2024 SimpliSafe Reviews Update
Is SimpliSafe Secure…or just Simple? SimpliSafe reviews are mostly positive but indicate reservations about the quality and sophistication of the equipment.
SimpliSafe competitors have been quick to point out recently published articles outlining known vulnerabilities. In the past, there were many SimpliSafe complaints about the absence of any sort of SimpliSafe camera, but that issue was addressed this year. The lack of Z-wave home automation compatibility still remains an issue.
However, they continue to expand their own line-up of proprietary home automation equipment such as the new SimpliSafe Door Lock.
Our SimpliSafe Reviews reveal pros/cons as well as common SimpliSafe complaints.
As there has been so much demand for information regarding the introduction of the newest camera products, the SimpliSafe Smart Indoor Wireless Camera and the SimpliSafe outdoor camera, this SimpliSafe review will begin with a summary of each as well as some of the video doorbell and home automation products they have introduced and/or updated in recent years. A more traditional SimpliSafe review will follow the initial material. Read on to get all the facts on this award-winning security system.

Should I buy the SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera?
SimpliSafe has finally introduced the highly anticipated SimpliSafe Outdoor camera. Now you don’t have to dress up the SimpliCam in a raincoat and hope it works outdoors. So….was it worth the wait?
If you are an existing SimpliSafe Security system owner…you will likely be very pleased. It should be noted from the outset that this is not a stand-alone outdoor security camera and it does require the Generation 3 SimpliSafe base unit to work.
Beyond that, this battery-operated 1080p HDR wireless camera offers a built-in spotlight and an ultra wide140 degrees viewing with full-color night vision capability with 8x digital zoom. The Smart AI algorithms in the SimpliSafe Smart Person Detection help eliminate false notifications and preserve battery life.
Mounting is a snap and the included battery is rated to last for 3-6 months(depending on climate/usage and settings) between charges. With an IP65 rating, it can’t be submerged in water, but, it is well suited for outdoor use and it includes 2-way audio and an 80-decibel alarm to ward off intruders.
Early online SimpliSafe Outdoor Security Camera Reviews indicate some reservations with the magnetic mounting, but otherwise, the SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera seems like a no-brainer for existing customers. Overall, it represents a solid feature set and is priced competitively.

SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera Reviews
What Customers are saying about the new Outdoor SimpliSafe Camera
While there seem to have been a lot of initial complaints with connectivity and motion-activation, it appears that software updates have addressed those issues- at least to some degree.
It is important to keep in mind, that the SimpliSafe Outdoor Cameras are only compatible with Gen 3 SimpliSafe security systems. They are not designed to work independently as stand-alone cameras, nor with older SimpliSafe alarm systems.
While overall we feel that the camera represents a decent value, there are other cameras that can outperform the SimpliSafe cameras…at a lower cost. This SimpliSafe outdoor camera is designed to meet the demands of those who already own, or are willing to invest in a 3rd Generation SimpliSafe Security System,
Here is what customers are saying…
"Finally"
“It was a long wait to finally get a SimpliSafe outdoor camera. It connected easily…Happy with it!”
"Two Thumbs Up"
“I had to wait a couple months for updated software for my SimpliSafe System 3 base, but it was totally worth the wait!”
"Catches everything except motion"
“I’ve got it aiming at my garage and I can walk past it 20 times and it will catch me on video maybe once.”
Indoor SimpliSafe Camera Review…SimpliCam Review Summary
Well…after all the hype, it is a bit anti-climatic. Finally released from beta testing, the new SimpliSafe camera, aptly named the SimpliCam is now available.
One of the top SimpliSafe complaints has been the lack of fully integrated video surveillance capabilities.
In 2017 they finally addressed that issue with the introduction of the SimpliCam. It is a fairly basic indoor camera with an average field of view, but it serves the purpose and integrates directly with the system through the SimpliSafe App. The SimpliSafe Camera is easy to install. Up to 10 SimpliCams can be added to the SimpliSafe Home Security System.
The SimpliCams can be managed seamlessly through the SimpliSafe App.
Now available for $99.00, the SimpliSafe Camera boasts:
- 1080p HD Resolution
- 120° Field of Vision
- Night Vision
- Privacy Shutter
- Wi-Fi
- 2-Way Audio
The SimpliSafe camera does not offer some of the more advanced features such as:
- Local Storage
- High Definition 4K Recording
- Pan, Tilt, Zoom
- Battery Backup
When the SimpliCam was initially introduced, it did not have the 2-Way audio but it has been updated since then. SimpliCam reviews have been overall positive about having the feature, but have found the voice quality could use some improvement and have noted connection issues.
The Stainless Steel Privacy Shutter is a nice touch. The privacy shutter can be closed when the system is off or in the stay mode but can be set to automatically open when the system is armed in the Away mode.
The SimpliSafe camera is a good first step in closing a huge gap between them and SimpliSafe Competitors.
Most SimpliCam Reviews indicate that existing customers are satisfied that there is now at least a basic camera that can be seamlessly integrated into an existing system. However, the SimpliCam falls short when it comes to providing many features that have become fairly standard for cameras in the $99 price range.
It is easy to set up, but for remote viewing and storage, it requires that you subscribe to the Interactive Plan.

NEW- the SimpliSafe Doorbell Camera
Oct. 16, 2018 -The first SimpliSafe outdoor camera has been released. Now, they have thrown their hat in the ring with the launch of their SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Pro.
Designed to go head to head with the Nest Hello and the Amazon Ring, the SimpliSafe doorbell camera, the Video Doorbell Pro, is being offered for $169 and requires an additional $4.99/mo unless you subscribe to the SimpliSafe interactive service($25/mo.) for monthly recording and storage service.
The SimpliSafe doorbell camera boasts:
- 162° Field of Vision
- 1080p HD
- 2-Way Audio Communication
- HDR Technology Night Vision
The SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Pro is simple to install and works seamlessly within the SimpliSafe ecosystem. It is not, however, intended for use as a stand-alone video doorbell.
The SimpliSafe doorbell is a great addition to the line-up. It is a must-have for any smart home and will enable the user to monitor the front door with the SimpliSafe App.
Simplicam used as a SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera
In 2018 SimpliSafe announced plans to introduce a new SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera that would directly interface with their system. To date, this has not come to fruition.
In 2020, video surveillance is in high demand. Consumers looking for security and home automation systems are looking for comprehensive systems that will work seamlessly. The current solution is to mount the SimpliCam outdoors.
SimpliCam as an Outdoor Camera Solution
They do offer a SimpliSafe outdoor camera kit that includes a 25′ power and a weather-resistant sleeve that works with the SimpliCam. However, the SimpliSafe camera is only rated for indoor use.
Most outdoor cameras have an outdoor waterproof rating of IP67 or IP68. The SimpliCam is an indoor camera that can be outfitted with the SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera kit to try and modify the it for outdoor use. It is marketed as “Use your SimpliCam outside with our outdoor kit. It’s got a weatherized wet suit to keep out rain, snow, and dust, plus a 25ft power cable so you can keep it running day and night. Works from -4 to 114ºF.” on the SimpliSafe site.
When placed side by side with dedicated outdoor cameras, that are designed to withstand the rigors of outdoor use, we have our doubts as to the long-term durability.
However, if you feel that you must have an all-in-one solution that can be managed with your SimpliSafe App, this is currently your only option.
SimpliSafe home security does not integrate with 3rd party cameras. So, you will be unable to use the SimpliSafe App to manage 3rd party exterior cameras.
Many SimpliSafe customers have expressed frustrations that an outdoor security camera is still not available. An excerpt from the SimpliSafe forum states.
“My frustration is that SimpliSafe has pretty much abandoned the outdoor camera. They’ve teased it for years and then never delivered. If nothing concrete comes out in the next six months I’ll be dropping the system and using every social platform available to drum up support for others to do the same! How can you possibly claim to care about personal safety yet are unable to develop such simple tech?? Multiple competitors have long since developed and even upgraded their outdoor systems. SimpliSafe has woefully disappointing thus far.”
Of course, there is no reason that one can’t use an outdoor security camera from another 3rd party competitor. However, because it won’t integrate with the SimpliSafe App, you will have to use a different app to view, record, and store any material. Most consumers would prefer an all-in-one solution.
If you are looking for a cost-effective system with full home automation capabilities (including outdoor cameras) you may want to take a look at Frontpoint or Vivint.
The SimpliSafe Door Lock – SimpliSafe Smart Lock is here!
New for 2019 is the SimpliSafe Smart lock. Available in Cloud, Obsidian, and Nickel, it is easy to install and simple to operate.
It does require the SimpliSafe Interactive monitoring service and cannot be used as a stand-alone device, or with any other system.
While the feature set is not as robust as some smart door locks, it is a good value at $99.00 and includes the lock and weatherproof exterior pin pad.
Simplisafe Complaints on the rise re: System Vulnerabilities
In a few short years, they have carved out a lucrative niche in the home security industry by offering affordable, easy-to-install DIY alarms with cheap, optional professional monitoring. They have certainly done an admirable job in creating a system that is simple to install.
But, is it secure?
A recent article published in Forbes indicates that the system has inherent vulnerabilities to electronic hacking. This can prove to be a significant issue because the earlier generations SimpliSafe security systems do not have “over the air” update capability.
NOTE: The Generation 3 SimpliSafe Security systems have been updated with OTA capabilities as well as additional encryption. Sadly, they are not backward compatible with legacy SimpliSafe equipment…so existing customers would have to purchase all new equipment. This has been a source of SimpliSafe complaints in online SimpliSafe Reviews.
Additionally, a recent (November 2016) article in Security Sales & Integration reveals that only certain components of the SimpliSafe security system meet the stringent requirements of UL certification standards. Specifically, they found that the base station/control panel is not NRTL listed. (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories)
Nevertheless, SimpliSafe claims to produce DIY wireless alarm systems that provide solid protection from the average break-in and home invasion.
However, the system is very limited in terms of features. If you are looking for home automation or advanced video surveillance, a SimpliSafe Home Security System is not the best choice for you…

SimpliSafe Reviews
Reputation and Credibility
Although there seems to be an abundance of online negative feedback regarding customer service, SimpliSafe Security enjoys an A+ BBB rating.
Founded almost 10 years ago by Chad Laurans, SimpliSafe has a straightforward philosophy of creating a reasonably priced, simple security system without contractual monitoring commitments. There is no monthly monitoring service contract.
However, their reputation has been called into question in recent articles. These articles claim they have uncovered system vulnerabilities and exposed inconsistencies in company claims regarding whether or not the equipment meets established industry standards.
SimpliSafe Monitoring
While SimpliSafe systems can be used as just a local alarm, the SimpliSafe App will not work without monitoring.
Their UL Listed, Five Diamond Certified monitoring is provided by COPS Monitoring. They provide 24/7 professional monitoring. This ensures you’ll have protection against intrusion, medical and personal safety, fire, and environmental hazards.
SimpliSafe monitoring uses fully integrated cellular-based communications. The signal is sent through a base station that is independent of the keypad. This eliminates the possibility of defeating the system by disabling the main keypad or cutting a phone line or cable.
SimpliSafe Monthly Monitoring Cost
Two (2) monitoring package options are offered by SimpliSafe:
- Standard– The basic plan provides cellular service and 24/7 coverage including intrusion, medical and personal safety, fire and environmental hazards for $14.99
- Interactive– For $24.99, the system will include interactive capabilities, in addition to the standard and alert features. This will enable you to receive notifications and control your system on any computer, tablet or mobile device.
SimpliSafe Pricing and Equipment
The equipment is proprietary and is manufactured and produced by SimpliSafe. It carries a three (3) year warranty. Packages range from $229 to $539. The most popular Basic Starter Package includes:
- 1 Base Station – equipped with built in siren
- 1 Wireless Keypad
- 1 Motion Sensor
- 4 Door/Window Sensors
- 1 Keychain Remote
- I Yard Sign(with no post), 2 Window stickers
SimpliSafe is currently available at Amazon for just $259.95!
Additional components are aggressively priced and more cost-effective than most competitors.
However, it appears pretty generic, and equipment selection is somewhat limited. While the sensors worked, some of them seemed clunky and outdated. No cameras or home automation components are currently offered. (Update- The SimpliSafe Camera is now available…Specs are listed later in this SimpliSafe Review)
The Base Unit and the Wireless Keypad are separate units. This eliminates the likelihood of an intruder disabling the keypad and defeating the system with a crash-and-smash attempt. Oddly, the siren is also located in the base unit….making it relatively easy for the intruder to identify the location of the unit…and destroy it before the signal goes out.
One of the most common complaints in online SimpliSafe reviews is the fact that the components are somewhat antiquated. This has been addressed to a certain degree with the introduction of the latest iteration of hardware…the SimpliSafe 3.
The keypad is still pretty basic, with limited functionality compared to some of our Top Rated Alarm Companies.
However, it is definitely a marked improvement over its predecessor. Additionally, while the SimpliSafe 3 has yet to be fully integrated with the IFTT channel of home automation, it now works with Nest and can interface with Amazon Alexa. Further 3rd part integrations are possible in the near future as it is now wi-fi capable and can receive remote download firmware upgrades.
SimpliSafe Complaints – SimpliSafe Reviews reveal loyal customers outraged…
Online security research and many SimpliSafe security reviews have expressed their displeasure with the fact that the new SimpliSafe 3 security system is not backward compatible.
Basically, other than the SimpliCam, components from older systems will not work with the newer generation of hardware. Nor can you use the new generation of products with the old line…
In addition, the SimpliSafe equipment is proprietary. This means that it cannot be used with any other company’s systems, which use more highly recognized brands such as GE, Honeywell and 2-Gig.
Customer Service
SimpliSafe was designed from the ground up as an affordable, easy to use, simple-to-install DIY system. They provide all the requisite instructions, videos, tutorials, and one-on-one support to complete the installation with relative ease.
However, for those who are intimidated by a self-installed system, they do not offer optional professional installation.
While the customer experience is generally positive, there are a substantial number of online complaints regarding the hours of availability and overall quality of the customer service.
For a company that doesn’t require a contract, there are a surprising number of negative online reviews regarding customer service.
SimpliSafe Complaints
The following excerpts from reviews on Consumeraffairs.com seem to reflect an increasingly common customer experience when it comes to customer service and tech support.
“I like the product and concept overall, BUT their customer service is practically nonexistent. You can send them an email, but it just goes into a black hole and no one ever responds. You can call them and spend half your life on hold before being cut off — I truly believe their customer service line is connected to a perpetually open line that no one ever answers. This wouldn’t be so bad if something wasn’t always going wrong with the system. Batteries burn out and need to be replaced with “special” batteries that only SimpliSafe seems to have. Door sensors just stop working for no apparent reason even though the batteries are still good. And the online “dashboard” will tell me my sensor is working fine even though it’s sitting on my desk with all the batteries out of it. My advice: before you buy one of their systems, try calling their customer service (tech support) line FIRST.”
“I bought this system for myself, and got it for Christmas! Had to return one. Took five communications with them to get a return label. Installed one system, horn (alarm) does not activate. Wait time on their Service Line was estimated at 55 minutes, got cut off after 60 minutes. Tried again, now waiting time is one hour and 15 minutes. So far, this is terrible. Not nearly as impressive as they very carefully make you believe.”
Perhaps this is just a temporary situation for a company that has experienced tremendous growth in sales.
Should a call become necessary, there is no 24-hour tech support.
NEW – SimpliSafe Installation
While it is still primarily a DIY company, you can now elect to get professional in-home SimpliSafe installation assistance for $79.
SimpliSafe Review Summary
They offer a simple security solution at reasonably affordable price points.
Equipment is DIY only and must be purchased separately from the monitoring. This makes upfront costs higher.
Aside from the somewhat clunky appearance, the system firmware can’t be updated on earlier generations still being sold. This makes it impossible to address technological flaws, weaknesses, and vulnerabilities that may be reason for concern. (For better security…opt for the 3rd generation of SimpliSafe-SS3)
Overall, their product offerings are rather limited, lack encryption on earlier generations, and online feedback indicates that there is room for improvement in customer service.
However, the addition of the SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera does much to round out the product lineup.
There is no Z-Wave or Zigbee communication platform, so the home automation capabilities are limited to the proprietary devices that SimpliSafe offers. If you want to be able to control them remotely with the SimpliSafe App, you will have to get their interactive package for about $25 bucks a month,
While it is a reasonably good choice for the budget-conscious DIY’er, our top alarm companies offer a far greater range of services and, for most, represent a better overall value.

SimpliSafe Review Transcript Excerpt from 2016 Review (new video update to be released soon)
So today, lets take a look at Simply Safe Security.
Founded in 2006 by Chad Lawrence in Cambridge Massachusetts, Simplisafe has shown steady growth and enjoys an A+ Better Business Bureau rating.
Simplisafe offers third-party monitoring and requires no contract. Their monitoring starts at about fifteen dollars a month- with cellular interactive available for 24.99.
Simplisafe manufactures its own brand of proprietary equipment instead of using more recognized brands such as GE 2-gig or Honeywell. Their product line seems a bit outdated and somewhat limited offering no video or home automation.
Package prices are considerably higher than most ranging from $229- $539.
Customer experience is generally positive and simply safe has an A-plus Better Business Bureau rating. (although a casual search of customer feedback on yelp review sites and forums reveals a significant number of customer complaints) and there’s no professional installation available for those who might be intimidated by having to install the system themselves.
While SimpliSafe offers an affordable do-it-yourself alternative to home security, their equipment is somewhat simplistic and outdated- instead of aligning themselves with a more recognized equipment provider they’ve chosen to manufacture their own proprietary equipment which means you can’t switch providers if you’re unhappy.
In addition, the product lineup is very limited with no video or home automation available and startup costs are substantially higher than most with even the most basic package running $229.
While simply safe offers a good value for the budget-conscious do-it-yourselfer, we feel that our top alarm companies offer a far greater range of services and represent a better overall value for most home security buyers. I want to thank you for visiting the home security advisor and I hope you found our information useful. SimpliSafe Home Security – Equipment
Base Station
-is a self-contained control and communication panel which is positioned separately from the keypad which minimizes the chance of being destroyed in a crash and smash style break-in. It is equipped with a cellular communicator and a GSM sim card that is activated when you subscribe to the monitoring service.
Siren
The 85 dB siren is located in this base unit which accommodates up to 41 sensors. For redundancy, the base unit can also be attached to both phone and internet lines.
SimpliSafe Keypad
The Simplisafe Keypad is located separately from the base station. While the aesthetics leave a bit to be desired, by today’s standards..it is functional and is a bit more secure. However, care must be taken to place it close enough to the base station.
SimpliSafe Security Sensors
Wireless Keypad– is mounted separately from the base unit. This will ensure that a signal is sent to the monitoring station, even if the keypad is destroyed.
Keychain Remote– enables you to conveniently arm and disarm your system. It also contains an emergent panic button.
Contacts
Standard door and window sensors are mounted via industrial strength double-stick tape and reportedly work within 400 feet of the base unit. The magnetic contact will register within 2 inches of the transmitter allowing more flexibility of placement than many sensors.
SimpliSafe Motion Sensor
– detect thermal output for a 30′ range over a 90-degree angle. The sensor provides pet immunity-screening out pets under 50 lbs.
Glass Break Sensor – Detects the audible sound frequencies of shattering glass. This is a great way to protect rooms with sliding glass doors and lots of windows.
SimpliSafe Smoke Detector
Utilizes photo-electric chambers to detect smoke. It interfaces with your SimpliSafe security system and will alert the central monitoring station automatically-whether you at home or not.
Carbon Monoxide Sensor– Detects this odorless deadly gas before it can harm your family. Will alert authorities of the dangers with a monitored system.
Wireless Freeze Sensor– Detects low temperatures in the home and guards against the possibility of freezing pipes in the event of a heating system failure.
Wireless Water Sensor– Can detect water or flooding in areas with extensive plumbing or that are vulnerable to flooding. It can be very effective in detecting leaks that might lead to damage and mold infestation.
105 Decibel Siren– Can be mounted externally to alert the neighbors in the event of a break-in.
SimpliSafe Refurbished
Upfront pricing for a SimpliSafe home security system a bit more than you want to spend? SimpliSafe even offers like new, fully inspected and warrantied SimpliSafe refurbished equipment.
Overall, the SimpliSafe equipment selection is very functional, although perhaps a bit outdated. However, the fact that the base unit is separate from the keypad is a big plus when protecting against the possibility of a crash and smash break-in. Incorporating triple redundancy, with the cellular as a primary means of communication (landline and broadband service to the unit are also available) is an excellent security feature.
If you are seeking a basic affordable home security system, without home automation and a lot of bells and whistles…SimpliSafe is a solid choice.
Poor SimpliSafe Reviews Addressed in 2018 Equipment Updates
Probably the common criticism is the rather outdated look of the equipment. Sensors were large and clunky and had a very limited range. These issues were addressed when they have recently introduced their new updated equipment line-up at the 2018 CES.
While it is more of an evolution than a revolution, they have definitely enhanced the aesthetics of their equipment and made some significant improvements.
In addition to decreasing the size of many of the sensors, they have increased the range. While they don’t offer any sort of touchscreen interface, the new keypad illuminates in the dark. Color options have been expanded and sensors are now available in a more high tech matte black finish.
While they still can’t be compared to the current home security state of the art, SimpliSafe is definitely showing that they are responding to customer feedback.
SimpliSafe Packages
Simplisafe offers a full range of equipment packages to meet the needs of a full spectrum of potential customers. While SimpliSafe still does not offer Z-Wave compatibility, they have expanded their proprietary smart home equipment offerings.
Most packages also include their redesigned Key Fob, which lets you easily arm and disarm the system from the palm of your hand.
Don’t see a package that fits the bill?
No problem, you can customize a system to your exact needs with the Build Your Own program.

Common SimpliSafe Security FAQs
Does the SimpliSafe Smart Indoor Camera detect motion?
Yes, the SimpliSafe Smart Indoor Camera is equipped with a motion sensor that can detect movement within its field of view. When motion is detected, the camera will send alerts to the connected SimpliSafe mobile app and can also trigger recording or live streaming of the detected activity.
What is the Downside of SimpliSafe?
The Downsides of SimpliSafe
Even a company as popular as SimpliSafe has downsides. Online reviews indicate that false alarms can be a recurring issue. To make matters worse, these reviews indicate that SimpliSafe customer service representatives can often be less than helpful.
An additional SimpliSafe downside is the fact that the equipment is proprietary.
This means that if you want to switch your monitoring service, you will NOT be able to use the equipment with another security company, and will have to buy all new equipment.
Does SimpliSafe require a contract?
SimpliSafe does not require that you sign a contract to get their monitoring service. However, to be able to control the entire system and monitor video feeds, you will need to subscribe to their service. All plans are on a month to month basis.
Is professional installation available?
Yes. Although it is designed as a DIY system, if you are not comfortable installing the SimpliSafe Security system, you can arrange for professional install starting at $79.
Does SimpliSafe offer home automation?
SimpliSafe offers a limited selection of its own home automation products. The SimpliCam, SimpliSafe Video Doorbell, and SimpliSafe Smart Lock can all be controlled through the SimpliSafe App.
Unlike most of the competition, SimpliSafe does NOT include either Z-Wave or Zigbee protocols. This means that it won’t work with the majority of the most popular home automation products on the market.
However, the SimpliSafe system can be controlled via Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Watch. Most of the automation features require the Interactive monitoring plan.
Can I control the system with Alexa?
Yes…Alexa can control a SimpliSafe alarm system.
As home alarm systems continue to evolve, a large number of consumers are looking to manage and automate their systems with Alexa.
Voice control is becoming increasingly popular. For example, Alexa can be set up to turn on a SimpliSafe camera, unlock SimpliSafe door locks, or arm the entire system.
Alexa-compatible systems can execute simple commands or complete scenes such as arming the system, locking doors, turning off lights, and turning down the thermostat -with a single command!
Is there an Outdoor SimpliSafe Camera?
2022 SimpliSafe Security Review Update: In fall of 2021, they introduced the NEW SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera. It was well received and was a huge upgrade for those who were trying to use the indoor SimpliSafe camera equipped with the SimpliSafe outdoor camera kit.
While it has been rumored since 2018, there is still not an outdoor SimpliSafe camera available, at the time of this writing. (May 2020)
SimpliSafe does offer an Outdoor SimpliSafe Camera Kit, which can be used with the Simplicam. However, even SimpliSafe doesn’t recommend the SimpliCam for outdoor use.
What is the SimpliSafe return policy?
If you’re not satisfied with your system, SimpliSafe has a 60-Day Money-Back Guarantee. They even cover the cost of return shipping.
To secure a return authorization, contact SimpliSafe at 1-888-783-8441.
How much does SimpliSafe Security cost?
Upfront equipment costs will vary depending on the equipment required. The SimpliSafe Essentials basic package retails for $229. There are packages and a la carte pricing so that systems can be customized for any home
Monitoring starts at $14.99 and is $24.90 for the Interactive plan. Video monitoring is included in the latter, but if you want to record video without the interactive plan, it is an additional $4.99 for a single camera, or $9.99 for 2-10 cameras.

Hands-On Reviews
Many of the products we review are items that we have been sent for evaluation or even chosen to purchase for our own use. Since the original SimpliSafe review, the SimpliSafe outdoor camera was introduced…which is a fantastic upgrade to the system.
We review hundreds of personal and home security products and companies and analyze thousands of customer reviews so that we can lay out both the good and the bad when we evaluate the best home security companies…or any other products or services.
When a hands-on review isn’t practical, we research items thoroughly online and may scrutinize hundreds of customer reviews to better assess the actual owner experience.
In many cases, we provide additional sections of important things to consider to help you determine what makes the most sense for your situation.
Quick Link TOC
We try to be as thorough as possible in reviewing products and companies.

Is SimpliSafe Security Easy to Install?
We put SimpliSafe to the test.
Our Hand’s On SimpliSafe Reviews Reveal the Truth…
When it comes to DIY Alarm systems, all the best wireless home security systems claim to be easy to install.
However, most prospective customers have some reservations based on past experience with other alarm systems.
They have gone to great lengths to streamline the process and make it simple for their customers to get the security they need to protect their homes and keep their families safe.
Each sensor comes in a clearly marked box-making it easy to identify. The company realizes that most customers have never installed a system, so they provide clear instructions and a data stick that will walk you through the process. Minimal settings are required.
After quickly reviewing the instructions, the average person can have everything up and working in under an hour.
With SimpliSafe Home Security, you have the option of how you wish to monitor the system. You can subscribe professional monitoring service or you can just use it as a local alarm. Either way…there are no contracts required and either option is available on a monthly basis.
So…let’s take a look at what you can expect when you place an order.
Our system arrived via UPS 5 days after the order was placed…and here is what I found.
What’s in the Box?
Unlike some of the other systems we have reviewed, the system arrived in a non-descript, standard shipping box.
There was no branded packaging that one might find with a premium product. No matter, I guess- premium packaging doesn’t protect your family…but, I was a bit underwhelmed.
Unlike some of the competition, such as Frontpoint, there was no custom packaging with special inserts for each of the components. They were merely neatly arranged in a box with very minimal packing to prevent potential damage.
Nevertheless, everything arrived on time and undamaged.
Each of the components was clearly marked in individually branded packaging.
In addition to a variety of security and home automation components the box contained:
- List of Enclosed Equipment
- SimpliSafe User Manual
- Yard Sign (with NO stake)
- Window Stickers
- Extra Adhesive Pads for Components
Mounting instructions were clear and concise…and the Keychain Remote has a built-in Easy Setup Wizard which can be accessed through a USB port on a computer.
This will walk you through the process of setting up your system.
Setting Up the System
Each of the devices is clearly marked and packaged.
One unique feature of the SimpliSafe system is that the remote key chain also contains a flash drive with a step by step set up guide that can be plugged into the USB port on your computer. It will also enable you to easily set up pin codes and personalize system settings.
Once you have completed set up, plug the USB into the base unit, and it will sync up the settings.
If you don’t have access to a computer, the user manual will walk you through the programming.
While most of our top-rated DIY alarm companies will pre-program the system before sending it out, the SimpliSafe setup process has been streamlined and is pretty straight forward.
The sensors are most easily mounted using the enclosed padded 3M mounting adhesives, although mounting screws are provided with some devices.
Set Up Observations
Unlike many other systems, there is no desktop mounting bracket for the keypad. It is designed to be mounted to the wall with mounting adhesive, as well. Essentially, it is just a wireless keypad, so it does not require a power source.
The base unit requires a standard power source (and is also equipped with a backup battery) and is mounted separately from the keypad. It houses the central control panel and communicator, so it should be placed in an area where there is good reception and where alarm notifications can be heard.
It is not particularly loud, so we recommend the addition of their remote 105db Siren….which is VERY loud.
Walk Test and Activate
Once all the devices are mounted…one should “walk test” the system- to check that all the sensors are communicating properly. Open and shut doors and windows. There is a button that puts the motion into test mode. Thankfully, all our sensors worked perfectly straight out of the box.
The base unit will “announce” each device as it is tested. Unlike many home security systems, the SimpliSafe alarm system is not capable of announcing a specific location- such as “front door”….”living room motion”.
Once this is done, the system can be activated easily by following the online account setup process in the tutorial.
Managing the SimpliSafe Home Security System
Setting up the system was easy. Just plug in the flash drive into the USB port on your computer and it will take you to their online portal and prompt you through setting up your online account where you can personalize your system and manage your settings.
First, you will set up 1 or more user PINs. This is the 4 digit code you will be using to control the system at the keypad.
Personalizing Your System
You can further personalize your system in general settings by setting such things as entry delays and how different components will respond in certain modes and situations. For instance, you might set a motion detector to not be armed in the Home mode.
Setting Up SimpliSafe Monitoring
And finally, you can set up your account to be monitored 24/7 by SimpliSafe’s professional monitoring services, which are provided by C.O.P.S. monitoring.
Once you have completed this you can save your settings and plug the flash drive back into the SimpliSafe Base Unit. A voice prompt will tell you when the process is complete.
SimpliCam Setup…is the SimpliSafe Camera Easy to Install?
As their name implies, they make an installation for the average customer relatively simple and painless.
The SimpliSafe App
Of course, in order to monitor and manage your SimpliSafe camera, you’ll need to first download and activate the SimpliSafe App. SimpliSafe supports only Apple IOS or Android devices. So if you are a Blackberry or Microsoft phone user, you are out of luck.
The SimpliSafe App can be downloaded from the App Store for iPhone and iPad users. Android users can find the SimpliSafe App on the Play Store.
Activating the SimpliCam
The SimpliCam is wireless, but it does require power. It should be plugged in and positioned within the range of your wireless router. Once plugged in it will boot up and a white flashing light will indicate it is ready for setup.
You will then open the SimpliSafe App and select “Install Camera” in the camera menu heading. You will be required to name the camera and input your WiFi credentials.
Once this is done, select “Get your code” and the app will generate a QR code.
Hold your phone about a foot in front of the camera lens. The phone will “read” the info from the QR code and attempt to connect to your WiFi. Once this is completed, the phone announces that it has connected.
You will then be able to view and manage your SimpliSafe camera from your mobile device.
Positioning the SimpliCam Indoor Security Camera
The indoor SimpliSafe security camera can be positioned anywhere that you can access a 110V outlet. Up to 4 SimpliSafe cameras can be set up with the system.
Using the SimpliCam as an Outdoor Security Camera
While it is not actually rated for outdoor use, the SimpliCam can be used as an outdoor SimpliSafe security camera solution in a pinch. There is an outdoor SimpliSafe camera kit that provides a 25′ extended power supply and a weatherproof sleeve.
The best option for external use is the NEW Outdoor SimpliSafe Camera.

Reputation Monitoring Customer Service Equipment Price and Value |
Both SimpliSafe and Frontpoint offer wireless DIY home alarm systems and have a reputation for providing outstanding customer service. They both maintain A+ BBB ratings…but that is where the similarities end.
Frontpoint Equipment
Frontpoint has introduced a new line-up of equipment with enhanced encryption. Previous alarms were made predominantly by Interlogix (formerly GE). and Qolsys.
The Qolsys IQ is available as an upgraded panel with a 7″ Touchscreen user interface. Qolsys is fast becoming a household name and is now being offered by some of the top security companies such as Monitronics, Link Interactive, Frontpoint, Vector Security and many more…
These are quality, name-brand manufacturers who build equipment used by the majority of the best home security companies. In the event that you ever decide to change service providers, the equipment is compatible with the systems used by most of the top alarm companies.
Proprietary Equipment
On the other hand, SimpliSafe alarms use proprietary alarm equipment. One of the most common SimpliSafe complaints is that it looks somewhat dated compared with the sleek modern systems offered by Frontpoint.
No color touchscreen interfaces….no internal cameras…no networked camera display….no severe weather alerts…
Simplisafe offers just a separate wireless keypad to enter your code. In addition, this equipment is proprietary, so it is not compatible with any of the other top-rated security companies. If you switch- the components become expensive paperweights.
With SimpliSafe, the equipment is sold separately…so there is no contract required.
The trade-off to this is that you end up with higher upfront costs.
The equipment is not discounted. Frontpoint provides a complete basic system, including the popular Simon XT security pane,l for just $99.00. This package requires an industry-standard 3-year agreement. However, they also offer a 1-year option.
Monitoring – Frontpoint vs SimpliSafe
When it comes to monitoring, SimpliSafe offers a bare-bones cellular plan at just $14.99. However, if you want to be able to use your smartphone to control the system it runs $24.99.
SimpliSafe reviews detail a number of customer SimpliSafe complaints about the lack of advanced monitoring features.
Frontpoint monitoring starts at $34.95, but their premium equipment and monitoring packages give customers access to a full repertoire of the most sought-after premium monitoring features such as:
- Smash and Crash protection
- Severe Weather Alerts
- Color Touchscreen Displays
- Geo-Location Services
- Photo Capture Arm/Disarm
- Video Surveillance and Display
- Full Home Automation
However, if you are just looking for very basic security, with no frills-and are willing to absorb higher upfront costs…SimpliSafe is still a solid DIY security value.
If you are looking for the latest technology, more selection, and the best customer service…
see why Frontpoint Security may be the best security company for you.

SimpliSafe vs Vivint
SimpliSafe vs Vivint Home Security
This is a little bit like comparing apples and oranges.
However, most negative SimpliSafe reviews cite concerns with the quality of the equipment and the lack of home automation capabilities.
We thought we would address these SimpliSafe complaints by highlighting our #1 pick for best home automation…Vivint.
Of all the SimpliSafe competitors, Vivint offers perhaps the most state of the art home automation equipment powered by the highest rated mobile application.
Of course…all of this does come at a price. But, customers looking for premium home automation capabilities will no doubt find Vivint Home Security a far superior option.
Vivint Advantages
• Standard Vivint Sky Touchscreen Display Control Panel
• Free Professional Installation on most equipment • Top of the Line Monitoring Options • Nationwide Service Network
• Voice Control as well as 2 Way Voice Communication Available
• Outstanding Home Automation Capabilities
• Nationwide Relocation Program
• Award-Winning Vivint Home App- 4.5 Star Rating!
• 0% Interest Flexpay Equipment Financing
• Lifetime Equipment Warranty
While SimpliSafe Security requires that you purchase all equipment upfront, Vivint offers more financial flexibility with their Flexpay purchase option that allows one to finance the equipment with 0% interest.
It is important to note that SimpliSafe equipment is proprietary, so if you want better equipment or monitoring features, you will have to start from scratch when you switch.
So after reading the SimpliSafe Home Security Reviews, you may want to consider speaking to the folks at Vivint to see what it would run to get the security and home automation system of your dreams.

While both of these highly regarded companies provide quality DIY alarm products and services, Protect America has a longer track record in the DIY alarm system industry. Having virtually pioneered the DIY home security industry…Protect America has:
- A 22-year track record (more than 2x SimpliSafe),
- Protects about 500,000 homes and small businesses and
- Has been in the Top 15 largest home security companies for the past 5 years running.
Protect America alarms are also made by GE/Interlogix and are backed by a lifetime warranty.
SimpliSafe offers a 3-year warranty on its proprietary equipment.
No Up-Front Costs with Protect America
With SimpliSafe, you buy the equipment upfront and pay for monitoring separately. This results in significantly higher upfront costs.
This is one of the most common SimpliSafe complaints listed in online SimpliSafe reviews.
Protect America eliminates upfront costs!
This makes it affordable for anyone to get a comprehensive security and home automation system. Their pricing enables customers to get the protection and features that they want and need-without having to make concessions because of cost.

SimpliSafe vs ADT
Simplisafe vs. ADT – Is SimpliSafe as Good as ADT?
Both SimpliSafe and ADT offer professionally monitored security systems. However, they have very different approaches. In a nutshell, ADT is professionally installed and will most likely cost less upfront. SimpliSafe is DIY and has a lower monthly monitoring rate.
If you don’t mind installing it yourself and can afford higher upfront costs, SimpliSafe may be the way to go.
However, there are a number of compelling reasons why millions of customers have chosen ADT.
ADT has been in business for over 140 years and help protect over 6 million homes and businesses across the United States.
In contrast to SimpliSafe ADT owns and operates 6 UL Listed, 5 Diamond Certified monitoring stations staffed with the most highly trained professionals in the business. This enables them to route calls to another monitoring center in the event of a natural disaster.
SimpliSafe subcontracts their monitoring out to a 3rd party monitoring service- COPS Monitoring.
ADT Monitored Benefits
ADT Authorized Premier Provider – Protect Your Home has highly trained, experienced and background-checked technicians to professionally install the most reliable, state-of-the-art equipment.
Their technicians will ensure that everything works properly and that you are completely comfortable with the operation of the system -which is monitored by ADT – the most trusted name in the industry. Benefits include:
- FREE Security System -$850 Value*
- Professional Installation
- Superior Monitoring Redundancy- 6 Monitoring Centers
- Local Nationwide Service Network
- Superior Technology – Voice Control Available
- Broad Home Automation Compatibility

- $500 Theft Protection Guarantee (certain restrictions apply)
- 6 Month Service Guarantee (certain restrictions apply)
*$99 charge for parts & installation with monthly monitoring services. Termination Fee Applies. For New Customers Only. (See T&Cs Below)

SimpliSafe Competitors - Armorax
SimpliSafe Competitors
The following are some mini comparisons between SimpliSafe and some of the top competition.
SimpliSafe Security vs Armorax Security
2018 Armorax vs SimpliSafe Reviews Update
Our initial interest in Armorax has already decreased considerably for the reason that Armorax continues to demonstrate clues that it’s having difficulties. The BBB standing has recently slipped off dramatically from an A (at the time of the original SimpliSafe review)to a C+. The foregoing might be a sign of the fact that the organization hasn’t satisfied user complaints-even when they’re filed using the Better Business Bureau.
Throughout our secret shopping efforts, we have found that even the sales department does not pick up the telephone. Inbound telephone calls are usually handled utilizing a voice mail system that instructed us to contact 911 should this be an emergency…or to remain on the line for the sales representative. After several minutes on hold, we were inevitably handled by means of an answering service that will take a name along with a telephone number to get a return call.
This makes one wonder what happens if I have issues with my alarm system?
Frequent changes since our Armorax vs SimpliSafe Reviews
Additionally, Armorax has switched brands 3 times over the last calendar year.
They have converted from the innovative 2 Gig systems, briefly offered the Interlogix Simon XT, and are also now providing the lesser-known Resolution Helix control panel. They also have totally changed their monitoring rate plan 3 x in the past twelve months. When it comes to online Armorax reviews, you’ll find that basically, no two websites share the same pricing structure. They originally marketed no-contract programs along with plans together with Cost-free equipment and monitoring rates as little as $19.99/mo. (their original cost of $24.99/mo. for security and full home automation was an excellent value when our original assessments and side-by-side comparisons in our Simplisafe Review were completed …However, this pricing nor the equipment is no longer available)
Their current offer will set you back $99.00 up-front and additionally standard monitoring starts at $34.99. The Mobile APP is additional!
Lack of Transparency
In addition, the total absence of online transparency does nothing to promote confidence. At this time there’s a single-page website that features little or no details about the firm history, equipment, costs, monitoring provider and services, Mobile App, Installation guidelines and/or video tutorials …or nearly anything otherwise that a potential customer may want to know. Although the company showed good potential originally, we are no longer keen about them as a reliable option to SimpliSafe.
In our assessment, you will find superior alternatives – such as Frontpoint, Protect America or Link Interactive.
NOTE- Armorax is now an affiliate for Link Interactive-

SimpliSafe Competitors- Cameras
However, there are a number of excellent video options that one could add separately to the system such as Dropcam, Foscam, Canary, ISmart, or my personal favorite…the Zmodo Pivot. This would require a separate user interface to control and monitor the cameras-but, they are all easy to install and have apps for both IOS and Android phones so that you can monitor them on the fly from almost any mobile device.
The Zmodo Pivot is a viable alternative to the SimpliCam. It is a new addition to the video camera security market which offers high definition 1080P recording and has a motion-activated 360° field of vision(see my review). It offers tremendous value and would be a great addition to any DIY home security system. For a detailed, in-depth review, please visit our Zmodo Pivot Hands-On Review. Specs:
- 1080P HD
- 360° Rotation
- Night Vision
- Motion Detection- 360 Degrees
- 2 Way Audio
- Local storage of 16GB
- Environmental Sensors for Humidity and Temperature
2017 Update:
Simplisafe Camera – new for 2017!
Probably the most significant development for the equipment lineup for 2017 is the introduction of the SimpliSafe Camera. Now available for $99.00, it boasts:
- 720p HD Resolution
- 120° Field of Vision
- Night Vision
- Privacy Shutter
- Wi-Fi
The SimpliCam is a Beta release and does not currently have advanced features such as record on demand, motion detection, and 2-way audio. In addition, video storage requires an extra $4.99 monthly subscription.
Safeguarding Your SimpliSafe System from Hackers
Protecting you SimpliSafe System from Hackers
The proliferation of the IoT (Internet of Things) is a double-edged sword. It helps you manage and stay connected with almost any facet of your home, but these conveniences can also create additional vulnerabilities that can be exploited by potential intruders.
If you are considering adding smart home capabilities to your home, you want to make sure that you are taking the necessary steps to ensure that your home network is properly secured.
Research the Device
If you are adding a 3rd party device to your system, make sure that you do your due diligence and purchase the device from a recognized company that takes security seriously. A good company will have password protection, one or two-step authentication, and be committed to periodic over-the-air firmware and security updates.
Register the Device
Be sure to register your equipment, not only for warranty purposes but to ensure that you are receiving any firmware updates. It is important to stay current with the latest versions of the software. Often times they address any known vulnerabilities.
Pay Attention to Passwords
It is important to immediately change default passwords. Passwords should be comprised of a variety of letters, cases, numbers, and symbols that would be difficult to guess. Be sure to use unique passwords for every device so that if your password for 1 device is compromised, you are not enabling access to all your sensitive accounts. If keeping track of a growing number of secure and unique passwords is becoming cumbersome, you may want to check out LastPass.
Create a Secure Wi-Fi Network
It is essential that you take steps to protect your entire home network. Make sure that you have changed the name of the network and default password. Choose a network name that doesn’t automatically give away your location or personal details.
With some routers, you can set up a Wi-Fi network specifically for your smart home devices. This will allow you to segregate your “smart home” network and add an additional roadblock to prevent hackers from accessing the network from where you do your banking and store your sensitive information.
You might also want to consider setting up a Guest network for visitors’ smartphones and computers, where they can’t see or access your IoT devices.
Consider Professional Installation
If this sounds like more than you want to deal with. Keep in mind that many leading home security providers offer professional installation with built-in smart home integration. Technicians should be well versed in optimizing the security of your network be able to help you incorporate some more advanced security measures.
Reset to Factory Default Settings
Before you dispose of, sell, or give away any smart devices, make sure that you follow the manufacturer’s instructions to remove all of your data.

Switching to SimpliSafe
The right way to end a contract after reading SimpliSafe Reviews
OK…after reading this review…you’ve decided to switch from your current provider. Virtually all security organizations require a three to five-year monitoring written agreement when you signed up. It is just a somewhat typical concept with the alarm business. (One of the reason there are so few negative SimpliSafe reviews is that they have no contracts)
If you are switching to SimpliSafe, you will be basically starting from scratch…so it is very important to make sure that you terminate your existing contract properly…as you will have to buy all new equipment.
Evaluate terms and conditions regarding your existing security agreement
Many of the other trouble spots when it comes to the security deals will be:
Escalation clauses- A lot of companies retain the authority to increase monitoring charges following the initial year…even when the contract period is actually longer.
Auto-Renewal Conditions – Certain legal contracts routinely renew on a yearly, or possibly extended time frame after the initial term is finished unless the individual formally cancels the deal as well as satisfies the specified stipulations associated with contract termination.
Cancellation Terms – Routinely times, the deal will need to be ended in black and white, 30 or even Sixty days before the end of the actual written agreement. Make sure that you contact your previous providers’ support services and understand precisely what requirements really need to be met in order to cancel the binding agreement.
Be Sure to Follow Up with SimpliSafe competitors
When it comes time to complete your long term contract, just be sure you take all the appropriate actions and record each of the conversations. We recommend that you:
Call- and consequently document the phone call with time as well as contact information
Mail- Mail out a notice via certified postal service
E-Mail- that includes “read “receipt Make certain each of the methods are well documented and safeguard them in case there is a conflict.
Also- be sure to check your banking account to ensure there are not any automatic debits after the specified date.
Switching to SimpliSafe
As a result of your experience with SimpliSafe competitors, you are quite likely going to have a better idea of what your ideal supplier should really be like. If you are reading this…you have most likely evaluated a number of SimpliSafe reviews and have settled on them.
If you are still up in the air after reading this SimpliSafe review, you may want to take a look at some of our top-rated SimpliSafe competitors to see what company is best suited for you.

Will my pets trigger the SimpliSafe Alarm?
SimpliSafe motion detectors…
will ignore small pets under 40 pounds if they are appropriately positioned. Most issues reported in SimpliSafe Security Reviews result from improperly positioning the motion sensor.
If you have a larger pet…ask about sensors that could screen out pets up to 80 lbs.
You can even create a”pet alley” or install a glass break detector as an alternative.
Response to Covid-19
How Does the Coronavirus Pandemic Impact SimpliSafe Home Security Customers?
The battle against the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic wages on…and we have all had to make adjustments to stay safe in this new economy. As a DIY self-installed system, SimpliSafe does not have to face the challenges of how to handle in-home sales, service, or installation appointments.
They have, however, had to adjust the everyday way of doing business to maintain the sales service and monitoring standards to properly meet the needs of their employees, their customer base, and the demands of the security marketplace.
To ensure the safety of their employees they have shifted to remote operations of their sales and tech support staff. In turn, this ensures that they can provide a similar customer experience while maintaining operations and keeping their employees safe and healthy.
Moreover, the monitoring services that they provide are well equipped to meet the demands of this ongoing health emergency. These disaster-ready monitoring centers are prepared to provide 24/7 emergency response to customers regardless of the challenge. With 6 redundant monitoring stations, calls can be re-routed to another facility in the event of a local emergency or disaster.
Is SimpliSafe Customizable?
Looking to Customize a SimpliSafe Security System?
If you are looking for a customized home security system, SimpliSafe may not be your best option. The system is designed to be very simple to install…which means it is somewhat limited. The sensors are proprietary and the system has no Z-Wave capability. This means it is not compatible with most 3rd party home automation equipment.
The system is best suited for very basic new installations. There are no take-over units to repurpose existing sensors nor custom sensors for embedded contacts.
Before deciding on how to best customize your home alarm system, make sure that they can provide the equipment you require for a fully customized and cost-effective system. For a truly custom install and to get the most bang for your buck, make sure the system you choose has the versatility and can accommodate the multi-function components described below.
1 The best home security companies offer a full line of “take-over” devices that allow you to upgrade your current security equipment to the most advanced system available. If you are upgrading a system with a fair amount of existing equipment, this is an important consideration.
2 Top alarm companies offer multiple specialized sensor options for your doors and windows include recessed, plunger, and bypass – providing custom solutions for nearly any installation scenario.
3 It is optimal to be able to open and close your garage door with the same keyfob you use for your alarm system. You can also control it with a smartphone thanks to Z-wave products that interface with most garage door brands.
4 Protect your home from frozen and broken water pipes and furnace and air conditioning failure with this multi-purpose sensor. Check to see if multi-function sensors are available with your system.
5 Triple-duty detectors can activate your alarm system when it senses smoke and high and low temperatures.
If you are looking for a DIY alarm system with more flexibility, capability, and compatibility, check out our reviews on FrontpointFrontpoint Security Reviews and Link Interactive.
Can a SimpliSafe Camera help keep my kids safer?
Keeping Children Safe with a SimpliSafe Camera
SimpliCam
The indoor SimpliSafe camera has long been used to keep an eye on the kids from another room or even remotely from the office when one is away from the home. The two-way voice feature enables one to speak and hear what is going on, as well.
SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera
In the past year, SimpliSafe finally responded to the feedback owners had been voicing for years by rolling out the highly anticipate SimpliSafe outdoor camera. Simple to mount and battery-operated, it was a huge improvement over the previous solution – the SimpliSafe outdoor camera kit. The latter was nothing more than the SimpliCam with a longer power cord, mounting hardware, and a water-resistant cover.
Now parents can keep an eye on the kids playing outside and even hear and speak to them remotely. Imagine being able to monitor what is going on around the pool…or being able to make sure that they aren’t running out in the street while playing in the driveway.
More Tips on Keeping Kids Safer
But keeping kids safe is not just about using SimpliSafe Cameras.

Enhance Garage Security with the SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera
Using the SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera to Enhance Garage Security
The SimpliSafe outdoor camera can be an integral part of protecting your garage. Protecting the garage and its contents is an important part consideration for a truly comprehensive security and home automation system. And you no longer have to settle for a Simplicam with a SimpliSafe outdoor camera kit to do the trick.
But, garage security is much more than just installing a SimpliSafe camera…
Top 6 Tips to Enhance Garage Security with SimpliSafe Cameras and More
SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera – Keep an eye on who approaches your garage doors and monitor activity. SimpliSafe outdoor security cameras offer 1080P HD resolution with motion detection and night vision.
Overhead Door Monitors – Always know whether the largest entry is open or closed. Tilt sensors use an inclinometer to detect the angle of the garage door. They send a signal to the control panel whether the overhead garage door is in an open or closed position.
Garage Door Openers – Allow automation and remote management of the overhead doors. With a wireless connection to the main home security system control panel, the doors can be controlled and even automated from the panel or right through the alarms system App.
SimpliCam – the SimpliSafe Security Camera – Monitor activity within the garage when access is gained. In our household, we have shipments and grocery deliveries inside the garage. With an inside SimpliSafe camera, we can keep an eye on things remotely.
Exterior Door Contacts – Keep all vulnerable garage doors protected. Exterior and/or home entranceways should be protected.
Heat Detectors – Not affected by smoke and fumes…a heat detector senses rapid rises of temperature due to fire. This is especially important in homes with an attached garage.
So, if the budget allows…updating or installing a home security system that includes garage door security can be well worth the investment!

The outdoor kit for the SimpliCam includes:
- Mounting Bracket
- Weatherproof Sleeve
- 25′ Power cord

SimpliSafe App Benefits
SimpliSafe Reviews Detail 7 Things You Can Do
with the SimpliSafe App
SimpliSafe Security Reviews have improved as their security systems have come a long way over the past few years. They provide a central hub that empowers users to control virtually any connected device that is compatible with the system.
SimpliSafe App – Benefits
- Arm/Disarm System – The SimpliSafe App lets you arm and disarm your alarm from any mobile device.
- Lock/Unlock Doors – Soon- you don’t have to leave a spare key in a secret spot to let someone in. At some point, we expect that the SimpliSafe Home Security App will enable you to unlock compatible door locks.
- SimpliSafe Cameras – Both indoor and outdoor SimpliSafe Cameras allow you to record video or watch in real-time- right through the app. A SimpliSafe Security Camera lets you oversee your pets and observe the children as they arrive home from school.
- Real-Time Alerts – The SimpliSafe app allows you to set real-time alerts that will notify you via text or e-mail when the kids get home, there is an intrusion, fire or any event you wish to program into the system.
- Thermostat Control – The SimpliSafe app can even serve as a home energy management hub for Nest. It allows you to control the Nest thermostat and…
- Turn Lights On/OFF – Your SimpliSafe Security App can ensure that you never have to walk into a dark house.
- Control Appliances – With a home automation system, you can even start the coffee maker or an air conditioner from the office. You can come home to a warm cup of coffee and/or a cool house! Sadly, they fall short in this area.
SimpliSafe Reviews Soar with Promise of Simplisafe Outdoor Camera that can be Controlled with the SimpliSafe App

How does the SimpliSafe Security Control Panel Measure UP?
Things to consider when choosing a SimpliSafe Home Security alarm panel.
Top 5 things to look for in a Modern Alarm Panel
Many companies offer multiple options regarding the central control panel that will serve as the hub of your entire home security system. When considering their Alarm System, make sure you look into the following features.
- Encryption – Not all panels have adequate encryption to protect against modern-day hackers. Encrypted Sensors make it very difficult to hack. If you are upgrading a system, that could mean having to upgrade all your sensors. Some panels, like the 2GIG GC2e, are also backward compatible with prior generations. While the current generation of the SimpliSafe Panel has introduced new levels of encryption, it is not compatibles with previous generation sensors.
- Aesthetic and UI – Today’s panels should be sleeker and more modern, with capacitive touch screen controls. SimpliSafe control panels still use outdated buttons to control the system.
- 2-Way Voice – Industry-leading panels offer 2-way voice capability that allows direct communication with the CMS when an alarm is triggered. SimpliSafe does not offer 2-way voice.
- Z-Wave Plus – This is a new-and-improved protocol, allowing home-automation products to have more battery power, higher functionality, longer range, and many more benefits over the original Z-Wave protocol. SimpliSafe Security systems do not have Z-Wave compatibility. This greatly limits your choices for home automation. You must use their proprietary products such as the SimpliCam, SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Pro, and the SimpliSafe Smart lock.
- Alarm App – Make sure that the security and home automation platform seamlessly integrates the entire system and enables remote management, observation, and control, from your smartphone, computer, or tablet with an internet connection. You can check Apple App Store or Google Play for ratings. While the SimpliSafe App works well, it is not compatible with most other home automation products. And unless you want to try using the SimpliCam with the SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera kit…you can’t manage other outdoor cameras with your SimpliSafe App.
So…while the SimpliSafe Security System may be a viable and cost-effective security solution for some…it has many limitations.
Details on the SimpliSafe Doorbell Pro
SimpliSafe Doorbell
How does the SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Pro Stack up to the Competition?
It was a big year for SimpliSafe.
They redesigned and updated their existing equipment line-up and added a couple of new products to expand the home automation capabilities. In addition to the new SimpliSafe Door Lock, they have also introduced the SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Pro.
The SimpliSafe doorbell camera boasts:
- 162° Field of Vision
- 1080p HD
- 2-Way Audio Communication
- HDR Technology Night Vision
While it lacks some of the features necessary to be competitive as a stand-alone product (IFTT, Amazon Alexa, Google Assitant), it is a nice complement to their security system.
It has one of the smaller form factors available and offers a crisp 1080p resolution, a full feature set, and is easy to install.
SimpliSafe Doorbell Complaints
The SimpliSafe video doorbell does not have any battery-operated capability. Consequently, it does require that you tie into existing doorbell wiring, or have someone hard-wire the system in. The latter is not likely a DIY project for most people.
PIR motion sensitivity seems to be an issue for some…and can be problematic in especially hot areas. As evidenced in an online review from PCMag.
“doorbell camera sucks to put it nicely. on my third one. actually, the first one was the best except that it eventually died altogether. have it on high sensitivity and can stand two feet away from it and wave my hands and maybe after 15 seconds it turns on, maybe. but yet it can go off about thirty times a day with cars going by in the street over 30 feet away. forget about it on garbage day with trucks going by all day long. I have had things delivered and no recording of the delivery person. wife went for a walk, no record of her coming back in, still waiting for her to come home. I was told it is heat-activated instead of motion-activated. can’t wait to see what happens when it hits 110 out here. don’t waste your money. sometimes I have seen the ass of the delivery person as they walk away. needs major improvements and yes I have reset it. even bringing down the sensitivity get about the same thing, don’t see much difference. still get cars all day on low sensitivity. I shut off the notifications so I don’t have to scroll through pages of push.”
However, the reality of any product is that you can’t please everyone. There are inherent flaws and limitations in any product.
SimpliSafe Doorbell Video Camera Summary
The SimpliSafe doorbell video camera may not be the best solution as a stand-alone product, but it is a solid addition to their product line-up.
SimpliSafe Sensors - Creative Uses
SimpliSafe Reviews of Alternate Sensor Applications
Door or window sensors have a number of potential uses that can help you protect your home and family.
Many people aren’t aware of it, but these basic sensors can be set up so that they don’t set off the alarm, but they can still send an alert notification when the sensor is triggered. Then you can check things out on your SimpliSafe Cameras from your smartphone or on a computer at the office.
Door / Window sensors can be set up in a bunch of different ways that you may not have thought of:
Gun Safe – Want to go the extra mile to keep your guns out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have access to them? Above and beyond locking your gun cabinet, your SimpliSafe Alarm system will support up to 99 sensors. That leaves you plenty of room to add one to your gun cabinet. It can be set up so that it will only send an e-mail notification via SMS or e-mail to alert you when your cabinet is opened.
Liquor and Medicine Cabinets- Want to keep a better eye on your liquor and medicine cabinets? A sensor here will let you know when someone opens the cabinet. With some systems, you can even set up a medicine cabinet to alert you if it has not been opened by a certain time. This can come in handy as a reminder that it is time to take medications.
Hazardous Materials- Concerned about childproofing your home? Mount a sensor on any cabinet within a child’s reach that might contain harmful or toxic materials. It can be set to sound the chime feature on your security system, without actually setting off the alarm.
Tool Shed- As long as it is within the range of the hub of your SimpliSafe Home security system, a sensor can be placed on the door of your tool shed as well. While it might not be mentioned in other SimpliSafe Reviews, the basic sensors may not be weather-resistant enough for outdoor use. You may need to look into special outdoor sensors.
Mailbox- Wondering if the mail has been delivered? Security sensors can be placed on the mailbox to let you know.
Pool Gate -For families with little ones, having a pool can be cause for concern. Your Alarm system can alert you when anybody opens your pool gate. Check with customer service to find out what sensors are best suited to your type/style of gate.
For your peace of mind, you may want to install SimpliSafe Cameras to keep an eye on the pool. While they don’t yet offer a SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera, you can check into the SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera Kit or mount a standard indoor SimpliCam so that it has a view of the pool.
Keep in mind that outdoor applications may not be adequate for basic sensors. Mounting on some surfaces might be difficult and the elements can complicate things.
Also, the distance to the sensor from the main hub of the wireless security system may be too far for a good signal.
Additionally, the weather conditions in your region of the country may be too extreme for basic sensors. There are, however, special weatherproof sensors that may be available for your application. One of the disadvantages of SimpliSafe sensors is that they are proprietary-so that 3rd party outdoor security sensors aren’t an option.
Contact their customer service department for recommendations for the ideal solution for your situation.

SimpliSafe Sensor Compatibility
Are the old SimpliSafe sensors compatible with the new SimpliSafe 3 System?
Sadly, the old SimpliSafe sensors are not compatible with the new SimpliSafe 3 system…and vice versa.
The new generation incorporates superior encryption that will not allow the two technologies to communicate. So…if you own the SS2 or older product line, you will have to upgrade the ENTIRE system. Nor will you be able to purchase the smaller, more attractive sensors to use with your old system.
We applaud the fact that they have responded to one of the most common complaints found in SimpliSafe reviews regarding lack of encryption and vulnerability to hacking. However, it would seem that they would have offered existing customers a better way to transition to the new technology.
A common thread found in the recent online reviews is illustrated in the following excerpts from the SimpliSafe forum.
“Here’s the thing: Simplisafe knows those with old systems have a flaw. They have a responsibility to manage that flaw. Imagine if a sensor could start a fire. Wouldn’t they be responsible for replacing that sensor? On the macro side, they did address this by creating a new better system. But they are leaving those with the ‘original’ out in the cold with the defect. And it appears no one is being notified of the issue.
In short, it seems not just a customer-service issue here. They would appear to have a real, and legal responsibility to make sure those that bought a system for the security of their home to fix that issue. How many times do patches for a computer or phone come down? This is a flaw in something protecting the home.
They have a responsibility to those with the old ‘original’ system to provide a discounted upgrade path so they are not using the flawed/defective system. And they should phase out the old system. If enough owners of ‘original’ equipment knew that there was a security flaw in the system that could leave their home vulnerable, I’m sure there’d be an uproar.”
SimpliSafe Camera compatibility
On a more positive note, the SimpliCam is compatible with both systems.
No word yet on the release of a SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera, yet, or whether it, too, will be compatible with both systems. They do offer a SimpliSafe outdoor camera kit, which works with SimpliCam. Priced at $19.99, the kit comes with a waterproof, weather-resistant sleeve and a 25-foot-long power cable. It also works in pretty frigid and warm temperatures, from 14°F to 104°F.
However, they stress that the SimpliCam is NOT designed for outdoor use. If you are looking for a system that supports an outdoor camera to monitor just the front door, the SimpliSafe Doorbell Camera is a better solution.
If you are looking to monitor the driveway or the ground of your property, without having to use additional 3rd party apps, you will likely want to consider other top-ranked providers.
How often do I need to test my SimpliSafe alarm system?
Testing the SimpliSafe Camera and Alarm System
It is recommended that you test the SimpliSafe security system at least once a month.
Negative SimpliSafe Camera Reviews and SimpliSafe Complaints can be eliminated with frequent testing
While you may not find it in your research of Simplisafe Home Security reviews, it is not uncommon that some people may go months or even years without testing their system. Many issues can be easily uncovered and remedied during a weekly test. It is up to the owner to test the system periodically to ensure the SimpliSafe Camera and alarm system is operating correctly.
It is especially important to check the system if there is a recent change in the internet or phone system.
For information on how to test your system, reach out to SimpliSafe customer support.
Home Security System Design Recommendations
SimpliSafe Reviews – Designing your Security System
Perimeter Protection – When planning the design of a security system, the first priority is perimeter protection. The priority at this stage is to deter potential intruders with yard signs, window stickers, and visible SimpliSafe outdoor cameras. While the Simplisafe outdoor camera release date keeps getting pushed back, they have introduced a SimpliSafe outdoor camera kit, which works with the SimpliCam. (Frankly, if you are looking for more than the SimpliSafe Doorbell Pro Camera…and want outdoor cameras, you may want to consider another company.) In addition, doors should have solid locks and deadbolts (or the SimpliSafe Smart Lock) as well as sensors mounted on all doors and vulnerable windows.
Interior Protection – Your system should also include a second line of defense in case an intruder is able to get past the perimeter protection. Motion detectors can be strategically mounted to protect larger areas. You might also want to consider mounting extra keypads or panic buttons in an office or bedroom. SimpliCam, the indoor SimpliSafe Security camera can be set up to keep an eye on any part of the home.
Asset Protection- You can even place contacts on gun cabinets, liquor cabinets or office doors to protect valuable items. You may want to consider setting up certain sensors as “non-reporting. This means that, if they are set off, they will only send a signal you through your SimpliSafe App, but not set off the alarm. You can then observe what is going on with your SimpliSafe Camera.
Environmental Protection – Your system can also be set up to monitor environmental hazards such as fire, carbon monoxide, flooding or freezing. There are special sensors for each of these applications.
Home Automation- The SimpliSafe Doorbell Camera, Simplicam, the Indoor SimpliSafe Camera and the SimpliSafe Smart Lock can all be managed with your SimpliSafe App.
Do I need a landline for Simplisafe/Camera monitoring?
SimpliSafe Reviews – Landlines vs. Cellular
A SimpliSafe system does not utilize a landline for monitoring. So…if you happen to be in an area without cellular service, you are out of luck.
ADT has great landline service available for just $26.99/mo.
As a matter of fact, only cellular monitoring is available for SimpliSafe security systems. This means there are no phone or cable wires that can be cut to prevent the system from calling the monitoring company in an emergency.
The SimpliCam requires wi-fi to be monitored and controlled remotely through the SimpliSafe App. While some SimpliSafe Alarm reviews might complain about the additional expense of a cellular connection, these SimpliSafe complaints are minimal as the cellular only monitoring is competitively priced.
SimpliSafe Monthly Costs with the SimpliCam
However, if you want to be able to view or get notifications from your SimpliSafe Camera, you will need to get the Interactive service for 24.99.
SimpliSafe Arming Options
SimpliSafe Reviews – Arming Modes
OFF — When your SimpliSafe system is switched off, many of these alarms are still active. For instance, your SimpliSafe alarm system will still alert you when a doorway or window is open, and environmental and life security sensors (i.e. water or very low temperatures ) are still working to protect your home. Therefore when a fire breaks out or there are excess carbon monoxide emissions, your system will still alert the SimpliSafe central monitoring station.
Stay– You are able to arm only the perimeter protection in the doorways and doors by arming your system at the”home” mode. This will let you move about the home freely and have a certain degree of security.
Away– This will trigger any interior motion sensors in addition to the windows and doors.
Instant — You are able to remove the entry delay in your SimpliSafe Alarm system by arming it in instant mode.
Duress – You may establish a particular duress code which can notify the monitoring center that there’s a possible hostage situation. If a person were to force you to disarm the system, this code will activate an immediate emergency response.
Panic- A special signal is sent to COPS monitoring, the SimpliSafe monitoring company, that will alert them that there is an occupied panic situation.

Common SimpliSafe Complaints
Common SimpliSafe Complaints
What are the most common SimpliSafe complaints?
In past years, most negative online Simplisafe alarm reviews have to do with unreliable and outdated equipment, poor customer service and the lack of home automation. However, they have modernized and made a number of improvements in recent years. It is not uncommon to find a SimpliSafe review from customers that are frustrated by the lack of tech support and customer service after normal business hours.
The fact that they do not require a monitoring contract pretty much eliminates the most common complaints that SimpliSafe competitors experience- such as auto-renewal clauses and cancellation fees.
Consequently, there are not as many Simplisafe complaints registered with the BBB or negative online SimpliSafe reviews.
SimpliSafe Keypad out of Range
A common Simplisafe Customer complaint is that they are getting an error message that indicates that the SimpliSafe keypad is out of range. Because it must communicate wirelessly to the base unit, the keypad and the base unit must be placed in reasonably close proximity. While they typically recommend that the SimpliSafe Base Station is hidden.
This is not always possible- as the 2 units need a clear line of communication. This may leave the base station in a more vulnerable location. That is one of the reasons we recommend systems equipped with Crash and Smash protection.
SimpliSafe Packages
While much of the equipment in the old SimpliSafe packages was a bit dated, the equipment in the 3rd generation SimpliSafe packages has been significantly updated aesthetically and now uses much better encryption to keep communications secure.
SimpliSafe Monthly Cost
There are still those who complain about having to subscribe to the interactive monitoring to get full use of the SimpliSafe App to control items such as the SimpliSafe Camera, SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Pro or SimpliSafe Smart ock. We feel that the SimpliSafe monitoring cost is a good value at $24.99.
Do I need a permit to install a SimpliSafe Security System?
Is it essential to secure a burglar alarm permit to operate my system?
Strictly speaking, you do not need a permit whenever the system is not going to be professionally monitored.
Nonetheless, if you choose to have your system professionally monitored, that is a different story. In that case, local towns would require a permit.
In most cases, this will involve very simple registration with local law enforcement or sheriff’s dept along with some sort of moderate payment. The vast majority of municipalities will require a one-time payment to register an individual’s home security system.
Some areas also require a yearly renewal fee. In cities with higher false alarm rates, failing to register may end up in a refusal to respond to places that don’t have an alarm permit…although this is relatively unusual.
In addition, you might have to pay additional fees when police, fire or emergency medical support ends up being dispatched to a home without a permit present. That’s why it is crucial that monitored Simply Safe alarm customers call his / her local police department to learn what permits will be required.
How to avoid False Alarms...
Strategies to Prevent False Alarms with your SimpliSafe Security System.
As stated earlier, false alarms can put a strain on your community resources and might end up resulting in costly fees and penalties The majority of police and fire calls to residences with security systems are a result of false alarms. Consequently, most cities charge fees to alarm system owners once they exceed a certain amount of false alarms.
To avoid this happening to you, here are some ideas to protect yourself from a false alarm:
SimpliSafe Reviews suggest….Know your System
The SimpliSafe Keypad
.• Make sure that everybody knows the way to disarm the security alarm. Your security alarm will have a master passcode, along with a number of additional individual codes that can be programmed into the system. Try to make sure that everybody knows their code and learns how to disarm the security system.
• Be certain that everyone knows the password. If there is an alarm, the central monitoring station will contact your house first and ask for the security password. They will send the authorities if one doesn’t respond correctly.
• Ensure that every window and door is properly secured before setting the system. The alarm can easily be set off if a gust of wind blows open a door or window.
The SimpliSafe App
Make sure everyone knows how to arm and disarm the system with the SimpliSafe App. If the system is activated, authorized users will be alerted through the SimpliSafe App on their mobile device. They can also use the SimpliSafe App to check in remotely and view the…
SimpliCam and a SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera
(Using a SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera Kit to convert the SimpliCam to SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera)
You can check in to verify a potential threat right from your cellphone. Whether you have a standard indoor Simplicam or have converted one into a SimpliSafe outdoor camera, you can monitor as many as 10 cameras right from the SimpliSafe App.
Setup Tips
• Ensure that all are mounted properly. Motion sensors should be set up at a height of 6’ and in an area that is devoid of fans, heating units, fireplace, and air conditioning systems.
• Be aware of items that might possibly set off a motion sensor. Pets are not the only culprits. Air conditioners might cause fluttering curtains or plants. Even helium balloons can set off an alarm if they are carried around your home because of air currents. Make sure they are tied down clear of motions.
• Ideally, pets must really be limited to zones away from motion sensors. Any time that isn’t doable, get “pet-friendly” or “pet immune” sensors that are able to screen out smaller-sized pets below 40, 50 even 80 lbs. Motions can also be set up to generate pet alleys where pets can move about freely. Another option is to utilize glass break sensors as opposed to motions.
Avoid SimpliSafe Complaints due to sensors failing
You’ll want to replace batteries when needed. The majority of alarm systems have Li-Ion batteries which usually have at the very least a 2-year lifespan. Your SimpliSafe control panel or SimpliSafe App will usually alert you as soon as the batteries are becoming low.
Typically, they alert you once there are about thirty days of effective life. It is a good idea to keep surplus batteries on hand and switch them out right away.
Your system will also alert you should there be any other troubles with sensors. If you receive a system error notification, conduct a status check for the sensor. Get hold of SimpliSafe customer service if it looks like it’s not working.
Keep Your Contact Info Handy
Store user manuals/codes/passwords in a specific location where they can be checked if needed. Ultimately, the best way to avert false alarms is to utilize your SimpliSafe Alarm system on a consistent basis and make certain everyone understands how to operate the system.

Questions to consider before getting SimpliSafe Home Security
Things to ask your self prior to deciding on a SimpliSafe Home Security System?
There are a number of things we recommend that you consider prior to choosing an alarm system.
Because professional installation is not available, it is important that one is aware of the pros and cons of a DIY system. This will help you be comfortable with your decision and be assured of a positive experience.
While there are many SimpliSafe competitors that might point to a negative SimpliSafe review and insist that professional installation is necessary, there are very few SimpliSafe complaints when it comes to ease of installation. Nevertheless…it is wise to examine some of the pros and cons…
DIY or Professional Set up?
One of the initial issues to consider is whether you intend to put in the unit yourself or possibly spend money on expert installation. Historically, systems would have to be hardwired directly into the home. This certainly would involve drilling and even cutting holes in walls, fishing electrical wires, and complex mounting and extensive encoding.
But…times surely have changed.
In fact, the service providers which will professionally set up the systems are generally using wireless equipment.
Simply Safe technology has actually been drastically upgraded in recent times to make the equipment exceptionally simple to install and program. Do-it-yourself alarm companies have streamlined the installation process.
Many DIY companies pre-program the whole system before mailing it out so that all the end-user will have to do is position the devices and then call in to have the system initialized. SimpliSafe Reviews indicate that most homeowners found SimpliSafe alarm systems easy to install!
Pros and Cons of SimpliSafe DIY Wireless Alarm
Benefits of DIY
• Absolutely no Installation Expenses – Save hundreds
• More affordable Add-on Hardware Prices – Often almost half
• Basically no Waiting or Appointment time – No need to set time aside away from your job
• Will increase System Knowledge • Easy to transfer Primary advantages of Expert Install
• Decreased Effort
• More Expertise
Despite the fact that a professionally installed system would certainly be easier, the majority agreed that the systems supplied via the preferred DIY alarm companies were definitely simple to put in. They are uncomplicated and ended up saving these folks a significant sum of money over the professionally installed system.
Even installing a SimpliSafe Camera is a snap!
Professional install by SimpliSafe Competitors
In the event you select a professional set up with one of the SimpliSafe Competitors, make sure to determine how seasoned your installation technician is. Check to see if they have been background checked and have undergone drug testing.
Find out if the company has its own personnel or makes use of third party sub-contractors. Working with sub-contractors isn’t always bad (they may be more experienced than company employees). Nevertheless, make sure they are qualified before letting them into your home.

Regional Security Company versus National
When picking a security company to help safeguard your house and family members, we advise selecting a national home security company, such as SimpliSafe Home Security.
One of the reasons there are so few SimpliSafe complaints online is that, unlike some of the regional SimpliSafe competitors, the systems can easily be moved anywhere in the US if one needs to relocate the system. No one wants a contract with a cable company that will not service that region or a small local security provider that can’t provide service if you move.
There are many SimpliSafe Home Security Reviews that cite how easy it was to transfer the system and have it monitored at the new location. If you currently have SimpliSafe Home Security (especially if you have the new SimpliSafe camera), it would be greatly appreciated if you could leave your experiences in a SimpliSafe Review.
Are there many SimpliSafe Complaints about equipment ease of operation?
Their systems have advanced very little in the last few years. Most SimpliSafe competitors, you will get a sleek, easy to use touchscreen keypad. As many SimpliSafe reviews point out, SimpliSafe has elected to stay with their rather archaic push-button keypad. Many providers including Frontpoint Security, now offer streamlined touchscreen panels that are user-friendly and attractive.
SimpliSafe App
Currently, many companies have smartphone apps with home automation features that permit you to manage your property from any place in the world with computer access. Thankfully, on their $24.95 monitoring plan, they offer their own interactive app.
They have also recently introduced the SimpliSafe Camera which can be viewed on the app. Quite a few providers are introducing speech control functions from Google Home or Alexa. These can help you perform the most common tasks simply by providing the right voice instruction.
While you may find SimpliSafe reviews and SimpliSafe complaints about the archaic equipment and potential system vulnerabilities, you will rarely find a SimpliSafe review which complains that the system is tricky to operate. Most people looking for more modern equipment such as touchscreens and home automation….simply choose one of our other options in our best home security companies list.
What are some of the other benefits of purchasing a SimpliSafe system?
10 Benefits associated with owning SimpliSafe (or any of our Top Rated Home Security Systems)
Some individuals visualize a security system as just a burglar alarm system, when, in fact, the technological enhancements unveiled in recent times have generated the advancement of home security into a much more all-inclusive security, energy, and home management system. Most modern-day systems offer a massive leap in features over systems of a decade ago.
SimpliSafe Alarm Reviews weigh pros vs cons on most important feature
One of the greatest benefits most often cited in online SimpliSafe Reviews is the fact that the systems provide you with basic protection without any sort of contract required. Of course, this leads to SimpliSafe complaints about higher equipment costs- as the customer must purchase the equipment at full price. The pros and cons of signing agreements in exchange for equipment subside vary greatly from one SimpliSafe review to the next. Following is a partial listing of benefits that Simply Safe security alarms buyers will love.
Break-Ins
- Safeguard Against Break-ins. Statistics point out that you’ll be 3 x less likely to end up being broken into using a professionally monitored home security system.
Even the most basic home alarm systems could normally provide several tiers of protection. A yard sign and window stickers will discourage would-be thieves from targeting your home. Perimeter sensors at the doors as well as vulnerable windows to thwart anyone attempting to gain entry. And finally, installing motion sensors and glass break detectors will identify when access has been gained. Activating any of these devices will be able to trigger a local siren to and, if your system is monitored, notify the central station of a security breach.
Environmental and Medical Emergency Protection
- Keep an eye on CO Levels –
Carbon monoxide is a colorless as well as odorless gas generated by inefficient combustion. Toxins coming from running car engines, propane stoves, generators, improperly operated heating systems, combusting timber, as well as charcoal, can all be hazardous if undetected. It is common for one experiencing carbon monoxide poisoning to become nauseous, light-headed, disoriented and too confused to summons emergency assistance. Thankfully, a home security system with CO protection will call automatically.
- Provide protection From Freezing Pipes.
Are you living in an area where temps plummet below the freezing point in the wintertime? The low-temperature alarm can protect against the probability of water lines freezing in case the furnace were to stop working. The system is going to notify you if your temperature drops below forty degrees.
- Medical-related emergencies.
Medical alert pendants or watches let the aging seniors or perhaps those that have unique needs to be able to immediately summons assistance in case of an accident or medical-related emergency. Most of these wireless panic alert buttons will generally function within about 100’ of the base unit. If the system is equipped with 2-way voice communication one speaks directly with the professional monitoring station staff.
Most Sought After Home Security Features Found in SimpliSafe Reviews
SimpliSafe Cameras allow you to:
- Keep track of Child Care- A SimpliCam can certainly be set up to monitor child behavior and keep tabs on the children’s nursery remotely from any computer, tablet or mobile device. This is run by the same SimpliSafe App you employ to run your home security system.
- Observe Pets- Ever wonder what exactly Daisy does if you are away from the home? Your SimpliSafe camera lets you remotely monitor what happens when you’re away.
- Keep tabs on Firearm Cabinets and Susceptible Areas.
You are able to keep tabs on valuable items and extremely vulnerable locations on your SimpliSafe camera.
Financial Considerations
- Minimize Losses In Break-In
According to the FBI, in 2012 the typical loss in a domestic burglary ended up being over $2,200. Installing a home security system does not guarantee that a home won’t end up being broken into. However, it seems reasonable to assume that losses are going to be dramatically reduced when an alarm is blaring away and the trespasser recognize that the authorities have been notified. Insurance companies realize this and that is why they…
- Decrease Insurance coverage costs
Insurance carriers provide discounted rates on Homeowner Insurance when the house is protected by a monitored home security system. Rate reductions vary from business to business and the scope of the protection. Normal discounted rates run between 5-20% depending upon the type of security system and the level of services that are provided. Be certain that the insurer knows that the system is monitored. Also, let him/her know whether things such as fire, flood and freeze protection will be included in your security system. SimpliSafe supplies a certificate of installation detailing the types of services for which your system is monitored.
- Lots of people are astonished at just how cost-effective that the modern, wireless home security and automation system can be.
It used to be that even a standard alarm system would undoubtedly set you back 1000s of dollars. Now, many Simplisafe Competitors such as ADT, Frontpoint, and Link Interactive security subsidize the up-front equipment costs. This helps to make home security inexpensive for almost everyone!
SimpliSafe Security Reviews Indicate this is #1 Benefit
A Simplisafe system can provide PEACE of Mind. You can’t put a value on it…They sleep at night better knowing the loved ones are secured …and that they’ve got total control of the property whether or not are home or out and about. Looking for home automation capabilities AND Peace of Mind? To discover exactly how economical peace of mind might be..look into our Top Alarm Companies.
SimpliSafe Home Security Alarm Response Times
How does response time compare with SimpliSafe Competitors?
While almost all SimpliSafe competitors claim to maintain the best response time in the industry, it is important to put this in perspective. Your SimpliSafe security system will typically use a 30-60 second entrance delay for your primary entrances to give you a chance to disarm the system. Security systems can be used in “Instant” setting in the event that everybody is home. In this case, the siren goes off as soon as someone opens the door.
Monitoring center reaction times tend to be estimated from the time that a signal is received to the moment the dispatcher contacts the home to verify the signal. This time certainly should be within a minute.
There are few SimpliSafe Security reviews that would indicate otherwise. In the event no one picks up at the residence, they are they attempt to call anyone on the emergency call list …and then they dispatch the police. Every action has to be time-stamped as well as transcribed in the monitoring center.
SimpliSafe Complaints about response?
Although you might find an occasional customer that complains about response times, the majority of the top-rated security alarm providers actually do an excellent job.
You will generally have difficulties finding SimpliSafe complaints pertaining to response times. SimpliSafe recommends that your security system is tested weekly to ensure that the security system and communications are working right. Nationwide, the average reaction time by law enforcement is about 7 minutes or so. However, this tends to vary considerably depending on the location of your home, the type of the circumstance, whether there’s audio or maybe on-line video confirmation through the SimpliSafe Camera. Other factors involved are the demand for and availability of neighboring emergency services during the time of the call.
If you already have a system and can offer information on their real-life response times, don’t hesitate to share your experience in our customer SimpliSafe Reviews.
SimpliSafe Back Up System
SimpliSafe Reviews report what happens when the power goes out.
The SimpliSafe security system comes with a battery backup system that should provide power to the unit in case of an electric power outage. This is a typical 24-hour power supply, but this will vary somewhat depending on the keypad screen, individual configurations as well as the number of components.
If the system converts to backup electrical power, the system would certainly beep to alert you and require someone to key in the code. The system may also alert you through text message or e-mail if you have set up remote notifications.
While there are very few SimpliSafe complaints regarding the life of the backup battery, if you are an existing customer and have had experience in a power outage, please don’t hesitate to leave your experience in our review or comment section.

Protecting Your Home Network From Hackers
Protecting you SimpliSafe Camera and Smart Devices from Hackers
The IoT (Internet of Things) lets you control smart devices such as the Simplicam, SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Pro or the SimpliSafe Smart Lock. All of these devices can be controlled seamlessly through the SimpliSafe App.
However, it is important to remember that these conveniences can also create additional vulnerabilities that can be exploited by hackers.
If you are considering adding smart home capabilities to your home, you want to make sure that you are taking the necessary steps to ensure that your home network is properly secured.
Research the Device
If you are adding a 3rd party device to your security system, purchase the device from a reputable company that is committed to wireless security. Look for products that have password protection, one or two-step authentication and is capable of over the air firmware and security updates.
Register the Device
Be sure to register your products right away. This will activate the warranty as well as ensure that you are receiving any firmware updates. It is important to be able to update to the latest versions of the software. Not only does this give you access to the latest features, but, they will typically address any known vulnerabilities.
Pay Attention to Passwords
Don’t forget to change the default passwords. They should contain a variety of letters, cases, numbers, and symbols
Be sure to use unique passwords for every device so that if your password for 1 device is compromised, you are not enabling access to all your sensitive accounts. If keeping track of passwords gets to be problematic, you may want to check out LastPass.
Create a Secure Wi-Fi Network
Best security practices should extend to your entire home network. Double-check to be sure that you have changed the name of the network and default password. Select a network name that doesn’t give away your address or personal details.
If your router is capable, set up a Wi-Fi network specifically for your smart home devices. This will allow you to keep your “smart home” network separate and make it more difficult for hackers to gain access to your banking and other sensitive information.
You might also want to consider setting up a Guest network for visitors’ smartphones and computers, where they can’t see or access your IoT devices.
Consider Professional Installation
If this is not your cup of tea, keep in mind that many leading home security providers offer professional installation with built-in smart home integration. Make sure to ask if their technicians are well versed in optimizing the security of your network and are capable of helping you incorporate some more advanced security measures.
Reset to Factory Default Settings
Before you dispose of, sell, or give away any smart devices, make sure that you follow the manufacturer’s instructions to remove all of your data.

All the simplisafe outdoor wireless camera reviews parrot the Simplisafe advertising. Take it from someone who has had 2 of them they only sporadically pick up vehicles coming up my driveway, Just not reliable. I wouldn’t recomment it.
Really like the SimpliSafe system. However there is a real need for an outdoor camera
Diann,
Thanks for commenting. Feel free to add a rating in the Simplisafe Reviews section. Readers…Do you feel the Simplicam outdoor kit is adequate, or would you prefer to purchase a more robust Simplisafe outdoor camera?
There are items on this page that are factually inaccurate, as the information is from early 2018 or earlier and should definitely not be titled “2019 SimpliSafe Reviews Update”.
Facts matter after all:
– Equipment was updated to Generation 3, which encrypts communication to/from the base station
– Active plan no longer exists
– Gen 3 equipment is OTA updatable
Thank you for bringing these items to our attention. The SimpliSafe Reviews post has been updated to include thes items.
I have purchased and installed Simplisafe system in the past couple of months. It was simple to install and support has been good. Thus, far I am pleased with the system.

In the under a year I have owned it, I have had several issues, and have had several interactions with their customer service. The customer service was pretty mediocre/bad…LONG wait times to get a person, and poor/incorrect information given when I did talk with someone.
Plus, everything about them pushes you towards their more expensive monitoring plan…their smartphone app is next to useless without it.
Thank you for sharing your experience with SimpliSafe, Larry. If you wish to provide a rating which will be factored in to our average customer rating score, you can rate SimpliSafe Security (or the new SimpliSafe Camera) in our SimpliSafe Reviews section.
SimpliSafe is only as good as human memory. Most homes have several inhabitants all of whom must think and remember to activate the system when they happen to be the last person leaving the home. This provides a system that is wrought with error… human error. What’s worse is that this situation is totally preventable. If SimpliSafe would simpli (<–sic) integrate with IFTTT.com system activation could easily be automated and human error totally avoided. Why is it SimpliSafe is counter to this automation which could be accomplished with very little coordination?
Thanks for the input.
Yes, it does seem that SimpliSafe has chosen to stick to the more basic technology. In some respects, it is hard to argue with their success….and staying true to their roots. Thus the name -Simply Safe is certainly apt. However, there is also a case to be made for keeping up with the times. Sustainability in the tech market is also about staying relevant.
For the more technologically inclined that are looking for a great value…you might check out Protect America. It is our #1 pick and offers very low up front costs.
What an odd and perhaps silly statement. There is NO automation that will solve all problems. I don’t know what IFTTT is, but imagine it is tied to “where’s your cell phone”. And you think that would lead to “human error totally avoided”? Wake up. Errors happen. Technology errors happen all the time.
