance, whether there is audio or possibly on-line video validation and the existing demand and also availability of nearby emergency assistance during the time of the call.
In the event you currently have Brinks alarm service and can offer information on their real-world response times, please be sure o mention your experience in our customer Brinks Home Security reviews.
Brinks Home Security- In the News
Brinks Home Security acquires Select Security
December 2020
As reported late December 2020 in Security Infowatch. Brinks Security has added more than 38,000 residential and commercial accounts through the acquisition of Select Security.
“We are excited about the value this transaction creates and its alignment with our core objective of creating profitable accounts at scale and holding for life, while also opening the door for similar opportunities in the future,” Brinks Home Security CEO William Niles said in a statement. “I am also thrilled to welcome the Select Security sales organization, technicians, and customer care employees to the Brinks Home Security family. We are also excited to expand our footprint into the large commercial security segment.”
Patrick Egan founded Select Security in 2003. By 2016, Select Security was established as one of the nation’s largest independently owned electronic security and life safety systems providers.
In 2017, Select Security had purchased all of the U.S.-based accounts from AlarmForce in an $11.5 million deal that nearly doubled Select Security’s customer base- to nearly 30,000.
Brinks Home Extends Partnership with B&D Security
3.23.21 – Brinks Home has announced that it has extended its partnership with B&D Security.
B&D Security is a California-based alarm company with 15 years of experience in the Security and Smart Home industry. The new contract is designed to reduce upfront customer acquisition costs and provide additional incentives for retaining long-term customers. The agreement allows both partners to better align their interests and pursue commercial accounts.
In a quote from Security System News- “Being a dealer for Brinks Home has allowed me to build a business I am proud of,” said Oz Lerma, president, B&D Security. “I am excited to partner with Brinks Home for another five years. Their new leadership team has given us the flexibility to focus on what we are best at and really grow our commercial business.”
Should I include my garage in my Brinks Home Alarm System?
Brinks Garage Security Design
When planning out your home security system, it is a good idea to consider protecting your garage. For some, it might not be in the budget initially,
However, it should be a consideration for long-term planning. In addition to our vehicles, the garage is often home to expensive lawn and garden equipment, tools, sporting goods, snow blower, and generators.
In addition, there are often flammable materials that could start fires.
Top 6 Ways to Enhance Garage Security with a Brinks Home Security System
Outdoor Brinks Security Camera – Keep an eye on who approaches your garage doors and monitor activity. Most outdoor security cameras offer 1080P HD resolution with motion detection and night vision.
Overhead Door Monitors – Always know whether the largest entry is open or closed. Tilt sensors use an inclinometer to detect the angle of the garage door. They send a signal to the control panel whether the overhead garage door is in an open or closed position.
Garage Door Openers – Allow automation and remote management of the overhead doors. With a wireless connection to the main home security system control panel, the doors can be controlled and even automated from the panel or right through the alarms system App.
Indoor Brinks Home Security Camera – Monitor activity within the garage when access is gained. In our household, we have shipments and grocery deliveries inside the garage. With an inside camera, we can keep an eye on things remotely.
Exterior Door Contacts – Keep all vulnerable garage doors protected. Exterior and/or home entranceways should be protected.
Heat Detectors – Not affected by smoke and fumes…a heat detector senses rapid rises of temperature due to fire. This is especially important in homes with an attached garage.
So, if the budget allows…updating or installing a home security system that includes garage door security can be well worth the investment!
Brinks Home Security Response to Covid Concerns
Brinks Security Response to the Coronavirus Pandemic
Brinks has published the following statement regarding its social responsibility.
“In these uncertain times, it’s important that we all do our part to help slow the spread of COVID-19. To protect our customers, employees, and families, we are committed to practicing social distancing, following CDC guidelines for precautionary measures, and complying with all “shelter-in-place” or “safer-at-home” orders.
That’s also why we made the decision in March to suspend door-to-door sales (door-knocking) for our own teams and asked our authorized dealers and partners to do the same. While we resumed these activities, as did our partners, in May, we are all committed to following all local, state, and national orders around COVID-19. We have been in constant contact with our authorized dealers and agents, and asking them to follow the same guidelines we do, as they help us continue to ensure that our customers will have peace of mind and professionally installed, professionally monitored security. If you see someone knocking on doors in your area, or have a question about technicians in your area, please give us a call at 888.758.5900.
In addition to door-to-door sales in applicable areas, we are also still completing installations, repairs, and system upgrades at the specific request of our customers. Our authorized dealers are doing the same. Under the latest guidelines from the Department of Homeland Security and the Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), companies that provide security, fire, and life safety monitoring are considered an “essential service.” Our teams are able to continue providing you with these services, including alarm monitoring by our Alarm Response Center (ARC), because of this designation. You can find more information on the steps we take before we visit your home for an installation, appointment, or repair at brinkshome.com/covid-19.
We want to assure you that our ARC remains fully staffed and fully operational. The professional monitoring you and your families rely on to help keep you safe is there when you need it, 24/7/365.
As we all adjust to the current reality, we are here for you. Whether you need to know how to fix a setting on a camera, want to add a doorbell camera or additional products to your system, or have a customer concern – we want you to know you can reach out to us.”
When it comes to Covid response, security companies that offer professional installation face the challenges of how to handle in-home sales, service, or installation appointments.
We recommend that before letting a Brinks Security representative or technician into your home, contact the Brinks Alarm Co. customer service to determine what steps are currently being taken to protect all parties from the potential of exposure to Covid-19.
The best home security companies have adopted a number of policies to maintain their sales, service, and monitoring standards while ensuring the safety of both their employees and customers.
- To combat Covid in the workplace many companies have shifted a large percentage of their employees to remote operations. They provide secure laptops for remote workers to ensure privacy.
- The best alarm companies have multiple monitoring centers. In the event of a major outbreak, calls can be re-routed to another facility.
- Customer-facing employees should be issued additional cleaning supplies, protective masks, and protective tools. Additionally, best practices for home security companies should ensure that clients are contacted prior to an appointment to make sure that they can provide a safe work environment.
- Additionally, during the pandemic, many companies will encourage customers to reschedule if they are uncomfortable receiving sales, service, or installation personnel in their homes.
During the Covid 19 health emergency, it is critical that everyone works together to ensure the safety of both security company employees and customers.

Brinks Alarm System Design
Tips for Designing Brinks Security Systems
Perimeter Protection – The top priority when setting up a Brinks Alarm system is protecting the perimeter of your property. On top of installing contacts on the doors and mounting sensors on vulnerable windows, it is a good idea to try to discourage any local thieves from targeting your home. By placing yard signs, window stickers and outdoor Brinks Security cameras where they are readily visible, you will let everyone know that your home is well fortified.
Interior Protection – A good Brinks home alarm system will also provide a second line of defense. This is so you can to detect an intruder if they are able to bypass the perimeter protection. Motions should be mounted to maximize coverage. It is ideal if you can set up an extra keypad in the master bedroom, as well. Indoor Brinks Home Security cameras can be monitored on some keypads and it will also let you activate panic alerts more easily.
Asset Protection- Your Brinks home alarm system also lets you set up “non-reporting” sensors. If you configure them this way, they will not set off the siren or send a signal to the monitoring center. Instead, they will only notify you discreetly through your Brinks Security App. Many Brinks customers use sensors on gun cabinets, medicine or liquor cabinets or office doors.
Environmental Protection – Your Brinks Alarm System can also be set up to monitor environmental hazards such as fire, carbon monoxide, flooding, or freezing. There are specific Brinks Security sensors for each of these applications.
Home Automation- Brinks Security systems can provide you with a central hub that enables you to control lighting, cameras, heat and air conditioning, doors, and garage door openers. Make sure that the company you select can accommodate home automation equipment you already own. You may find that the system can’t control the expensive Skylin slim-line video doorbell that you already purchased….
If this is the case, you can operate it independently, or you may elect to purchase one from your security company so that it can all be controlled wit one App.
A Brinks home alarm system can control virtually any home automation function right from your smartphone on the Brinks Security App.

Things to consider when choosing a Brinks Home Security alarm panel.

Many companies offer multiple options regarding the central control panel that will serve as the hub of your entire home security system. When considering a Brinks Alarm System, make sure you look into the following features.

- Aesthetic and UI – Today’s panels should be sleeker and more modern, with capacitive touch screen controls.
- 2-Way Voice – Industry-leading panels offer 2-way voice capability that allows direct communication with the CMS when an alarm is triggered.
- Z-Wave Plus – This is a new-and-improved protocol, allowing home-automation products to have more battery power, higher functionality, longer range, and many more benefits over the original Z-Wave protocol
- Alarm App – Make sure that the security and home automation platform seamlessly integrates the entire system and enables remote management, observation, and control, from your smartphone, computer, or tablet with an internet connection. You can check Apple App Store or Google Play for ratings.

The Brinks Home Security program is a SCAM. I called with a wireless key problem The tech department created a big problem with my system Not enough space to explain. Find out that there is a $200.00 charge to have a tech come and correct the problem Oh! it did take 17 days before a tech and charged me $50.00 for the call. I did not cause. Then to CANCEL I am required to pay $2000.00 I supposedly agreed to a 4 year contract. I am STRESSED to the max with this company, staff have no respect for their customers and are ignorant to our needs. I am a senior and need security that I am paying for, but I am not receiving. I want to CANCEL my Brinks alarm service as soon as possible but I don’t have $2000.00. I feel elder abuse and a BIG SCAM is taking place by this company I may not live for another 4 years but I need to be stressed 24/7. I do not feel safe HOW CAN I CANCEL??????

I purchased live watch security with live monitoring in 2018. Since then it went to Brinks which we had trouble with the smoke alarm from day one after years of false alarms and fire dept runs we had decided to take the alarm off line. The customer service was awful on the numerous calls to them to try to get the alarm to work. Finally I was so fed up I have decided to cancel. Called and spoke with Mauricio which was very very rude. Said I can’t cause I was under contract. “I have never had any contract with brinks only live watch for 2 years which had since long expired”. Well I guess to court we will go so they can show me where I signed any agreement with them.

We are so upset with Brinks horrible company to deal with. Our security system has not worked since day 1 and it is a constant battle to deal with…we are so stressed out as they refuse to work with us to get the system working …they are demanding we pay for a service calls…We have tried over the phone they keep sending our sensors that do not work. Our garage sensor every time we get a wind the garage doors would not stop sending notices as if they are open so they had to be taken down…. Tried to get us to pay duty on the sensors as coming from the US. They were supposed to give us a longer wire for the back camera as it is stretched and is pulled too tight never happened. All this even though our system was not working and reported within the time frame. Our door bell is still not working and was fine before they installed . Run from anything to do with BRINKS…
I am a Brink’s security since 2014. I have not had good service since they rebranded.
