Reputation and Credibility

LivSecure is the DIY, direct to consumer, division of My Alarm Center.  While LivSecure has only recently entered the home security industry, My Alarm Center has been servicing customers for over 15 years. The company headquarters of LivSecure is located in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.

While they have nor been ranked in the Top 100 by the SDM and don’t have the track record of some of our  Top Rated Alarm Companies, the parent company, My Alarm Center does boast an A+ BBB rating.

Their website is simple and clean… but, offers little substantive information when it comes to equipment.

However, plans are clearly laid out.  Additional pricing transparency might bolster consumer confidence and be helpful to allow prospective customers to compare and evaluate the company in relation to more established home security companies-without being forced to call in for pricing information.

LivSecure Monitoring

When it comes to monitoring, LivSecure is rather secretive about who, where and what credentials are associated with their monitoring service. They seem unwilling to disclose the location(s) and credentials of the monitoring stations other than stating that they are UL Listed.

LivSecure includes their interactive application, Total Home Control with all  their plans.  This app enable you to manage the security system and  home automation functions remotely, receive event notifications and observe video on your iOS, Android, Blackberry, Windows, Pebble, and Kindle devices…as well as through a standard web browser.

While they do offer a 12 month, non subsidized contract option, the standard contract is 36 months and requires a $99.00 Set Up Fee.

The monitoring packages include:

LivEssential – $34.99 – Includes 24/7 monitoring and remote access and control through Total Home Control.

LiveEssential + – $44.99 – Adds video monitoring capabilities.

LivPremier – $54.99 – Adds home automation functions.

LivSecure monitoring packages do not appear to include such valuable features such as Crash and Smash Protection and Geo Location Services-which are available in our #1 Pick, Frontpoint Security.

Pricing and Equipment

LivSecure security systems use quality wireless equipment provided by Qolsys.  While not as well known as some other wireless equipment manufactures such as Honeywell, GE/Interlogix, DSC, and 2Gig Technologies…the Qolsys IQ control panel is feature rich and aesthetically pleasing.  It’s 7″ full color touchscreen display is an attractive addition to any household.

With 40 zones, built in cellular, Z-Wave and Wi-Fi…the system has all the technology you need to create a comprehensive security and home automation system.

LivSecure does not list equipment pricing on the website, making it difficult for consumers to compare equipment pricing.

They do however, have a generous standard equipment package and include some additional equipment in their premium packages.

LivSecure Home Security –  Customer Service

Although LivSecure posts reasonably convenient customer service availability, there seems to be some customer concern for staffing and response to customer service and tech support needs.

“Even though their site indicated they closed at 10:00pm EST, they closed earlier. Over the weekend they opened later than advertised and we received a message indicating all agents were busy. We left several messages and sent three emails, all of which were never responded to. Upon finally reaching an agent on Monday I was informed they had a lot of “issues” and the person working the phones over the weekend didn’t work due to a family emergency. What? Only one person mans the phones?”

While there is minimal online feedback available for LivSecure, customer complaints on the BBB site for the parent company My Alarm Center include difficulties in cancelling service and auto-renewal clauses.

Although Live Chat, an increasing popular customer service/tech support feature is not currently available with LivSecure, they do offer a generous 60 day return policy.

LivSecure Review Summary

While LiveSecure has yet to become a household name in the security and home automation industry, they offer a pretty solid overall package for one looking for a DIY alarm and home automation system.

However, the fact that the site is less than transparent when it comes to equipment pricing and somewhat secretive when it comes to their monitoring centers certainly gives one reason to consider alternatives.

Add to that a rather limited track record and concerns with cancellations and auto-renewal clauses…and we feel that there are better alternatives offered by our Top Alarm Companies.
