Alder Security Reviews –  Is Alder Home Security a scam?

Alder Security Reviews

Is Alder Security Security a scam?  No…they are for real, but, before signing a long-term contract for Alder security systems, make sure you read the fine print and check out our Alder Security reviews.

Who is Alder Home Security?

Alder  Security is a home security systems marketing company that operates in various regions around the country. They have a highly compensated, commission-based legion of door-to-door sales representatives. Founded in 2008, they have grown dramatically with this aggressive sales strategy…but, the Alder Security BBB rating has dropped to a rather dismal  B- rating as a result.

Alder Security Involved in Government Action and Suits for Deceptive Sales Tactics

They were recently sued successfully by ADT for deceptive sales practices and unfair competition.  Hundreds of ADT customers were misled by Alder sales representatives posing as ADT reps “upgrading” existing ADT systems. They were actually switching  ADT customers over to long-term Alder contracts. As reported in Security System News, they were found guilty and liable for $4M in losses and punitive damages.  See the full article.

Alder Lawsuit-ADT

Additionally, the Alder alarm company has also been involved in substantial Government Action litigation.  Check out the Alder Security BBB profile for details.

Alder Security Violated FCRA

As reported in SSI…

“On Dec. 11, 2020, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Arkansas Attorney General settled with Alder Holdings, resolving allegations that Alder failed to provide proper notices under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

The Utah-based home security company had to pay a $600,000 civil money penalty for not giving consumers notice when it provided less favorable credit terms based on a review of their credit reports —also known as risk-based pricing.

The complaint alleged that Alder, in extending credit to its customers for its home alarm products and services, charged customers who had lower credit scores higher activation fees, but failed to provide those customers with the required risk-based pricing notice, according to a release from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Alder is also currently involved in related litigation with the State of Arkansas in Arkansas state court. Under the terms of the settlement, if Alder agrees to pay $100,000 to settle the related state-court litigation, that amount will be offset from the $600,000 civil penalty in the risk-based pricing case.”

Caveat Emptor

If they have come knocking on your door…we highly recommend that you get all the details in writing, exercise caution and do your due diligence before making a decision and signing on the dotted line.

While they are not a scam, online Alder Security reviews cite many instances of misrepresentation and deceptive sales practices. This is not uncommon in door-to-door marketing companies where it is difficult to monitor unscrupulous or perhaps just overzealous sales personnel.

Alder Security

Loving my new cameras! It is amazing how being able to see all around the perimeters can make you feel comfortable. If someone is walking up the red and blue lights can come on letting them know up front to GIT!! Love it Also if you have any issues they will assist you immediately. Techs are friendly and knowledgeable
What can I say? The alarms in both my homes go off for no reason. We feel so horrible every time the fire department and/or police show up, despite us having spoken to Alders and informed them its their equipment and not to send anyone. Always the run around and excuses with this company. One doorbell camera has never worked correctly, the other the technician left without getting it to hook up and so it has never worked. Contacted Alders numerous times. Contacted them today to cancel and like most of you was shocked to find even though their equipment doesn't work properly you can't cancel without paying outrageous fees. So, today "Blossom" the "Accounts Manager " says they can upgrade my panels as they are old equipment (installed 2018) to see if that helps, only to get a text the technical is coming tomorrow only to look at what I have not install updated equipment. So I called back and asked specifically for Blossom. Now she's saying "if" the equipment needs an upgrade he'll change it. So she lied. And, no I don't want to talk to anymore outsourced foreign customer service reps. So frustrated right now! Alders used to be a good company but now their highest rating is 2.9 and that's on their own website. And, they had the audacity to raise their rates last year. For what? I'm stuck with equipment you admit is outdated. Clearly it's not being passed on to your customers. Sad.
Huge mistake signing up with them. The sales guy was very deceiving and effectively told us whatever we needed to hear to get our signature. He said we can cancel anytime, but he failed to mention that it has to be within the first 30 days. He did what he had to do to get the sale - took advantage of some recent crime that was happening in the neighborhood and found some vulnerable people. Disappointing…

When we were moving houses, I called to ask how to handle the security system. They said something along the lines of - you can uninstall it and reinstall it at your new residence for no additional charge. Crazy. I have friends that are paying 20% of what we were paying and they have a better system. The app is slow if it works at all. It’s expensive. Would not recommend. I feel like I got scammed out of $2500 to get out of this contract.
After signing up for new internet service, I was transferred for a promotion with Alder. It was the most unpleasant call I've ever been on. The Sales rep tried to suggest that my wife is unsafe at home because burglars will break in and harm her - it's only a matter of time and I better buy the equipment he's trying to sell me. I prompted him 3 times that I need to go due to a busy workday and he ignored it. I was polite toward him. He was rude and very pushy toward me. I would suggest that nobody do business with Alder and/or you clean up your sales tactics and/or improve training for the worst sales person I have ever encountered.
The alarm at my parent’s home needed a reset. Julio was incredible. He was patient and kind. He walked me through the steps and we are very appreciative! Great Service!

Alder Security Review – 2024 Alder Alarm System Summary

Reputation and Credibility

Alder Security is a Utah-based home security company that has been around for over 10 years.

their home security systems are DIY and available in all 50 states. Professional installation is available in most areas at an additional cost.

In many areas, teams of seasonal commissioned “door knockers” and installers are deployed to penetrate a market.

This aggressive sales strategy can result in a slew of potential service issues and customer frustration. It likely contributes to Alder’s history of a somewhat lackluster B- BBB rating which has been downgraded to a C BBB rating in 2021.  The BBB report list 1,366 complaints closed in the last 3 years and 541 complaints closed in last 12 months

The Alder website is extremely vague and provides little information.  Other than some generic security statistics and a general overview of typical equipment, it offers almost no specifics on personnel screening practices, monitoring center credentials, warranties, guarantees and provides absolutely NO transparency for equipment or monitoring rates.

Consequently,  it is nearly impossible for consumers to research and compare without calling in or setting up an in-home consultation with sales personnel. Additionally, prospective customers must rely on verbal assurances from part-time reps regarding policies instead of published information.

Alder reps are equipped with tablets and require only an electronic signature…making it sometimes difficult for a potential customer to adequately review the terms and conditions of the contract that they are signing. Promotions and incentives often serve as inducements for 60 month contracts…so be sure that you understand the terms of the contract.

Aside from some very basic information about their systems and available monitoring features….details about virtually any aspect of the company are nowhere to be found on the website.  This does little to inspire confidence…

Alder Alarm Monitoring

Alder Home Security does offer 24/7 professional monitoring and claims to offer fast response times, they fail to disclose what company is actually monitoring the accounts or what their credentials are.

Ideally, one should be looking for fully redundant UL-Listed, Five Diamond CSAA Certified monitoring centers.

Unlike most security companies,  Alder Security may require a 5-year monitoring contract for some promotions and/or services. In addition, there are many negative online Alder Security reviews with complaints of Auto-Renewal clauses.

Their rates start at $34.95/mo. and increase based on the required services that include:

Alder Home Security Monitoring Features

  • 2-Way Voice Monitoring
  • Cellular Monitoring
  • Interactive Features

Alder Security App

The Alder Security App provides the platform for interactive features and home surveillance. This app gives you control over the security system and home automation functions remotely and allows you to receive event notifications and observe video on your iOS, Android, and Windows devices…as well as through a standard web browser.

The Alder APP received a 2.8 rating on the APP Store and a 3.8 rating on Google Play in 2020. The ratings for their Apps slipped down to the current ratings of:

  • App Store = 2.7
  • Google Play = 3.1

This slide in ratings may have been a result of issues with integrating the Kami and Yi camera offerings.  Previously, these were only managed through their individual apps.

Alder Alarm Monitoring Prices

Alder Security monitoring packages are not published and require a call from a sales rep or an in-home consultation for specifics.

Monthly rates are estimated at $34.99 and up based on the equipment and services.

Alder Alarm System Equipment Pricing

Alder Security does not list equipment pricing on the website, making it difficult for consumers to compare equipment pricing.  They do provide a touchscreen system-but it is not clear whether this is their standard offering or an upgrade.

Pricing information is provided during a sales call or an in-home consultation.  Aside from the fact that this requires the prospective customer to take an hour and a half out of the day….it can result in potentially high-pressure sales tactics often used by temporary seasonal commissioned sales personnel.

Alder claims minimal upfront costs.

Add-on equipment costs may be rolled into the monthly cost and/or extend the length of the contract.

Alder Customer Service

Online feedback is mixed at best…with over 1300 BBB complaints filed over the last 3 years.

Complaints range from misrepresentation, service issues, taking advantage of the elderly, failure to inform customers of the 5-year contract term, or the automatic annual renewal clause.

There is no 6 Month service guarantee (certain restrictions apply) such as offered with an ADT Monitored Security System.…or 14 day trial period such as that offered by Frontpoint Security.

Alder Security does not publish the terms of the contract, warranty provisions, or guarantee details.

Online Alder reviews frequently claim excessive hold times, well in excess of 15 minutes,  when it comes to customer service and billing issues.

Alder Security Review Summary – Not a scam…but, Buyer Beware

The Alder Security sales representative that comes knocking on the door will likely tell you that your home has been chosen for a free system to increase visibility in your neighborhood and serve as a way to advertise their name.  S/he may seem very sincere when explaining that this is a limited-time opportunity…available to only a select few.

In reality, these are outdated, manipulative sales techniques are nothing more than a ploy to create a sense of urgency and dupe trusting individuals into making a snap decision before they can do their due diligence.

Or…some even less scrupulous individuals have been known to claim that they represent your existing alarm company and are there to “update” your equipment. Unwary, trusting individuals have “signed for the equipment” on a tablet, unwittingly signing a contract for 3-5 years of service.

That is why all “in-home” sales are protected by a 3 day right of rescission.  Don’t be afraid to exercise that right if you feel you have acted hastily.  (they are trained to close the sale and employ any number of tactics)

Keep in mind…while it is certainly important to be concerned with home safety, Alder Security may require up to a 60 Month contract.

After the 3-day “cooling off period”, if you want to cancel the Alder Home Security contract, it will involve a substantial cancellation fee.

And aside from their shady sales practices, the fact that the website is so vague and lacks transparency is another red flag.

While they do offer a free in-home consultation with an Alder Security salesperson, many consumers may be uncomfortable about having to schedule an appointment with sales personnel.

If you don’t want a high-pressure in-home sales pitch or a 60-month contract …and prefer more transparency, you may be better served by investigating alternatives offered by our Top Alarm Companies.

Alder Security Review – 2023 Alder Alarm System Summary

Alder Security Reviews - Video Summary

Alder Home Protection Review – Video Summary

YouTube video

Alder Home Security Review - Video Transcript

If an Alder security salesman has come knocking on your door, you definitely want to do your due diligence before signing anything.

Alder security was founded in 2008. They employ a legion of door-to-door summer sales teams to peddle their systems across populated areas around the country. They have a dismal B-minus Better Business Bureau rating and online Alder security reviews indicate the many issues with sales misrepresentation, contract length. auto-renewals, service, and poor customer service.

They were recently successfully sued by ADT for deceptive sales practices and have been involved in two recent government action suits.

One of the most common complaints is that Alder home protection sometimes requires a 60-month monitoring contract with automatic contract renewals for their monitoring services.

Their monitoring rates start at $35 a month with higher prices based on the services provided and require a three-to-five-year contract.

When it comes to Alder equipment and monitoring pricing there’s virtually no online transparency. You’ll have to speak to an alder salesman or schedule an in-home appointment to get pricing.

To summarize… no matter what the Alder Home door-to-door rep tells you, they’re trying to lock you into a three-to-five-year contract. There are scores of online customer complaints about poor service misrepresentation lengthy contracts billing and Auto-renewal clauses.

Before signing on the dotted line with Alder Home protection, make sure that you examine the contract closely and get everything in writing. Don’t let yourself be pressured into the sale before comparing with one or two of our top-rated companies.

Available Equipment Options

Alder Home Security – Common Sensors and Components

Alder alarm systems can accommodate a comprehensive selection of components. This will enable you to customize your systems to fit your needs and budget.

The great thing is that most systems are fully expandable.  You can start with a basic Alder Security system and build upon it when your needs change and/or your budget allows.

Following is a list of the major common components.  We have included the more basic sensors that are often included in a starter wireless home security package, as well as a variety of sensors that you might want to add to a more comprehensive customized system.

The Basic Wireless Home Security Package

The Control Panel Hub

While some systems come with a separate base unit and keypad, the majority will integrate the two. You still find very basic units with pushbutton controls, but most will offer a touchscreen display. Even the basic Alder Security system package contains a pushbutton keypad, but additional touchscreen panels are available.

Touchscreen Panel – Most top wireless systems come with some form of touchscreen panel where you can arm and disarm your system and manage any connected devices. The panels can be mounted on the wall or set up with a desktop display mount. Many will have an internal cellular antenna that can function as a primary or backup means of communication.

Cellular Communicator – Sometimes the cellular communicator may be a device all on its own. It can be used, in some cases, to keep connected to the app as well as the monitoring center. The advantage of a cellular connection is that it stays on in a power outage and can’t be cut, unlike regular phone lines and cable.

Window/Door Sensors – Otherwise known as contact or entry sensors. Each sensor is two parts, one that goes on the door or window frame, and one that goes on the door or window itself. One is a magnet and one is a transmitter.  When the magnetic field between the two is broken,  a signal is sent to the main unit. It is usually recommended to place sensors on all doors and the most vulnerable windows on the main floor.

Motion Sensors- Motion sensors detect movement inside the house.  They typically screen out smaller objects (below 40 lbs.) and can be placed in larger common areas in the home where an intruder might pass.

Glass Break Sensors- Glass break sensors, as the name implies, can detect the sounds of glass breaking, as intruders will often break windows to gain entry.  They are not typically included in basic packages, but can sometimes be swapped out and often used instead of motion detectors when there are larger pets in the home.

Keypad- Keypads are used to enter passcodes to arm and disarm your system. In many systems, they are integrated into the main hub. They should be placed on the wall or near where you most commonly enter and exit your home. Secondary optional wireless keypads can be placed in master bedrooms or other areas where one might want to arm or disarm the system

Panic button- Panic buttons are often included on the main keypad.  They can immediately alert the monitoring station of an occupied medical, fire, or personal threat or emergency.  There are also separate wireless buttons or pendants available which can be activated anywhere with range of the base unit

Key Fob- Often referred to as keychain remotes, key fobs work with most wireless security systems so that you can arm and disarm them even away from the keypad. Some key fobs can also include a panic alert feature.

Yard Sign- Yard signs can serve as a deterrent. They alert anyone that the home is protected by an Alder home alarm system. While some people argue that this will ward off would-be intruders, others argue that they may provide insights as to the age and make of the systems to a savvy criminal. Realistically, they are more likely going to move on to easier targets.

Window Stickers- The same arguments arise when it comes to window stickers. Some experts suggest that it might make sense to use signs and stickers from a different company if you are concerned.

Siren- The majority of security system touch screen panels or base stations have sirens built-in. We recommend sirens of at least 85 decibels. Auxiliary sirens are typically available for larger homes or systems which don’t have built-in sirens

Environmental Sensors

Top wireless alarm companies provide equipment that will allow you to monitor a variety of potential threats within your home. Typically, each of the components below can be integrated seamlessly into the system and monitored right through the system’s app.

Smoke Detector- In the event of a fire, a wireless smoke detector will automatically send a signal to the central monitoring station if no one is home or if they are unable to get to the phone. Many of them also incorporate a rate-of-rise heat sensor which can detect rapid increases in temperature. This is helpful in extreme temperatures if cooling systems fail, or if there is a flash fire that doesn’t have a lot of smoldering smoke.

CO Sensor – Carbon monoxide is a tasteless, colorless, and odorless gas that can be lethal if ingested in large quantities. Wireless alarm systems equipped with monitored CO detectors will alert you of dangerous levels of CO even when you’re not home.

Smoke/CO Firefighter Module- Already have standard smoke and CO in the home? Some wireless home security systems are compatible with smoke and CO alarm modules that can detect the sounds of your existing smoke and CO alarms going off and alert you via your mobile app.

Flood Sensor- You may be able to prevent major flood damage if you can catch leaks as soon as they happen. Flood sensors, sometimes called water leak detectors, can be placed near the dishwasher, washing machine, sump pump, or any other areas where floods can occur.

Heat Detector- While temperature sensors may be built into smoke alarms, they can be sold as separate devices that alert you of rapidly rising temperatures in your home, which could indicate fires. It is often a good idea to use these in a garage or near the furnace, where emissions tend to set off smoke detectors.

Low-Temperature Sensors- Low Temp Sensors can be set to monitor if the temperature dips below 45 degrees to prevent frozen pipes. These can be placed on exterior walls where the plumbing runs and in the coolest areas in the home that might be vulnerable to sub-freezing temperatures.

Alder Security Cameras, Appliance Modules, and Smart Locks

Indoor/Outdoor Cameras- Wireless Alder security cameras allow you to monitor and record what is happening in and outside of your home. Most wireless alarm systems offer a variety of camera options for both indoor or outdoor use.  The current standard is 1080P HD resolution which is motion-activated and offers night vision. Cameras are also available with two-way voice capability and some even offer Artificial Intelligence (AI) which can distinguish between persons and objects such as pets.

Micro-SD card- While most cameras offer cloud storage of video clips, (at a price) some cameras come with storage capabilities on micro-SD cards. These are typically purchased separately, gaining up to 64 GB of local storage.

Video Doorbells- Video doorbells integrate a doorbell and a camera into one component. They may operate through the existing doorbell wiring or function as a stand-alone unit with a rechargeable battery.  Many of the better systems are motion activated and include 2-way voice to allow you to speak with your guest through the system. If it is incorporated into your wireless alarm system it can be operated from your control panel or directly through your system’s app. These are a popular add-on to enable wireless security system owners to monitor packages dropped off at the front door…esp. during the holiday season.

Appliance and Light Modules- These are separate modules that plug into the existing 110v outlets that enable you to control lighting and small appliances right through your wireless home security system. You can turn lights on and off, start the coffee in the AM, raise the shades and turn on fans right through your app. The best wireless security systems even let you set up rules or scenes which will let you automate a whole series of events when you issue a single command.

Smart Locks- Never worry about placing a spare key under the doormat again. Smart locks can be locked and unlocked remotely. Alder smart locks that can be managed with your wireless home security system so that your doors can lock when your system is armed, ensuring that your home is truly secure when you leave the house.

Alder Security vs Vivint Home Security

Both Alder and Vivint have had their challenges when it comes to reputation.

Vivint has had similar approaches and challenges in the past but has recently revamped its program. They have increased transparency and introduced a more simple monitoring structure. Equipment pricing is separate from monitoring so there is less “smoke and mirrors” when it comes to contracts.

The Vivint Flexpay option enables prospective customers to finance the equipment separately over 42-60 months with 0% interest.

If you prefer, you can pay for the equipment up front. If you elect to do so, there is no monitoring contract required!

The Alder Security contract

Alder Home Security Long Term Contracts

Most security or alarm companies require at least a three-year monitoring agreement any time you sign up with the company. Alder Home Security is no exception. As a matter of fact, many negative online reviews reference the fact that they were required to sign 60-month contracts, and were automatically renewed without notification or consent.

With Alder Security, after the 3 day right of rescission, one is normally accountable for all, or the majority of the monitoring payments for the entire duration of the contract.

Terms regarding your Alder Security contract

A few of the other problem areas in relation to Alder Home Security system contracts…or many other home security plans usually are:

Escalation clauses- Some companies retain the right to increase monitoring rates following the first year…even when the contract duration is longer.

Automatic Renewal Clauses – Some documents repeatedly renew on an annual, after the first term is over except in cases where the consumer legally cancels the deal as well as meets essential terms regarding termination.

Cancellation Terms and conditions – Quite oftentimes, the deal needs to be terminated in writing, 30, or even sixty days prior to the end of the principal contract.

Just be sure you get hold of Alder’s home security customer service and fully understand what requirements need to be met to end the commitment.

Alder Alarm Reviews recommend you document your cancellation efforts

When it comes time to conclude that contract, just remember to take all the required actions and record every one of the communications.

Alder Security reviews often recommend that you:

Call- as well as keep track of the contact with time as well as contact details
Mail- Mail out notice by means of certified mail
E-Mail- Send e-mails that include “read “receipt

Make sure that all communications are properly archived and keep them handy just in case there may be a problem. Also- make sure you monitor your bank account to ensure you don’t see any unauthorized debits following the prearranged date.

Switching from Alder to your future service provider

After your experience with Alder Home Security, you’re going to have a better idea of what a preferred company should be like.

Our short security quiz will assist you to identify your choices.

Alder Security Response to the Coronavirus  Pandemic

Despite the fact that nearly everyone is concerned with the spread of Covid-19, the  Alder Security website, at the time of this update,  does not seem to have a published policy statement of how they are meeting the security needs of their customers while maintaining a safe environment for their employees.

Security companies that offer professional installation face the challenges of how to handle in-home sales,  service, or installation appointments.

Before letting an Alder Security representative or technician into your home, it is recommended that you contact the Alder Alarm Co. customer service to determine what steps are being taken to protect all parties from the potential of exposure to Covid-19.

The best home security companies have adopted a number of policies to maintain their sales, service, and monitoring standards while ensuring the safety of both their employees and customers.

  • To combat Covid in the workplace many companies have shifted a large percentage of their employees to remote operations.  They provide secure laptops for remote workers to ensure privacy.
  • The best alarm companies have multiple monitoring centers. In the event of a major outbreak, calls can be re-routed to another facility.
  • Customer-facing employees should be issued additional cleaning supplies, protective masks, and protective tools. Additionally, best practices for home security companies should ensure that clients are contacted prior to an appointment to make sure that they can provide a safe work environment.
  • Additionally, during the pandemic, many companies will encourage customers to reschedule if they are uncomfortable receiving sales, service, or installation personnel in their homes.

During the Covid 19 health emergency, it is critical that everyone works together to ensure the safety of both security company employees and customers.

To satisfy any concerns you might have, you will have to contact Alder Security Customer Service to assess their Coronavirus protocols.

Can renters get an Alder Security system?

In the event that you’re renting a house, condominium, or perhaps an apartment, you will have to call them directly to determine if you are eligible. If they do agree to install a system, you will probably be instructed to supply paperwork regarding landlord authorization.
Should you be renting, you can check out our Ultimate Guide to Security Systems for Apartments.

Renters often inquire whether or not pets will set off the motion detector.

Do I need an alarm permit to install an  Alder Alarm system?

One issue rarely brought up in Alder Security reviews is permit requirements.

Because an Alder Alarm System is being monitored, and police fire or rescue services may be dispatched, many local municipalities will require a permit.

In most cases, this involves basic registration with your local police or sheriff’s department and a nominal fee.

You will likely also be required to provide the name, address, and phone number of the Alder Home Security monitoring center.

Where permits are required, most municipalities will require a one-time fee to register your system. Some cities require an annual renewal as well. In municipalities with high crime and false alarm rates,  failure to register your Alder alarm system can result in a refusal to respond to locations that do not have an alarm permit…although this is fairly rare.

However, you may be subject to additional fines if police, fire, or emergency medical services are dispatched to a location without a permit.

Even when a permit is obtained, most communities will assess fines for multiple false alarms. Most communities have policies in place in which the first 1 or 2 dispatches do not involve fines.  After that fines typically escalate from $25-50 for the first enforceable offense…to $100-200 for subsequent repeat offenses.

Consequently, it is very important that alarm system owners contact their local police department, find out what permits are required, get a full understanding of the local policy and make sure they take the necessary steps to prevent false alarms.

Tips on Alder Home Security System Customization

Before deciding on how to best customize an Alderalarm system, make sure that they can provide the equipment you require for a fully customized and cost-effective system. To get the most bang for your buck, make sure the system you choose has the versatility and can accommodate the multi-function components described below.

5 Easy Ways to Customize Alder Security Systems

1            The best home security companies offer a full line of “take-over” devices that allow you to upgrade your current security equipment to the most advanced system available. If you are upgrading a system with a fair amount of existing equipment, this is an important consideration.

2            Top alarm companies offer multiple specialized sensor options for your doors and windows include recessed, plunger, and bypass –  providing custom solutions for nearly any installation scenario.

3            It is optimal to be able to open and close your garage door with the same keyfob you use for your alarm system. You can also control it with a smartphone thanks to  Z-wave products that interface with most garage door brands.

4            Protect your home from frozen and broken water pipes and furnace and air conditioning failure with this multi-purpose sensor. Check to see if multi-function sensors are available with your system.

5            Triple-duty detectors can activate your alarm system when it senses smoke and high and low temperatures.

Top  6 Ways to Enhance Garage Security with an Alder Security System

Outdoor Video Camera – Keep an eye on who approaches your garage doors and monitor activity. Outdoor Alder security cameras offer 1080P HD resolution with motion detection and night vision.

Overhead Door Monitors – Always know whether the largest entry is open or closed. Alder home security tilt sensors use an inclinometer to detect the angle of the garage door. They send a signal to the control panel whether the overhead garage door is in an open or closed position.

Garage Door Openers – Allow automation and remote management of the overhead doors. With a wireless connection to the main home security system control panel, the doors can be controlled and even automated from the panel or right through the alarms system App.

Indoor Video Camera – Monitor activity within the garage when access is gained. In our household, we have shipments and grocery deliveries inside the garage.  With an inside Alder Security camera, we can keep an eye on things remotely.

Exterior Door Contacts – Keep all vulnerable garage doors protected. Exterior and/or home entranceways should be protected.

Heat Detectors – Not affected by smoke and fumes…an Alder alarm system heat detector senses rapid rises of temperature due to fire.  This is especially important in homes with an attached garage.

Alternative Options for Alder Security Sensors

Door and window sensors can have many uses that you may not have considered. Door or window contacts can be configured so that they don’t set off the alarm system.  Instead, they will sound a chime and/or send a notification signal to your Alder Security App.

For an extra level of protection, consider the following:

Gun Safe – Installing an Alder Alarm sensor on your gun cabinet can better protect against potential tragedy. The sensor can be set up in “report-only” mode.  That way, if someone breaks the cabinet or finds the code or key, the system will notify you when your cabinet is accessed.

Liquor and Medicine Cabinets – Want to know if someone is getting into the liquor cabinet?  Place sensors on liquor and medicine cabinets. When you get a signal that the cabinet has been opened, you can view what is happening on your Alder Home Security cameras.

Hazardous Materials-  To better childproof your home, install contacts on any cabinet within a child’s reach that might contain harmful or toxic materials. Alder Security systems let you program the sensor in the “report-only” mode.

Tool Shed- If your tool shed is close enough to the control panel of your Alder Alarm system, a sensor can be installed on the door of your tool shed as well.

Mailbox- Wondering if the mail has been delivered?  Door/window sensors can be placed on the mailbox to let you know.

Pool Gate –The best alarm companies have outdoor sensors that can be placed on the pool gate.   Check with Alder Security customer service to find out what sensors are best suited for your situation.

Outdoor applications may require more robust sensors. Mounting on some surfaces can be difficult and the sensors must be close enough to transmit a signal to the main hub.

Ways to avoid false alarms with your Alder Security System.

Alder Security Reviews recommended False Alarm Prevention Steps

Alder Home Security system false alarms could result in fines and unnecessary dispatches of local authorities. While you would not be fined by Alder, you could wind up paying some very expensive penalties with the local municipalities.

The majority of calls most police and fire departments receive are usually a result of false alarms.  For that reason, most towns will assess charges to alarm system owners whenever they go beyond a specified number of false alarms.

To protect yourself from this impacting you, these are some ideas to avoid a false alarm with your Alder Home Security system:

• Make sure that everyone knows how to disarm the alarm system. Your alarm system will have a master passcode, together with a number of supplemental customers secondary codes that one can program into the system. Try to make sure that everyone knows their code and learns how to disarm the home security system.

• Be certain that everyone also is aware of the password. If there is an alarm, the central monitoring station is generally going to call the home,  prior to dispatching authorities and ask for the security password to confirm that the person answering is an authorized user.

• Verify that windows and doors are completely secured before arming the system. A door that has been left even a little bit ajar may very well be blown open in your absence and set off the alarm.

• Confirm that all detectors are set up safely and securely and in the proper places. Motion detectors ought to be set up at a height of six feet.  They should be places clear of fans, heating elements, fireplace, and air conditioning systems.

• Take into account things that set off a motion detector. It’s not only the pets. Air-conditioning units could potentially cause fluttering draperies or plants. Even helium balloons can set off an alarm-as they might be carried throughout the home as a result of air currents. Make sure they are tied down far from motions.

• In a perfect world, pets should be restricted to areas away from the motion detectors. In the event that’s not possible, many companies offer “pet- friendly” or “pet-immune” sensors which could screen out smaller pets under 40, 50 even 80 lbs.  Motion detectors may also be set up to provide pet alleys in which pets could move freely about. An alternative choice is to use glass break sensors rather than motions.

• Be sure to swap out batteries when necessary. Almost all alarm systems use Lithium-Ion batteries. They generally have at very least a two-year estimated life expectancy. Your Alder Alarm system or Alder Security App will, in most cases,  alert you in the event the batteries are getting low.

It is a good idea to store your Alder Home Security manuals/codes/passwords in a safe designated location in which they can be checked if required.

Alder Alarm DIY or Professional Install?

Alarm technology is now predominantly wireless and extremely user-friendly. Consequently, it is quite easy for anyone to install. The more popular DIY security service providers have streamlined the installation process to make it easy for even the most technologically-challenged individuals.

The better companies will pre-program your complete system prior to sending it out, so all you have to do is position the gear and call in to get the system turned on. Over 90% of homeowners found our best DIY alarms systems very easy to install!

Advantages of DIY Install over Alder Security Install

  • Save Money– Setting up your own DIY system can save a substantial amount of money over a professionally installed Alder Alarm System.
  • No Contracts –  Alder security systems will require a 3-year contract. Many DIY security companies, such as Frontpoint are now month to month.
  • No Waiting– With Alder home security, you are required to schedule an installation appointment. This means taking time off from work, in many cases. With a pre-programmed wireless security system, a do-it youselfer can typically install their own system in under an hour.
  • Enhanced Familiarity–Homeowners and renters who install their own systems are more engaged and become more familiar with all the features and operations of their systems.
  • Portability– If you need to relocate the system, a wireless DIY alarm is a piece of cake. Just notify the service provider of the changes, and reinstall at your new location. An Alder security system may require additional charges…and may not even be available in some areas.
  • Better Privacy – While Alder Home Security takes great care in hiring technicians, exercise caution, and make sure that your technician has been properly vetted, background checked and drug tested.  With a DIY wireless system, you don’t need to let strangers in your home and provide them with sensitive information. YOU are in charge!

Alder Security -DIY Advantages

Potential Benefits to Professional Alder Home Security Set-Up

Reasons to have the Alder Alarm System professionally installed might be:

• A reduced amount of time and effort.

• Added Expertise

Though a professionally installed Alder Security system may be easier for some, most people will be able to install the system themselves.

If you should go with professional installation, you may want to consider a more experienced installation provider such as ADT Home Security.

If not, remember to inquire how experienced the Alder technicians are and whether they have been background checked and also are subject to drug testing.

Make sure you ask if your supplier has its own technicians or just uses 3rd party sub-contractors. Making use of subcontractors really isn’t always bad, (they might even provide more experience when compared with company personnel) however make sure they have undergone comprehensive vetting before allowing them inside your home.

Features to Require in an Alder Alarm Home Security System panel.

Top 5 Must-Haves in a quality Security System Alarm Panel

When considering an Alder Home Security System, make sure you look into the following features.

Top 5 Things to Look For in an Alder Home Security Panel - Infographic

  1. Encryption – Not all panels have adequate encryption to protect against modern-day hackers. Encrypted Sensors make it very difficult to hack.  If you are upgrading a system, that could mean having to upgrade all your sensors. Some panels, like the 2GIG GC2e, are also backward compatible with prior generations.
  2. Aesthetic and UI – Today’s panels should be sleeker and more modern, with capacitive touch screen controls.
  3. 2-Way Voice – Industry-leading panels offer 2-way voice capability that allows direct communication with the CMS when an alarm is triggered.
  4. Z-Wave Plus – This is a new-and-improved protocol, allowing home-automation products to have more battery power, higher functionality, longer range, and many more benefits over the original Z-Wave protocol
  5. Alarm App – Make sure that the security and home automation platform seamlessly integrates the entire system and enables remote management, observation, and control, from your smartphone, computer, or tablet with an internet connection. You can check Apple App Store or Google Play for ratings.

Alder Security Systems –  Arming Modes

OFF — When your Alder Security System is switched off, many of these alarms are still active.   For instance, your Alder alarm system will still alert you when a door or window is open.  Smoke and CO sensors are still working to protect your home.  If a fire breaks out or there is excess carbon monoxide emissions current, your system will still alert the Alder Security central monitoring station.

Stay–  You are able to arm only the perimeter protection in the doorways and doors by arming your system at the”home” mode.   This will let you move about the home freely and have a certain degree of security.

Away–  This will trigger any interior motion sensors in addition to the windows and doors.

Instant — You are able to remove the entry delay in your alder Alarm system by arming it in instant mode.

Duress –  You may establish a particular duress code which can notify the monitoring center that there’s a possible hostage situation.  If a person were to force you to disarm the system, this code will activate an immediate emergency response.

Panic-  A special signal is sent to the Alder monitoring station that will alert them that there is an occupied panic situation.

Alder Security Tips to Protect Your Home

Below a handful of basic steps to protect your property from criminals -whether you get an Amp Home Security System or not.

1. Make certain to shut as well as lock all windows and doors in the evening and when you’re away from your home.

2. Strengthen entry doors by using deadbolt locks with heavy-duty strike plates that have a minimum 1-inch throw.

3. Sliding glass entry doors happen to be a fairly easy target. To stop criminals from forcing them open, place a metal rod or piece of lumber within the track, and set up vertical bolts.

4. Maintain shrubs as well as shrubbery surrounding windows and doors trimmed. This will make it hard for a thief to keep concealed.

5. You want to keep your house properly lit. Exterior motion lights are an excellent deterrent to protect against nighttime property invasions.
