Livewatch Reviews – Major Changes in LiveWatch Security
Is LiveWatch still one of the top DIY Alarm Companies worth watching in 2018? Our Livewatch Reviews reveal the latest updates.
LiveWatch Security
Livewatch has undergone quite a bit of change over the past few years…so, one needs to watch pretty carefully to keep up. Overall, online customer Livewatch Reviews are pretty positive, but the company evolution over the past few years has resulted in a certain amount of brand identity and customer confusion.
Previously independently owned and co-branded as SafeMart, they are now owned by Monitronics, which has recently re-branded as Moni.
Important Note for readers looking for Livewatch Reviews:
After acquiring Livewatch Security, Moni has rebranded as Brinks Home Security. You can find or leave Livewatch Reviews on legacy systems below…and find the latest information and comprehensive review at:
Brinks Home Security Reviews.
LiveWatch Security System Price Increases
If that hasn’t confused you, perhaps the pricing will. At one point, they were a clear cut value leader, offering cellular monitoring for just $19.99. They kept it pretty simple with 3 plans that ranged from $19.99 to $39.99.
However, since they changed hands…the monitoring portfolio has expanded to 4 tiers ranging from $29.99 to $49.99.
That represents a pretty significant cost increase.
However, they have included additional equipment in their higher price plans. So, while they still represent a solid security value, Livewatch Security pricing is now much more in line with the competition.
Although they differentiate themselves by offering a one year contract with no early termination fee, this also gives them the option of increasing the rates with little notice. Will they continue to increase prices?
We are keeping a close eye on new developments…

Livewatch Reviews
Reputation and Credibility
Launched in 2002 by Chris Johnson, LiveWatch is a relative newcomer in the home security industry. However, they have distinguished themselves by offering world class customer service and a very customer centric approach that dispenses of the typical 3-5 year monitoring contracts in lieu of a shorter one year agreement- while still offering significant savings on up front equipment costs.. Based in St. Marys, Kansas -Livewatch protects over 200,000 homes and families and has an A+ BBB rating.
LiveWatch Monitoring
LiveWatch Home Security is unique in that it offers a substantial equipment subsidy with just a one year monitoring agreement-(the current discount changes periodically) Their UL Listed, Five Diamond Certified monitoring station provides 24/7 protection against intrusion, medical and personal safety, fire and environmental hazards.
LiveWatch offers a complete portfolio of monitoring options- the majority of which include fully integrated cellular communication modules. This eliminates the possibility of defeating the system by disabling cable or landlines. Their more advanced monitoring packages, Mobile Pro, Total Home, and Total Home + Video all incorporate Alarm.com‘s “Crash and Smash” technology which will notify the monitoring station even if the system is destroyed.
Livewatch Security App – ASAP’er
A truly unique feature of all the cellular monitoring packages is the LiveWatch Security App – ASAPer which notifies all members on the emergency contact list almost immediately by their choice of phone, SMS or e-mail via an application which enables group alerts and communications.
ASAPer- Revolutionary Notification Platform
Livewatch Home Security Monitoring Packages
Cellular– The basic plan provides 24/7 coverage including intrusion, medical and personal safety, fire and environmental hazards. The cost is $29.95/mo. and includes 100% cellular monitoring.

The system can be monitored and controlled remotely through Alarm.com’s interactive App and will also enable you to arm, disarm and control your system from a computer, tablet or mobile device. Mobile Pro is available for $34.95/mo.

Summary- LiveWatch still strong, but slips out of Top 5
LiveWatch is a top contender and was recognized as one of our Top 5 Best Home Security Companies of 2016 -receiving the Bronze Award.

LiveWatch Equipment
Control Panels
Livewatch offers 2 control panels- the GE Simon XT for their standard Plug and Protect basic plan, and a free upgrade to the Qolsys IQ on the Plug and Play IQ plans. Both are excellent systems. The Simon XT is a proven performer with a longer track record for reliable performance in the field, while the Qoslys IQ panel is a relative newcomer-with an impressive feature set.
GE Simon XT– This 40 Zone system (2 of which can be hardwired) is large enough to accommodate almost any configuration of sensors. The Simon XT can be programmed with up to 9 user codes to monitor and control access and comes with a 24 hour back up battery, voice annunciation for alarm instructions and system status updates and a chime feature to alert you when a door or window is opened.
- Simon XT Touchscreen Keypad- Up to 4 additional keypads can be added to the system enabling one to manage the system and hear audible alerts and alarms from the bedroom, office etc. This attractive full color 3.5” touchscreen panel enables you to arm and disarm the system as well as activate emergency panic buttons.
Qolsys IQ- While a relative newcomer on the security scene, the Qolsys IQ is finding it’s way into the homes (and hearts) of homeowners at an alarming rate. (sorry, couldn’t resist the pun) Considered by many to be the new Swiss army knife of home security control panels, this system has it all.
It starts out with a gorgeous 7” full color touchscreen user interface which responds to the users’ touch even with gloves on. (a welcome feature as temperatures begin to plummet during the winter months) The built in camera captures a picture to identify who is disarming the system so that you can better control system access.
The Qolsys control panel incorporates multiple cellular communication technologies as well as Wi-Fi, Z-Wave and even Bluetooth to accommodate virtually any communication platform-and the dual path technology allows for both cellular and wi-fi communication simultaneously to improve speed and provide redundancy.
The system allows for automatic over-the-air software updates via the wi-fi connection to update the system with the latest software- and also provides you with 4 day weather forecasts and severe weather alerts. It even has an SD slot so that you can upload photos and turn your system into a wall mounted photo album when your system is not in use.
There isn’t much that the folks at Qolsys haven’t thought of to include in this technological wonder…
Unique Quolsys Components:
IQ2- The secondary 7” tablet touchscreen communicates with the main panel via wi-fi and includes all the regular alarm.com app functionality as well as chime notifications, siren and emergency panic functions.
IQ Hardwire 16– enables you to incorporate up to 16 additional hardwired zones
IQ Translator– “translates” and integrates up to 8 wireless devices using other frequencies into the Quolsys system.
IQ Smart Socket- This Z-Wave appliance module controls 2 outlets and registers real time energy consumption with a high tech digital readout.
IQ Mini– Door/Window Contact – is less obtrusive and about half the size of a standard contact.
Image Sensor-This sensor combines a basic still camera with a motion detector. It can be set up to archive photos or automatically send a snapshot to your mobile device.
IQ Desk FOB – This mini FOB can be discretely hidden and will arm/disarm the system or activate a panic alarm.
Security Devices
Door and Window Contacts– These sensors consist of 2 components-a transmitter and a magnet. One mounted on the door or window while the other is mounted on the frame. The system is activated when the magnetic fields is broken.
They are mounted with the included industrial 2-sided adhesive tape…or can be secured with the mounting screws. They are equipped with long life lithium batteries, which have a typical lifespan of about 5-7 years.
Tilt Sensor– Used on garage doors, this sensor is activated when the overhead door is raised and exceeds a 45° angle.
Interior Protection
- Motion Detectors– These sensors utilize Passive Infra-Red technology and are typically mounted at 7” height and have approximately a 25’ range. They detect a heat signature, movement and mass over 40 lbs. – so they effectively screen out small pets. Custom mounting provisions can be made to create pet corridors for larger pets. Contact tech support for further information.
- Glass Break Detectors– utilize acoustic sensors to detect the frequency of breaking glass. This can provide an additional option for homes with larger pets and a more cost effective solution in rooms with multiple windows or sliding glass doors.
Life Safety Sensors
- Smoke Sensor– combines a photoelectric chamber, and a fixed and rate of rise heat detector into a single device. It is far more effective than the ionization smoke detectors found in hardware stores and includes lithium batteries which are good for 3-5 years. The self-supervisory feature will alert you through the system 30 days before the batteries need to be changed.
The sensor is effective in detecting both the smoke of a slow burning, smoldering fire…as well as a fast burning flash fire. The smoke detectors are active 24/7, whether the system is armed or not… and will alert the monitoring station in the event of a fire.
- Carbon Monoxide Detectors-sense the presence of CO- an odorless gas which can be deadly.
- Medical Pendant-is a water resistant (up to 1 meter) panic button which can be worn as a pendant or on the wrist. It will work within about 100’ of control panel.
- Flood/Freeze/Heat Sensor– This three way sensor detects flooding, freezing and rapid rises in temperature. It incorporate both low temperature and heat detectors and a water sensor to detect flooding.
Miscellaneous
- 4 Button Key FOB– allows you to arm and disarm the system at the touch of a button. A panic alert can be sent by depressing 2 buttons simultaneously.
Home Automation
- Z-Wave Appliance Modules– plug in directly to standard wall outlets allowing you to remotely manage attached lamps or appliances through the alarm panel or a smartphone, tablet or computer with the Alarm.com interactive application.
- Door Locks– Control either Yale or Kwikset Z-Wave door locks which come in a selection of Bronze, Nickel or Brass finishes.
- IQ Thermostat – This programmable Z-Wave thermostat interfaces with your security system and can be controlled on any computer, tablet or mobile device through the Alatm.com application. This energy management tool can help you better control energy costs.
Video Cameras
In addition to the built in camera on the Qolsys IQ control panel, and the Image Sensor, there are a variety of compatible cameras that can be incorporated into the Qolsys system, including:
- Wireless Indoor Fixed Lens IR Cameras
- Wireless Pan/Tilt IP Cameras
- Wireless Outdoor IP Cameras with IR

Livewatch vs Protect America
Livewatch Security vs Protect America
Protect America pioneered the DIY Alarm industry over 20 years ago. As a result, they have refined processes and procedures and continue to lead the DIY home security field by providing exceptional service to about 500,000 customers.
Their Copper Package, powered by the reliable GE Simon XT has earned a Consumer’s Best Buy award for 5 years running- enabling Protect America to earn the #15 spot (or higher) on the SDM Top 100 during each of those years.
While Livewatch Security offers more flexible billing options, Protect America ‘s $0 up front equipment costs addresses the #1 concernsfor most budget minded consumers- up front costs.
With their $0 up front cost business model…they make quality security and home automation affordable for almost everyone.
Where as fairly basic security packages with LiveWatch can run hundreds of dollars, Protect America includes up to $1400 in free alarm equipment in their Platinum Protection Plan…with no up front costs.
Just need a basic system? No problem…the Copper Plan is starts at $0 down and $19.99 a month.
And even though the equipment is free, with a 3 year agreement, Protect America stands behind the equipment and backs it with a Lifetime Warranty.
So, if you are looking to keep those up front costs down and want the peace of mind of a more experienced company that offers a best price guarantee and a lifetime warranty….Protect America provides the best value.

Livewatch Security vs Frontpoint Security
Livewatch vs Frontpoint
Both Livewatch Security and Frontpoint have A+ BBB ratings. But Frontpoint Security tops the list in the majority of top rated security companies, year in and year out, by providing exceptional value and best in class customer service. Their business model, company philosophy, ownership and pricing structure has remained consistent over the years and the company shows great stability.
On the other hand, Livewatch has a seemingly more fluid approach, with multiple distribution strategies, (direct and through Safemart) and has recently sold their customer base to Monitronics- now re-branded as Moni. These practices have led to a certain amount of customer confusion as to the direction of the company.
With the recent price increases and the change in company ownership, the future with Livewatch seems much more unstable. If you are looking to protect your home and family with a more trusted provider that has a proven track record of sustained excellence….check out our #1 pick – Frontpoint Security.

Livewatch vs ADT Monitored Security
Livewatch Security vs ADT Home Security
If you are at all concerned with being able to install an alarm system on your own, you may want to consider professional installation…which is not available with a LiveWatch Security System. Although Livewatch Reviews claim that installation was easy, there are still those who prefer to have a professional install their system.
if you are looking for a quality professionally installed home security system, an ADT monitored system should be at the top of the list. ADT is the most trusted brand in home security.
ADT helps protect more than 6 million homes and families in the US and Canada.
While LiveWatch has been in the home security business 14+ years…ADT has been in business for more than 140 years.

Livewatch Security vs Armorax Security
Livewatch Security vs Armorax Security
2018 Update of Armorax vs Livewatch Reviews
Our initial interest with regard to Armorax has recently fallen off substantially since the provider continues to exhibit signs that it’s struggling.
The BBB status has recently dropped off substantially from an A (during the time of the original Livewatch reviews)to a C+. The foregoing is indicative that Armorax home security has not responded to user complaints-even when they are filed using the Better Business Bureau.
In our secret shopping initiatives, we have realized that even the sales department is unable to pick up calls. Incoming calls are usually met with with a voice mail which in turn advises one to contact 911 should this be an emergency…or to remain on the line for the product sales representative. After 2 or 3 additional minutes on hold, one is inevitably transferred to an answering service who is going to demand a name and number to get return call.
This makes one wonder what takes place if I have a issues with my home security system?
Frequent pricing and equipment changes since original Livewatch reviews
Furthermore, Armorax seems to have changed suppliers 3 x in the last twelve months. They have converted from the state of the art 2 Gig systems, briefly advertised the Interlogix Simon XT, and are now supplying the lesser known Resolution Helix panel.
They also have dramatically changed their monitoring fee plan three times during the past twelve months. When it comes to online Armorax reviews, you will find that no two web sites reflect the same costs. They formerly offered no contract programs and programs with Free equipment and monitoring rates as little as $19.99/mo. (their original fee of $24.99/mo. for security and full home automation was initially a superb value, when our initial Armorax vs Livewatc reviews had been performed …but, is no longer presented)
Their most current offer costs you $99.00 up-front and basic monitoring starts at $34.99. And that does not include the Mobile APP-which is an additional charge!
Product and Service Transparency
Moreover, the total deficiency of online transparency does little to encourage confidence. Currently there’s a one page site that offers little if any information about the firm background, equipment, costs, monitoring provider and services, Mobile App, Installation instructions and / or video tutorials …or almost anything else which a prospective client might want to find out.
While Armorax showed terrific potential as a formidable alternative, changes introduced since the earlier Live Watch comparison review have done little to improve their standing as a strong option. We would recommend Frontpoint or Protect America instead.
Armorax Pricing
Unlike Livewatch’s dizzying array of monitoring options, Armorax pricing is simple and straight-forward.
They start off by offering a premium system…for free.
The Armorax “basic” system is the GC2 by 2Gig Technologies. There are NO Shipping and No Activation fees. It is FREE with a 36 month monitoring agreement!
And this system is not some base model that they will try to up-sell you on. The 2Gig GC2 is technological tour de force. With attractive aesthetics, it will be a proud addition to any wall, or can be set up with a desk mount.
The Armorax Blackbox base system includes;
- 2 Gig Technologies GC2 Control Panel
- 2 Door Contacts
- 1 Motion Detector
- Window Stickers and Yard Sign
The 2Gig Control panel incorporate Cellular, Wifi and Z-Wave technologies for home automation. All included, right out of the box-so there are no expensive add ons required.
Armorax add ons are competitive with our other top rated DIY alarm companies…and everything comes with a full 3 year warranty!
LiveWatch Pricing
LiveWatch offers a much more basic, non-touchscreen Simon XT on their basic plan. It requires $99.00 up front and $19.99 shipping.
If you step up to the more comprehensive monitoring plans, LiveWatch will upgrade the system for no charge.
LiveWatch seems to switch gears often…but, right now they are offering the Qolsys IQ2.
In comparison with the Armorax Blackbox Security System, the basic LiveWatch equipment looks somewhat archaic.
Despite this fact, the standard up front costs are significantly higher, with a basic LiveWatch system running $99.00 plus $19.99 shipping.
Livewatch Monitoring vs Armorax Monitoring
Livewatch monitoring plans range from basic cellular monitoring for $29.99..to full interactive plans at $49.99.
This is where Armorax really separates themselves from the pack. They really keep it simple by offering one, all eecompassing, fully interactive, cellular security and home automation monitoring package for just $24.95!
That is not a misprint…$24.95!
And that is not bare boned monitoring it includes:
- Alarm.com
- Interactive Service- Arm/Disarm/Notifications and Alerts
- Comprehensive Home Automation
- Video Surveillance Monitoring/Management
- Crash and Smash
- Geo Services….and more.
All for $24.95/mo.
And that is NOT an introductory price. That includes the Aromorax Rate Lock Guarrantee!
Armorax Recognized in Top DIY Alarm Company Award
In addition to outstanding, full featured monitoring for just $24.95, the Armorax Blackbox security systems feature the top rated 2Gig Technologies equipment.
This system is FREE with a 3 year agreement with a comprehensive interactive cellular monitoring that is just $24.95!
This top of the line GC2 system and low rates are just a couple of the many reasons that Armorax received our Silver Award as one of the TOP Home Security Companies of 2017.
Armorax systems come standard with Cellular monitoring -which means that there no phone lines that can be cut.
With Armorax– the basic system is free and includes cellular communication chip! There are no additional costs for the cellular monitoring.
Livewatch vs Armorax -Dollar for Dollar Comparison
Did I mention the Armorax cellular, interactive monitoring plan is $24.95?
Compare that with the basic Livewatch Cellular Planfor $29.99.
The Livewatch rate is $5.00 a month higher but you are stuck with :
- Significantly Higher Start Up Costs
- Antiquated Equipment
- NO Home Automation
- NO Crash and Smash
- NO Geo Location Service
- NO Severe Weather Alerts
- NO Full Color Touchscreen Display
To get the same level of monitoring features you have to pay twice as much with Livewatch!
Livewatch vs Armorax – Summary
While Livewatch does offer more billing flexibility, they can’t compete with the Armorax monitoring rates. Livewatch which start out at $5.00 a month more than the $25 Armorax plan.
Armorax customers will:
- Save over a hundred dollars up front
- Get Superior Equipment by a Top Name Brand Manufacturer
- Get Full Home Automation Capability through Alarm.com
- Enjoy Comprehensive Interactive Features- Crash and Smash, Geo Services, Power Outage Notofication and more…
All for $5.00 a month LESS then the least expensive Livewatch Monitoring Plan.
Comparable plans are 50% LESS with Armorax!
Yes…you do have to authorize a 36 month agreement…but that rate is guaranteed as long as you stay with Armorax. What happens when Livewatch decides they want to increase rates, again?
Armorax delivers state of the art, DIY security and home automation products with the lowest available cellular monitoring that includes Alarm.com services. It is truly an unbeatable value.

What's new for LiveWatch?
Whats new for LiveWatch in 2016?
LiveWatch Ownership
Livewatch was acquired by the 2nd largest home security company in the US, Monitronics about a year ago. The transition was virtually seamless, as the Livewatch infrastructure and management team stayed largely in place. Livewatch continues to operate as stand alone subsidiary, however, this move adds financial strength and stability as well as additional mindshare and long term vision.
This move likely influenced some attractive enhancements to the Livewatch program.
New LiveWatch Monitoring Package Enhancements
