Alert 360 Home Security

Despite having re-branded a few times over the years, Alert 360 still maintains an A+ BBB rating.

However, their rather limited service area combined with somewhat inconsistent dealer performance and the prospect of a 3-year monitoring agreement means that one should carefully scrutinize the contract and investigate the local dealer before making a decision.

Online Central Security Group Reviews reveal many concerns with the length of the contract and early termination fees.

Alert 360 Home Security

Reputation and Credibility

Headquartered in Tulsa Oklahoma, Alert 360 was founded as Security by Guardian in 1973. They later rebranded as Central Security Group…and ultimately changed the name to Alert 360 in 2018.

They  have grown to become the #10 ranked home security company on the SDM Top 100, and currently protects about 300,000 homes, families and businesses They enjoy an A+ BBB rating .

There have been 211 customer complaints filed with The Better Business Bureau in the past 3 years. Online reviews are very mixed with many complaints about misrepresentation of contractual commitments and auto-renewal clauses.

They appear to have done a commendable job of addressing online customer complaints, after the fact, to mitigate the impact of negative online Alert 360 reviews. A savvy social media manager clearly understands the importance of social media reputation damage control….

Still…there are those that question why it becomes necessary to lodge complaints to gain customer satisfaction.

To address the issues, they seem to have recently implemented the use of a “No Secrets” document that highlights the important contract elements in plain terms.

Alert 360 Monitoring

Alert 360 Security operates their own  UL Listed, Five Diamond Certified monitoring station. They offer  24/7 protection against intrusion, medical and personal safety, fire and environmental hazards and 2-way voice monitoring on select monitoring packages.

A full range of  monitoring services is offered – from basic home security over a landline to fully integrated energy management and home automation packages.  Monitoring rates are not disclosed online but likely run from about $40-$60 for interactive monitoring.

They advertise rates starting at $15.95….but, this is doubtless a takeover rate for existing  systems.

Alert 360 Packages

Alert 360 Sales Process

One of our major concerns is the lack of transparency of the website.  In order to get pricing, you need to reside within the service area and get a quote from a salesperson.  Depending on the situation, this may mean that it is necessary to schedule an in-home appointment.  This could be a company rep or an authorized dealer that services your location.

Some people may not be comfortable with the possibility of having to deal with aggressive salespersons or high pressure sales tactics.

Whatever the case, make sure that you clearly understand your contractual obligations before making any decisions.

Alert 360 Alarms – Pricing and Equipment

The home security systems are  professionally installed by Alert 360 and certified local authorized dealers. The standard equipment package for most security companies is typically a basic Control Panel with 3 door/ window sensors and a motion detector for $99 installed. Pricing is not disclosed, so that is just a guideline.

Additional equipment that can be can be purchased:Alert 360 Conrol Panel -2Gig

  • Color Touchscreen
  • Motion Sensor
  • Keyfob
  • Carbon Monoxide Detector
  • Medical Pendant
  • Heat Communicator
  • Smoke Communicator
  • Glass Break Detector
  • Micro Door/Window Sensor
  • Low Temperature Sensor
  • Pan and Tilt Camera
  • Standard Indoor Camera
  • Outdoor Camera
  • Doorbell Camera

While basic package prices are fairly competitive with other national companies, add-ons can get pricey. Pricing is often dictated by the local authorized dealer, so there can be significant differences between price quotations.

Customer Service

Customer experience is generally positive, and they maintain an A+ BBB rating.  However, a casual search of customer feedback on Yelp, review sites and forums reveal a significant number of customer complaints involving sale misrepresentations, 3-Year relocation contract extensions and auto renewal clauses.

One unique feature of their program is that they offer up to $1360 homeowners insurance reimbursement if the system fails to protect the home in a break in.

Alert 360 Review Summary

Alert 360 home security systems are available in 26 states across southern and middle American states.  However, their company installed and serviced areas are limited TX, OK, CA, FL, MO and KS. Other areas are services by authorized dealers.

If there is a possibility of relocation outside of their limited service area, you should consider a recognized national provider.

While they certify the individual dealers to help ensure a quality customer experience,  the service experience may vary significantly depending on the caliber of the independent dealer in your area. Be sure to carefully investigate the reputation of the local dealers in your area.

Overall, they offer quality equipment and services at competitive rates. However, their online reputation under Central Security Group is questionable.  Central Security Group reviews on Consumer Affairs reflect an average of just over 1 out of 5 stars.

Central Security Group Ratings

To their credit, they do seem to respond once complaints have been lodged with the BBB or prominent social media and review sites…but, the fact that it came to that says something.

Make sure that you scrutinize contacts carefully, before signing on the dotted line. We recommend that you research the local dealer carefully, and explore our top alarm companies before making any long-term commitment.

Alert 360 Security has a published policy statement on its website detailing what steps they are taking to protect against Covid-19.

Having a published Covid-19 statement helps to reassure potential customers during the pandemic.  This is especially important, as many people are choosing to di it themselves and install the Best DIY home security systems because they are concerned about face to face sales, service, or installation interactions.

Consequently, it is important for traditional home security companies to publish their policies for maintaining their sales, service, and monitoring standards and outline what steps they are taking to ensure the safety of both their employees and customers. In doi8ng so they let customers know that they have a solid plan to be able to continue to operate in the midst of the ongoing health crisis.

Alert 360 Alarm Design

Central Security Group Reviews – Designing Alert 360 Security Systems

Central Security Group Reviews - Designing Your Alert 360 Security System

Perimeter Protection –A good home protection system starts by installing contacts on the doors and sensors on vulnerable windows. You also want to make sure to place yard signs, window stickers, and outdoor Alert 360 security cameras in highly visible locations.  This will help to deter potential thieves and make them think twice about trying to break into your house.

Interior Protection – An alarm system installed by the Central Security Group should also include a second line of defense. This will allow you to catch a prowler if they gain entry through an unprotected door or window.  Motion sensors should be installed in high traffic areas and/or areas with high-value items.

Asset Protection- Many alarm systems also let you set up specific sensors as “non-reporting”. These sensors will not set off the siren or send a signal to the monitoring center. However, they will notify you discreetly through your Alert 360 App on your smartphone.   Gun cabinets, medicine or liquor cabinets, and office doors might be a place to configure non-reporting sensors.

Environmental Protection – Your Central Security Group Alarm System can also monitor a variety of environmental hazards such as fire, carbon monoxide, flooding or freezing.  There are specific alarm sensors for each of these functions.

Home Automation- Central Security Group dealers can install equipment that will help you to manage almost any home automation function. The Alert 360 system can control lighting, cameras, heat and air conditioning, doors and garage door openers right from your smartphone through the Alert 360  App.

Customizing Your Alert 360 Alarm

Things to Look Into Before Having a Custom Alert 360 Alarm System Installed

Before deciding on how to best customize your Alert 360 security system, make sure that they can provide the equipment you require for a fully customized and cost-effective system. For a truly custom install that gives you the most bang for your buck, make sure the system you choose has the necessary versatility and can accommodate the multi-function components described below.

5 Considerations for Customizing Your Alert 360 Home Security System

1            The best home security companies offer a full line of “take-over” devices that allow you to upgrade your current security equipment to the most advanced system available. If you are upgrading a system with a fair amount of existing equipment, this is an important consideration.

2            Top alarm companies offer multiple specialized sensor options for your doors and windows include recessed, plunger, and bypass –  providing custom solutions for nearly any installation scenario.

3            It is optimal to be able to open and close your garage door with the same keyfob you use for your alarm system. You can also control it with a smartphone thanks to  Z-wave products that interface with most garage door brands.

4            Protect your home from frozen and broken water pipes and furnace and air conditioning failure with this multi-purpose sensor. Check to see if multi-function sensors are available with your system.

5            Triple-duty detectors can activate your alarm system when it senses smoke and high and low temperatures.

Arming Options

Central Security Group  – Arming Modes

Whether you have a legacy Central Security Group or Alert 360  security system, your system should be capable of the following arming modes:

OFF – Even if the system is not armed, many of the sensors and features of the Alert 360 Security system are still active.  Your Central Security Group home security system will still chime to let you know when a window or door that is equipped with a sensor has been opened. Life and environmental safety systems are also active 24/7. So, the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors will set off the alarm whether the system is armed or not.

Stay–  You can arm just the perimeter protection at the doors and windows by arming your Alert 360 or Central Security Group Alarm system in the “stay” mode.  T

Away–  The away mode will turn on any interior motion detectors as well as the doors and windows.

Instant – You can eliminate the entry delay on your Alert 360 Home security system by arming it in instant mode.

Duress –  A special duress code that will notify the monitoring center that there is a potential hostage situation. In the event that someone were to force you to disarm the system, this special code will trigger an immediate emergency response.

Panic –  The system is also equipped with emergency panic buttons for Police, Fire, or Medical.

Should I include the gararge in my Alert 360 security system?

Advantages of Including the Garage in Your Alert 360 Alarm System

One of the most overlooked areas when setting up a security system is the garage.

While it may not be the first priority, with the advent of cost-effective wireless home automation many homeowners are electing to add security to the garage.

After all, in addition to the vehicles, the garage is often home to expensive tools, sporting equipment, as well as lawn and garden care equipment.

In addition, it is a good idea to include fire protection. Garage storage often includes gasoline, propane, paint, thinners, and lots of flammable objects.

But, do I need to pay for monitoring?

If you already have a monitored Alert 360 system, it won’t likely cost anymore.  You will just need to pay a bit more for upfront equipment costs.  Because the equipment is professionally installed, it will likely cost a bit more than DIY-But there are some advantages.

Top  6 Ways to Enhance Garage Security with an Alert 360 Home Alarm System

Outdoor Alert 360 Camera – Keep an eye on who approaches your garage doors and monitor activity. Most outdoor security cameras offer 1080P HD resolution with motion detection and night vision.

Overhead Door Monitors – Always know whether the largest entry is open or closed. Tilt sensors use an inclinometer to detect the angle of the garage door. They send a signal to the control panel whether the overhead garage door is in an open or closed position.

Garage Door Openers – Allow automation and remote management of the overhead doors. With a wireless connection to the main home security system control panel, the doors can be controlled and even automated from the panel or right through the alarms system App.

Indoor Alert 360 Cameras – Monitor activity within the garage when access is gained. If you have shipments and grocery deliveries inside the garage an inside camera will help you keep an eye on things remotely.

Exterior Door Contacts – Keep all vulnerable garage doors protected. Exterior and/or home entranceways should be protected.

Heat Detectors – Not affected by smoke and fumes…a heat detector senses rapid rises of temperature due to fire.  This is especially important in homes with an attached garage.

Does an Alert 360 Alarm require a permit?

Alert 360 Reviews reveal that Central Security Group and Alert 360 systems require permits

One issue rarely brought up in Alert 360 reviews is permit requirements.

When an alarm system is being monitored – police, fire, or rescue services may be dispatched. Consequently, many local municipalities will require a permit.

In most cases, your local police or sheriff’s department will assess a nominal fee.

You will likely also be required to provide the name, address, and phone number of the monitoring center.

Some cities may also require an annual renewal as well. In municipalities with high crime and false alarm rates, failure to register your alarm system can result in a refusal to respond …although this is fairly rare.

However, you may be subject to additional fines if police, fire, or emergency medical services are dispatched to a location without a permit.

Even when a permit is obtained, most communities will assess fines for multiple false alarms. Most communities have policies in place in which the first 1 or 2 dispatches do not involve fines.  After that fines typically escalate from $25-50 for the first enforceable offense…to $100-200 for subsequent repeat offenses.

In summation, it is very important that alarm system owners contact their local police department, find out what permits are required, and make sure they take the necessary steps to prevent false alarms.

Alert 360 False Alarm Prevention Tips

Avoiding false alarms with your Alert 360 / Central Security Group Security System.

Alert Security Reviews recommended False Alarm Prevention Steps

Central Security Group system false alarms could result in fines and unnecessary dispatches of first responders. While you would not be fined by Alert 360, local municipalities will likely assess penalties and fines for recurring false alarms.

The reality is that false alarms cause the majority of calls fielded by police and fire departments.  For that reason, most municipalities will fine alarm system owners whenever they go beyond a specified number of false alarms.

To prevent this, this Alert 360 review includes some ideas to avoid a false alarm with your Central Security Group system:

Alert 360 Reviews – Tips to Avoid False Alarms with Your Alert 360 Alarm System

Alert 360 Reviews - Tips to Avoid False Alarms with Your Alert 360 Alarm System

• Ensure that all users know how to disarm the alarm system. Your alarm system will have a master passcode, as well as secondary codes for each user. Be sure that everyone knows their code and learns how to disarm the alarm system.

• Make sure that everyone knows the password. When the monitoring center calls, they will ask for the password to ensure that the respondent is an authorized user. The authorities will be dispatched if the user can’t provide the proper password.

• Be sure that windows and doors are firmly shut before arming the system. A door that has been left even a little bit ajar may very well be blown open in your absence and set off the alarm.

• Confirm that all sensors are set up properly. Motion detectors should be set at a height of six feet.  They should be placed clear of fans, heating elements, fireplace, and air conditioning systems.

• Take into account things that set off a motion detector. It’s not just the pets. Air-conditioning units could potentially cause fluttering draperies or plants. Even helium balloons can set off an alarm-as they might be carried throughout the home as a result of air currents. Make sure they are tied down far from motions.

• Ideally, pets should be restricted to areas away from the motion detectors. If that is not possible, many companies offer “pet-friendly” or “pet immune” sensors which could screen out smaller pets under 40, 50 even 80 lbs.  Pet alleys can be set up with motion detectors. Another option is to use glass break sensors rather than motions.

• Make sure that batteries are replaced when necessary.  They generally have at very least a two year estimated life expectancy. Your Alert 360 system or Alert 360 Security App will notify you when the batteries are getting low.

It is a good idea to store your Alert 360 Security manuals/codes/passwords in a safe designated location in which they can be checked if required.

Keep in mind, the ideal way to avert false alarms is by using your Central Security Group system on a consistent basis and be sure that everybody is familiar with how to operate the system.

Some panels, like the 2GIG GC2e, are also backward compatible with prior generations.
  2. Aesthetic and UI – Today’s panels should be sleeker and more modern, with capacitive touch screen controls.
  3. 2-Way Voice – Industry-leading panels offer 2-way voice capability that allows direct communication with the CMS when an alarm is triggered.
  4. Z-Wave Plus – This is a new-and-improved protocol, allowing home-automation products to have more battery power, higher functionality, longer range, and many more benefits over the original Z-Wave protocol
  5. Alarm App – Make sure that the security and home automation platform seamlessly integrates the entire system and enables remote management, observation, and control, from your smartphone, computer, or tablet with an internet connection. You can check Apple App Store or Google Play for ratings.

Do it yourself as opposed to expert installation?

One of the primary considerations in selecting the best home security system for you is whether you wish to install the unit on your own or pay for an expert installation.

Benefits of DIY Install over Alert 360 Professional Install

  • Save $$$– Installing a DIY alarm can be far more cost-effective than a professionally installed Alert 360 Alarm System.
  • No Contracts –  Central Security Group systems will require a 3-year contract. Many DIY security companies, such as Frontpoint are now month to month.
  • No Waiting– With Alert 360 home security, you will have to schedule an installation appointment. For most people, that involves taking time off from work. With a pre-programmed wireless alarm system, customers can typically install their own system in under an hour.
  • Better System Familiarity– Those who install their own systems are more involved with the process. Consequently, become more familiar with all the features and functionality of their systems.
  • Portability– A wireless DIY alarm is simple to relocate. If you are moving, be sure to notify the service provider of the changes, and reinstall at your new location. An Alert 360 security system may not even be available in some areas. In addition, the Central Security Group may charge you additional fees to re-install.
  • Better Privacy – While Alert 360 Home Security takes great care in hiring technicians, exercise caution and make sure that your technician has been properly vetted, background checked and drug tested.  With a DIY wireless system, there is no need to let strangers in your home and provide them with sensitive information.

Advantages of Alert 360 Professional Set-Up

Reasons to have an alarm system professionally installed might be:

• Less Time and effort.
• Somewhat more Expertise

Despite the fact that an expertly installed system might require a bit less effort, the vast majority found that the components offered from the best do it yourself alarm system companies ended up being very easy to put in, easy to use, and even ended up saving these folks a significant figure compared to a professionally installed system.

In the event you select professional installation, you may want to consider an alternative company such as ADT Home Security.

Generally, Alert 360 reviews are pretty favorable when it comes to the installation. However, it is always a best practice to check to see whether they have been background checked and also undergone a drug screening process. Ask whether or not the company has its own employees or just utilizes Third-party subcontractors.

Using subcontractors isn’t always bad. (they can even possess more expertise when compared with company personnel) Nonetheless, be sure they should have actually completed a thorough screening before letting them into your home.
