My Alarm Center Review
Reputation and Credibility
Based in Newton Square, Pennsylvania, My Alarm Center has been in operation since 2001. They offer a complete range of products and services including home security and automation, business security, video surveillance, and personal emergency response.
While they currently enjoy an A+ BBB rating, there are numerous negative online Alarm Center Reviews referencing issues with customer service and difficulties in canceling service.
Nevertheless, they do appear to be responsive to complaints once they are lodged with the BBB. 76 complaints have been lodged in the past 3 years..with nearly half register in the past 12 months.
The website does list the 3 levels of monitoring, but it is not transparent when it comes to equipment, pricing, contractual requirement, guarantees, and equipment warranties.
My Alarm Center and its subsidiaries provide service in 30 states…and their DIY option, Livesecure, is available nationwide.
Monitoring
My Alarm Center operates its own UL Listed, CSAA Five Diamond Certified monitoring center. This level of accreditation meets the highest industry standards and is awarded to less than 5% of central monitoring stations across the country.
Monitoring starts at a fairly competitive rate of $19.99 a month for basic monitoring. As mentioned earlier the terms of the contracts are not listed… and the site indicates that pricing varies depending on the region.
Traditional Landline – $19.99
Designed primarily as a take-over option. Basic monitoring via landline service is available. Of course, this does not include any video, home automation, or interactive capability. Because the system can be so easily defeated by merely cutting the phone lines, most security customers now require cellular service at a minimum.
Basic Cellular – $29.99
Cellular service is much more secure. The basic cellular plan does not include their My Alarm Center App which enables the user to manage and monitor the system remotely through their smartphone or computer.
Cellular + – $34.99
Their entry-level monitoring includes basic cellular monitoring for intrusion, fire, and CO. The panel, KeyFob, and basic door/window sensors are included. If you want to manage the system remotely, get real-time alerts, and take advantage of home automation technology, you will have to step up to the Cellular + plan.
Smart Home – $44.99
This plan provides remote access through their interactive app to be able to arm/disarm the system remotely, receive activity alerts, unlock doors, and control thermostats.
Smart Home and Video – $49.99
Their premier offering, the Smart Home and Video plan adds video capabilities to the mix. It included remote monitoring, video activity capture, and storage, as well as video notifications with clips.
My Alarm Center Pricing and Equipment
If you are looking for specifics on equipment sold prices and installation costs, I am afraid you will have to speak with a local representative to get any details. When it comes to My Alarm Center equipment, costs, pricing, and installation…there is virtually no visibility on the website.
Of course, as a full-service home security provider, they will undoubtedly offer a wide range of home security, video, and home automation equipment, including:
- Security Panel
- Door/Window Sensor
- Motion Sensor
- Glass Break Sensor
- Key Fob
- Smoke Sensor
- CO Detector
- Flood Sensor
- Panic Button
- Low-Temperature Sensor
- Smart Lighting Control
- Smart Thermostat
- Smart Lock
- Video Surveillance Cameras
They don’t publish equipment or package prices. They have chosen the more traditional security approach of offering a completely customized security solution. They will have a “trained security consultant” provide a “quote” based on individual needs and circumstances.
While this might sound good in theory, it makes it very difficult for the prospective client to compare price and services.
One should be prepared to spend at least an hour with a salesperson that has been coached to maximize “upsells” and “close” the sale on the spot.
Customer Service
Their A+ BBB rating is indicative that they take the necessary steps to resolve serious customer complaints and issues that are filed with the BBB. In the past 3 years there have been 76 complaints filed with the BBB-all of which have been closed.
The majority of complaints on forums and online review sites pertain mostly to billing issues and difficulties in canceling service.
Summary- My Alarm Center
My Alarm Center offers a wide array of products and services. They have both Professionally Installed and DIY home security solutions.
They have maintained regional branding from some of the companies that they have acquired. This may result in a different customer experience when it comes to the installation and local service. However, the monitoring service should be the same.
It is evident from the A+ BBB rating that they are committed to resolving customer disputes- at least when it reaches that level. While they provide little online transparency regarding policies and pricing, it appears that they provide a quality service, albeit at a relatively premium price.
Because they are not disclosed, upfront costs may be substantially higher than our top ranked home security systems. To find out what the actual installation costs and ongoing monitoring costs will be, you must be comfortable with telesales or the traditional in-home sales and installation processes.
If you reside outside their service area and/or are looking for the best values in home security, I would suggest that you investigate our Top Alarm Companies, before making a decision.

My Alarm Center vs Frontpoint Security
My Alarm Center vs. Frontpoint Security
Although they both do a good job resolving customer issues, Frontpoint has a higher BBB Rating and a lower number of complaints filed annually than My Alarm Center.
And while Frontpoint is available virtually anywhere, My Alarm CenterSystems are only available in certain areas. Even if you currently reside in one of those states…what happens if you move outside of the service area? (see below)
Navigate to the Frontpoint site, and you will find pricing, equipment, monitoring rates, ownership, and warranty policies all clearly spelled out.
Conversely, there is a major lack of transparency on the My Alarm Center Home Security website. There are no equipment packages or pricing to facilitate consumer comparisons. Want details and pricing? Well, you’ll have to schedule an appointment with a salesperson.
Equipment and Monitoring
Frontpoint security systems incorporated military-grade encryption. On the site, you’ll find a full description with specs and pricing on all components. Monitoring costs run from $34.95-$49.95…and all included features are clearly defined.
They received our Gold Award as one of the TOP Home Security Companies of 2020. Frontpoint systems come standard with Cellular monitoring -which means that there no phone lines that can be cut.
With Frontpoint– basic systems include integrated cellular communication and are just $99.00.…with extremely competitive pricing on their add-on sensors.
DIY or Professional Install?
Security systems used to be complicated and require drilling holes, fishing wires, and programming systems. Modern wireless technologies have evolved to the point where installing a security system from a reputable DIY Alarm Company means mounting a few sensors and calling in to activate the system. Frontpoint pre-programs and configures the system before shipping it out…so installation is a snap. Over 90% of Frontpoint customers found the system “easy to install”.
Interactive Features
Fontpoint’s award-winning Interactive Platform is provided by Alarm.com. It includes:
- Smash and Crash Protection- alerts the central station of an intrusion- even if the system is destroyed
- Geo-Fencing- uses GPS location on your cell phone to automatically control security and home automation functions
- Power Outage Notification – if there is a loss of power, the system sends you an alert
Frontpoint vs My Alarm Center – a different approach… Most Frontpoint customers will save hundreds, or even thousands of dollars over a professionally installed competitor- without the prospect of having to deal with a “high pressure” salesman in the home – or the hassles of scheduling and allowing strangers in the home to install the system.
- NO High-Pressure Salesman
- NO Hassles of Scheduling Install
- NO Strangers in YOUR Home
- Save Hundreds!
Frontpoint Security delivers state of the art, DIY security and home automation products and the very best customer service in the industry.
